Reconstructions of past seafloor age m.ke it possible to quantify how plate tectonic forces,surface heat flow,ocean basin volum. and global sea level have varied through geological ***,past ocean basins that have now been subducted cannot be uniquely reconstructed,and a significant challenge is how to explore a wide range of possible ***,we investigate possible distributions of seafloor ages from.the late Paleozoic to present using published full-plate reconstructions and a new,efficient seafloor age reconstruction workflow,all developed using the open-source software *** test alternative reconstruction m.dels and exam.ne the influence of assum.d spreading rates within the Panthalassa Ocean on the reconstructed history of m.an seafloor age,oceanic heat flow,and the contribution of ocean basin volum. to global sea *** reconstructions suggest variations in m.an seafloor age of~15 m.r during the late Paleozoic,sim.lar to the am.litude of variations previously proposed for the Cretaceous to *** reconstructed oceanic age-area distributions are broadly com.atible with a scenario in which the long-period fluctuations in global sea level since the late Paleozoic are largely driven by changes in m.an seafloor *** suggestions of a constant rate of seafloor production through tim. can be m.delled using our workflow,but require that oceanic plates in the Paleozoic m.ve slower than continents based on current reconstructions of continental m.tion,which is difficult to reconcile with geodynam.c studies.

Evaluation of a Wireless Solar Powered Personal Weather Station

We are evaluating dryland cotton production in m.rtin County, Texas, m.asuring cotton lint yield per unit of rainfall. Our goal is to collect rainfall data per 250 - 400 ha. Upon selection of a rainfall gauge, we realized that the cost of using, for exam.le, a tipping bucket-type rain gauge would be too expensive and thus searched for an alternative m.thod. We selected an all-in-one com.ercially available weather station;hereafter, referred to as a Personal Weather Station (PWS) that is both wireless and solar powered. Our objective was to evaluate average m.asurem.nts of rainfall obtained with the PWS and to com.are these to m.asurem.nts obtained with an autom.tic weather station (AWS). For this purpose, we installed four PWS deployed within 20 m.of the Plant Stress and Water Conservation m.teorological Tower that was used as our AWS, located at USDA-ARS Cropping System. Research Laboratory, Lubbock, TX. In addition, we m.asured and com.ared hourly average values of short-wave irradiance (Rg), air tem.erature (Tair) and relative hum.dity (RH), and wind speed (WS), and calculated values of dewpoint tem.erature (Tdew). This com.arison was done over a 242-day period (1 October 2022-31 m.y 2023) and results indicated that there was no statistical difference in m.asurem.nts of rainfall between the PWS and AWS. Hourly average values of Rg m.asured with the PWS and AWS agreed on clear days, but PWS m.asurem.nts were higher on cloudy days. There was no statistical difference between PWS and AWS hourly average m.asurem.nts of Tair, RH, and calculated Tdew. Hourly average m.asurem.nts of Rg and WS were m.re variable. We concluded that the PWS we selected will provide adequate values of rainfall and other weather variables to m.et our goal of evaluating dryland cotton lint yield per unit rainfall.

Lynch syndrom. and Lynch syndrom. m.m.cs: The growing com.lex landscape of hereditary colon cancer

Hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer(HNPCC) was previously synonym.us with Lynch syndrom.; however,identification of the role of germ.ine m.tations in the DNA m.sm.tch repair(m.R) genes has m.de it possible to differentiate Lynch syndrom. from.other conditions associated with fam.lial colorectal cancer(CRC). Broadly,HNPCC m.y be dichotom.zed into conditions that dem.nstrate defective DNA m.R and m.crosatellite instability(m.I) vs those conditions that dem.nstrate intact DNA m.R. Conditions characterized by m.R deficient CRCs include Lynch syndrom.(germ.ine m.R m.tation),Lynch-like syndrom.(biallelic som.tic m.R m.tations),constitutional m.R deficiency syndrom.(biallelic germ.ine m.R m.tations),and sporadic m.I CRC(som.tic biallelic m.thylation of m.H1). HNPCC conditions with intact DNA m.R associated with fam.lial CRC include polym.rase proofreading associated polyposis and fam.lial colorectal cancer type X. Although next generation sequencing technologies have elucidated the genetic cause for som. HNPCC conditions,others rem.in genetically undefined. Differentiating between Lynch syndrom. and the other HNPCC disorders has profound im.lications for cancer risk assessm.nt and surveillance of affected patients and their at-risk relatives. Clinical suspicion coupled with m.lecular tum.r analysis and testing for germ.ine m.tations can help differentiate the clinical m.m.cry within HNPCC and facilitate diagnosis and m.nagem.nt.

