PagMYB128 regulates secondary cell wall formation by direct activation of cell wall biosynthetic genes during wood formation in poplar

Volume is an important attribute used in many forest management *** from 83 fixed-area plots located in central New Brunswick,Canada,are used to examine how different measures of stand-level diameter and height influence volume prediction using a stand-level variant of honer's(1967)volume *** density was included in the models(Volume=f(Diameter,height,Density))choice of diameter measure was more important than choice of height *** density was not included(Volume=f(Diameter,height)),the opposite was *** models with density included,moment-based estimators of stand diameter and height performed better than all other *** models without density,largest tree estimators of stand diameter and height performed better than other *** overall best equation used quadratic mean diameter,Lorey's height,and density(root mean square error=5.26 m^3·ha^(-1);1.9%relative error).the best equation without density used mean diameter of the largest trees needed to calculate a stand density index of 400 and the mean height of the tallest 400 trees per ha(root mean square error=32.08 m^(3)·ha^(-1);11.8%relative error).the results of this study have some important implications for height subsampling and LiDAR-derived forest inventory analyses.

tracking and Sensor Coverage of Spatio-temporal Quantities Using a Swarm of Artificial Foraging Agents

Using a network of mobile sensors to track and map a dynamic spatio-temporal process in the environment is one of the current challenges in multi-agent systems. In this work, a distributed probabilistic multi-agent algorithm inspired by the bacte- rium foraging behavior is presented. the novelty of the algorithm lies in being capable of tracking and mapping a spa- tio-temporal quantity without the need of machine learning, estimation algorithms or future planning. this is unlike most current techniques that rely heavily on machine learning to estimate the distribution as well as the profile of spatio-temporal quantities. the experimental studies carried out in this work show that the algorithm works well by following the concentration gradient of a dynamic plume created under diffusive conditions. Furthermore, the algorithm is inherently capable of finding the source of a diffusive spatio-temporal quantity as well as performing environmental exploration. It is computationally tractable for simple agents, shown to adapt to its environment and can deal successfully with noise in sensor readings as well as in robot dynamics.

A universal vaccine is in high demand to address the uncertainties of antigenic drift and the reduced effectiveness of current influenza *** this study,a strategy called computationally optimized broadly reactive antigen(COBRA)was used to generate a consensus sequence of the hemagglutinin globular head portion(ha1)of influenza virus samples collected from 1918 to 2021 to trace evolutionary changes and incorporate them into the designed *** carrying different ha1regions were delivered into eukaryotic cells by Salmonella-mediated bactofection using a Semliki Forest virus RNA-dependent RNApolymerase(RdRp)-based eukaryotic expression system,*** protein expression was confirmed by Western blot and immunofluorescence *** immunized with the designed constructs produced a humoral response,with a significant increase in immunoglobulin G(IgG)levels,and a cell-mediated immune response,including a 1.5-fold increase in CD4^(+) and CD8^(+)t ***,constructs #1 and #5 increased the production of interferon-γ(IFN-γ)producing CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)t cells,skewing the response toward the t helper type 1 cell(th1)***,interleukin-4(IL-4)-producing t cells were upregulated *** efficacy was demonstrated,with up to 4-fold higher production of neutralizing antibodies and a hemagglutination inhibition titer>40 against the selected viral *** designed constructs conferred a broadly protective immune response,resulting in a notable reduction in viral titer and minimal inflammation in the lungs of mice challenged with the influenza A/PR8/34,A/Brisbane/59/2007,A/California/07/2009,KBPV VR-92,and NCCP 43021 *** discovery revolutionizes influenza vaccine design and delivery;Salmonella-mediated COBRA-ha1 is a highly effective in vivo antigen presentation *** approach can effectively combat seasonal h1N1 influenza strains and potential pandemic outbreaks.

