In mediterranean regions drought is the major factor limiting spring barley and durum wheat grain yields. This study aimed to compare spring barley and durum wheat root and shoot responses to drought and quantify relationships between root traits and water uptake under terminal *** spring barley（Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Rum） and two durum wheat mediterranean cultivars（Triticum turgidum L. var durum cvs Hourani and Karim） were examined in soil‐column experiments under well watered and drought conditions. Root system architecture traits, water uptake, and plant growth were measured. Barley aerial biomass and grain yields were higher than for durum wheat cultivars in well watered conditions. Drought decreased grain yield more for barley（47%） than durum wheat（30%, Hourani）. Root‐to‐shoot dry matter ratio increased for durum wheat under drought but not for barley, and root weight increased for wheat in response todrought but decreased for barley. The critical root length density（RLD） and root volume density（RVD） for 90% available water capture for wheat were similar to（cv. Hourani） or lower than（cv. Karim） for barley depending on wheat cultivar. For both species, RVD accounted for a slightly higher proportion of phenotypic variation in water uptake under drought than RLD.

Gadolinia-doped ceria ceramic pastes were formulated with different solid loadings and extruded using lab-scale *** force to maintain a constant ram speed of 10 mm/min was *** radial shrinkage after drying was proportional to the solid loading and this allowed the determination of the maximum solid loading by an extrapolation *** order to obtain the apparent viscosity of the pastes,a novel approach based on the analysis of the slope of the extrusion pressure plot versus distance covered by the ram,was formulated for the direct determination of the shear stress upon *** agreement of the determined maximum solid loading with values calculated by two existing models confirmed that the proposed approach was an alternative and reliable method to identify the upper limit of the solid loading range for the formulation of extrudable ceramic pastes.

The coordination polymer, （Nd（H2O）5）2（2,6-AQDS）3.2H2O where 2,6-AQDS = 2,6- anthraquinonedisulfonate, has been synthesised via a hydrothermal route. Structurally, it consists of layers of monomeric Nd polyhedra which are linked by 2,6-AQDS anions forming a polymeric, three-dimensional network. Each Nd atom is nine coordinate, bonding to five water molecules and to four oxygen atoms from four 2,6-AODS anions which in turn pillar the layers by bridging two Nd atoms in one layer, and coordinating to a single Nd in the other.

Pitting and stress corrosion cracking(SCC) studies on the 316 N stainless steel(SS) weldments in aswelded(AW) and thermally aged(solution annealing(SA), 550C/4 h and 750C/1 h) conditions were carried out in acidic and acidic chloride media. Pitting corrosion and SCC resistance was the highest for SA weldment, which was attributed to homogenization of microstructural and microchemical heterogeneities during solution annealing. SA specimen showed the most stable passive film as compared to AW weldment because of higher amount of delta-ferrite in AW weld metal, which resulted in an increased heterogeneity and inferior SCC resistance in AW. Stability of passive film was found to be adversely affected due to heat treatments(at 550C/4 h and 750C/1 h) because of the precipitation of carbide and sigma phases.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is an aggressive cancer with high recurrence rates following surgical *** adjuvant chemotherapy improves survival,a significant proportion of patients are unable to initiate or complete all intended therapy following pancreatectomy due to postoperative complications or poor performance *** administration of chemotherapy prior to surgical resection is an alternative strategy that ensures its early and near universal delivery as well as improves margin-negative resection rates and potentially improves long-term survival *** therapy is increasingly being recommended to patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma,however,patient-centered research on its use is *** this review,we highlight opportunities to focus research efforts in the domains of patient preferences,patient-reported outcomes,patient experience,and *** research in these areas may identify relevant barriers and facilitators to the use of neoadjuvant therapy thereby increasing its utilization,improve shareddecision making for patients and providers,and optimize the experience of those undergoing neoadjuvant therapy.

BACKGROUND malnourishment and sarcopenia are well documented phenomena in oesophageal *** undergoing neo-adjuvant chemotherapy prior to oesophagectomy have complex nutritional *** To examine the effect of regular nutritional support via feeding jejunostomy on overall body composition in patients undergoing neo-adjuvant chemotherapy prior to oesophagectomy for oesophageal *** Retrospective data were collected for 15 patients before and after neo-adjuvant *** patients had feeding jejunostomies inserted at staging laparoscopy prior to neo-adjuvant chemotherapy and underwent regular jejunostomy *** in body composition were determined by analysis of computed tomography *** Patient age was 61.3±12.8 years,and 73%of patients were *** time between start of chemotherapy and surgery was 107±21.6 *** was no change in weight(74.5±14.1 kg to 74.8±13.1 kg)and body mass index(26.0±3.8 kg/m^2 to 26.1±3.4 kg/m^2).Body composition analysis revealed a statistically significant decrease in lumbar skeletal muscle index despite regular feeding(45.8±8.0 cm^2/m^2 to 43.5±7.3 cm^2/m^2;P=0.045).The proportion of sarcopenic patients increased(33.3% to 60%).Six patients(40%)experienced dose-limiting toxicity during *** Regular jejunostomy feeding during neo-adjuvant chemotherapy can maintain weight and adipose *** alone is not sufficient to maintain muscle *** insight into the underlying processes causing reduced muscle mass in cancer patients may help to provide targeted interventions.