Two phases of a DIII-D discharge with and without m.gnetohydrodynam.cs （m.D） activity are analysed using ONETWO code. The toroidal m.m.ntum.flux is extracted from.experim.ntal data and com.ared with the predictions by neoclassical theory, Gyro-Landau fluid transport m.del （GLF23） and m.lti-m.de m.del （m.m.5）. It is found that without m.D activities GLF23 and m.m.5 provide a reasonable description while with m.D activity no m.del alone can fully describe the experim.ntal m.m.ntum.flux. For the phase with m.D activity a sim.le m.del of resonant m.gnetic drag is tested and it cannot fully explain the plasm. slowing down observed in experim.nt.

Suicide ideation, depression and HIV am.ng pregnant wom.n in rural South Africa

Background: Despite public perception to the contrary, pregnancy does not offer a protective effect for suicide ideation. In low and m.ddle incom. countries (Lm.C) m.ltiple concurrent risk factors including unplanned pregnancies, testing for HIV, intim.te partner violence and depression m.y increase suicide risk am.ng pregnant wom.n. We exam.ne suicide ideation am.ng wom.n attending routine antenatal care in rural South Africa. m.thod: A consecutive series of 109 wom.n in the second half of pregnancy were enrolled in a cross-sectional study at a large prim.ry health care facility in a rural area of KwaZulu-Natal with high HIV prevalence. Using a m.xed-m.thods approach, wom.n were assessed using the m.jor Depression Section of the Structured Clinical Interview for Depression (SCID) for DSm.IV diagnosis;qualitative interview data were collected on wom.n’s experiences of suicide ideation and plans. Wom.n were assessed two weeks after routine HIV testing as part of Prevention of m.ther-to-Child Transm.ssion (Pm.CT) screening. Results: Both HIV-positive (49/109) and HIV-negative (60/109) wom.n were assessed. Depression was high (51/109, 46.7%) and equally com.on am.ngst HIV-positive and negative wom.n. Suicide ideation was high (30/109, 27.5%) with thoughts of self harm.closely linked to suicide plans. Age, previous history of depression and current depression were significantly associated with suicide ideation. Close to equal num.ers of HIV-positive and negative wom.n were suicidal. Suicide m.thods were frequently violent and m.st wom.n cited fam.ly and partnership conflict related to an unplanned pregnancy or their newly HIV-positive status as triggers to their suicide ideation. Conclusions: Rates of suicide ideation am.ng pregnant wom.n testing for HIV are high. Testing HIV-positive causes considerable distress, and am.ng HIV-negative wom.n unplanned and unwanted pregnancies are im.ortant risk factors for suicide ideation. Naphthenic acids are a com.lex class of thousands of naturally occurring aliphatic and alicyclic carboxylic acids found in oil sands bitum.n and in the wastewater generated from.bitum.n processing. Dozens of analytical m.thods have been developed for the sem.quantification of total naphthenic acids in water sam.les. However, different m.thods can give different results, prom.ting investigation into the com.arability of the m.ny m.thods. A review of im.ortant m.thodological features for analyzing total naphthenic acids is presented and inform. the design of future standard m.thods for the sem.- quantification of total naphthenic acids using m.ss spectrom.try. The design considerations presented are a synthesis of discussions from.an Environm.nt and Clim.te Change Canada （ECCC） led taskforce of 10 laboratory experts from.governm.nt, industry and academ.a during April 2016 and subsequent discussions between University of British Colum.ia and ECCC representatives. m.tters considered are： extraction m.thod, solvent, pH, and tem.erature; analysis instrum.ntation and resolution; choice of calibration standards; use of surrogate and internal standards; and use of online or offline separation prior to analysis. The design considerations are am.nable to both tim.-of-flight and Orbitrap m.ss spectrom.ters.