When Students Become“Prisoners”:A Game theory Analysis of Internship by Beijing College Students

Purpose-the oversupply of college graduates and increasing competition in the Chinese urban labor market have forced college students to undertake internships much earlier and to a greater intensity in the hope of boosting their employment *** may be argued that the considerable time and energy thus spent on internships is deleterious to their university *** paper considers the factors that determine the intensity of an internship ***/Approach/Methods-Building on a Cobb-Douglas utility function,the paper constructs a Prisoners’Dilemma game to model the internship behavior of Chinese college students,and then examines the determinants of internship using data from a 2011 survey of approximately 10,000 Chinese college students from 47 higher education institutions in the Beijing metropolitan area and multivariate regression ***-Empirical results confirm three key hypotheses derived from our model:first,students’perceptions of higher differentials across available jobs in the labor market entice them to intern excessively;second,the improving quality of college teaching and the consequent benefit for knowledge acquisition mitigates the need for excessive internship;third,student preferences for fundamental knowledge acquisition also tilts the balance towards more study and less ***/Value-these findings suggest that in the context of a tight graduate labor market,improving the quality of college teaching provides a viable alternative to excessive internship by students.

Effect of Different Mulching Materials on Growth Parameters and Yield of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) Production in Minna, Nigeria

During the 2022 growing season (August to November) at the Federal University of technology, Minna School farm, Niger State, an experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of mulching on Okras growth, yield, and moisture content was examined across four distinct growth stages (initial, development, mid, and late) and at varying soil depths (0 - 30 cm and 30 - 60 cm). the study employed a randomised complete block design with four replications, encompassing control (t0), groundnut shells mulch (t1), black polythene mulch (t2), and white polythene mulch (t3) as treatments. the highest average Okra fresh pod yield, amounting to 23.4 t/ha, was achieved by implementing white plastic mulch, contrasting with the control treatment, which yielded the lowest at 22 t/ha. Notably, the control plots exhibited yield reductions of up to 32% compared to the plots employing white plastic mulching. the utilisation of mulch had a notable impact on the overall crop yield, with the superior quality evident in the treatment employing white plastic mulch (26 t/ha). the control treatment exhibited the lowest quality at 24.3 t/ha. Groundnut shell mulch influenced moisture conservation, but no significant variance was observed compared to the control plots. therefore, the study suggests that polythene mulch may be the most suitable type to enhance the quality of okra production by conserving soil moisture. Among the biodegradable and non-biodegradable mulches used in this study, white polythene mulch was the most effective.

Evaluation of a Wireless Solar Powered Personal Weather Station

We are evaluating dryland cotton production in Martin County, texas, measuring cotton lint yield per unit of rainfall. Our goal is to collect rainfall data per 250 - 400 ha. Upon selection of a rainfall gauge, we realized that the cost of using, for example, a tipping bucket-type rain gauge would be too expensive and thus searched for an alternative method. We selected an all-in-one commercially available weather station;hereafter, referred to as a Personal Weather Station (PWS) that is both wireless and solar powered. Our objective was to evaluate average measurements of rainfall obtained with the PWS and to compare these to measurements obtained with an automatic weather station (AWS). For this purpose, we installed four PWS deployed within 20 m of the Plant Stress and Water Conservation Meteorological tower that was used as our AWS, located at USDA-ARS Cropping Systems Research Laboratory, Lubbock, tX. In addition, we measured and compared hourly average values of short-wave irradiance (Rg), air temperature (tair) and relative humidity (Rh), and wind speed (WS), and calculated values of dewpoint temperature (tdew). this comparison was done over a 242-day period (1 October 2022-31 May 2023) and results indicated that there was no statistical difference in measurements of rainfall between the PWS and AWS. hourly average values of Rg measured with the PWS and AWS agreed on clear days, but PWS measurements were higher on cloudy days. there was no statistical difference between PWS and AWS hourly average measurements of tair, Rh, and calculated tdew. hourly average measurements of Rg and WS were more variable. We concluded that the PWS we selected will provide adequate values of rainfall and other weather variables to meet our goal of evaluating dryland cotton lint yield per unit rainfall.
