Evaluation of prediction models is crucial to achieving valid information on erosion processes and their management *** model efficiency in predicting ephemeral gully(EG)erosion was recently tested and compared with both EGEM and empirical *** models abilities to predict EG erosion were validated using measured estimates at the 6 eroding locations around Mubi area in Northeast Nigeria between April 2008 and October *** location consisted of 3 watersheds where data on soils,climate,slope,management practices,EG shapes and dimensions were *** on relevant soil properties were collected in the field and then analyzed in *** mass of soil loss(MSL)predicted by empirical,EGEM and WEPP models were compared with the measured using paired t-test,regression graphs(r^(2)-values),error analysis,and analysis of variance(ANOVA)in a completely ran-domized *** EG erosion losses varied significantly(P≤0.05)between sites and *** sig-nificant(P≤0.05)differences were observed between measured and the empirically predicted aggregate *** measured aggregate MSL strongly correlated with those predicted by empirical(r^(2)=0.67),than with EGEM(r^(2)=0.57),and WEPP(r^(2)=0.53)*** over and under-prediction instances against the measured erosion were noted with all the *** WEPP model was found to slightly over-predict MSL when compared to either the empirical or EGEM *** prediction quality of the models was generally *** works should focus more on local inputs such as climate,plants,management,and tillage data for use with WEPP.

the author's ambition for this publication was to make BEM accessible to the student as well as to the professional engineer. For this reason, his maintask was to organize and present the material in such a way so that the book becomes "user-friendly" and easy to comprehend, taking into account only the mathematics and mechanics to which students have been exposed during their undergraduate studies. this effort led to an innovative, in many aspects, way of presentingBEM, including the derivation of fundamental solutions, the integral representation of the solutions and the boundary integral equations for various governing differentialequations in a simple way minimizing a recourse to mathematics with which the student is not familiar. the indicial and tensorial notations, though they facilitate the author's work and allow to borrow ready to use expressions from the literature, have been avoided in the present book. Nevertheless, all the necessary preliminary mathematical concepts have been included in order to make the book complete and *** the book, every concept is followed by example problems, which have been worked out in detail and with all the necessary clarifications. Furthermore, each chapter of the book is enriched with problems-to-solve. these problems serve a threefold purpose.

Background： the effect of time of fecal sampling on the accuracy of acid-detergent insoluble ash （ADIA） and alkaline-peroxide lignin （APL） for the prediction of fecal output （FO） in cattle was evaluated. Eight ruminally cannulated cows （594 _＋ 35.5 kg） were allocated randomly to 4 bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon （L.） Pers.] hay diets markedly different in crude protein concentration （79-164 g/kg） with 2 replicates per diet for 3 periods. Cows were offered hay individually at 20 g DM/kg of body weight daily in equal feedings at 08：00 and 16：00 h for a 10-d adaptation period followed by 5-d of total fecal collection. Fecal grab samples also were taken each day during the fecal collection period at 06：00, 12：00, 18：00, and 24：00 h either directly from the rectum or from freshly voided feces. Samples were composited within cow and time across the 5 d total fecal collection period. Additionally, forage, ort, and fecal samples were analyzed for concentrations of APL and ADIA. Results： Fecal concentrations of ADIA and APL were not affected by sampling time （P 〉 0.22）, even though diet affected （P 〈 0.01） fecal ADIA and APL concentrations. there were no diet x sampling time interactions （P ≥ 0.60）. Estimates of FO and dry matter digestibility （DMD） from ADIA and APL were not affected （P 〉 0.16） by sampling time or the diet x sampling time interaction （P 〉 0.74）. Estimates of FO and DMD from markers from different sampling times or all different combinations of sampling time were not different （P 〉 0.72） from those of total collection among internal markers. Conclusion： Little variation in concentrations of ADIA and APL in daily fecal excretion across time increases flexibility in fecal grab sampling schedules for predicting FO and DMD.

Experimentalists, numerical modellers and reactor modellers need to work together, not only just for validation of numerical codes, but also to shed fundamental light on each other＇s problems and underlying assumptions. Several examples are given, Experimental gas axial dispersion data provide a means of choosing the most appropriate boundary condition （no slip, partial slip or full slip） for particles at the wall of fluidized beds. CFD simulations help to identify how close ＂two-dimensional＂ experimental columns are to being truly two-dimensional and to representing three-dimensional columns. CFD also can be used to provide a more rational means of establishing assumptions needed in the modelling of two-phase fluidized bed reactors, for example how to deal with cases where there is a change in molar flow （and hence volumetric flow） as a result of chemical reactions.

the welded metamorphic sole at the base of the Bay of Islands Ophiolite Complex(BOIC)in the Northern Appalachians of Newfoundland shows a typical inverted pressure-temperature(P-t)metamorphic gradient from Ht-MP granulite to Lt-LP greenschist *** incorporates mafic volcanic/plutonic protoliths mixed with pelagic,hemi-pelagic and coarser epiclastic sedimentary *** LA-ICP-MS U–Pb concordia ages,trace elements,and ti-in-zircon geothermometry for -250 zircon analyses from three metabasites of the upper Ht sole amphibolites with N-MORB-like protoliths are *** samples collected within meters of the ophiolite peridotite-sole contact of the Blow Me Down Mountain and North Arm Mountain massifs yielded the oldest comparable concordia ages of 487.7±2.6 Ma and 489.1±3.1 Ma,respectively,that are both within error of the igneous age of 488.3±1.5 Ma of the directly overlying BOIC ophiolite,which formed at a supra-subduction zone(SSZ)forearc spreading center.A third slightly younger age of 484.2±2.4 Ma was obtained for an upper Ht amphibolite sample with similar phase assemblages but collected30 m below the peridotite contact of the table Mountain *** crystals analyzed have similar size and morphologies,subparallel rare earth element(REE)variation patterns,and steep heavy REE-enrichments((Lu/Gd)_(cn)>20),significant positive Ce anomalies(dominantly>5)and slight positive to dominantly negative Eu anomalies(1.2–0.4).Zircon shows th/U mean values of 0.37–0.48 with little to no rim to core *** ti-in-zircon mean crystallization temperatures range from764–787℃.these neocrystallized zircon crystals appear to be derived from thin leucosomes within the three *** other samples also from the upper Ht sole show evidence of inherited detrital zircon with core dates spanning the Cambrian Notre Dame Arc through older Laurentian-like basement and rift age *** of the sole took place below a hot forearc asthenospheric wed

A cohort of family members with various chronic diseases including Crohn's disease, asthma, complex regional pain syndrome, hypothyroidism, type 1 diabetes mellitus, and lymphangiomatosis and/or evidence of infection by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis(MAP) are described in this series of case reports. MAP was cultured from the blood of three members affected by the first five diseases and there was accompanying elevated anti-MAP Ig G in two members. the patient affected by the sixth disease has a markedly elevated anti-MAP titer. the two patients affected by the first four diseases have been treated with a combination of anti-MAP antibiotics and ultraviolet blood irradiation therapy with resolution of the disease symptomatology and inability to culture MAP in post treatment blood samples. these case reports of patients with MAP infections provide supportive evidence of a pathogenic role of MAP in humans.
