We consider models for the observed ro-vibrational absorption lines of acetylene toward NGC 7538 IRS9. The data are fit with multiple screens, each having separate column densities, rotational and vibrational excitation temperatures, and filling factors. The best fit was determined using a chi-squared minimization scheme. We find that only one screen is necessary—multiple screens gave rise to either making one of the screens transparent, or very occasionally making the two screens the same. As a result, we can place constraints on Trot, Tvib, NC2H2, and the filling factor, f. In particular we find 0.03 < f < 0.3 with a best fit of f ~ 0.1. We also find Tvib vib C2H2 = 2.4 +/- 0.6 × 1016 cm-2, or that N × f ~ 2 × 1015 cm-2. Lastly, we find 80 rot < 140 K, with a best fit of Trot ~ 100 K. Physically, this can be interpreted as: (1) no vibrational excitation, (2) the warm region only fills a small fraction of the beam, (3) the C2H2 arises very near a region of 100 K. Chemically, this is in consistent with a model where the C2H2 is formed in the gas phase. It is however consistent with a scenario where the C2H2 is evaporated at 100 K from the grain surface, suggesting either a grain-surface origin or earlier origin followed by condensation. Finally, the C2H2 column density is consistent with a disk geometry.

BACKGROUND Peripheral blood stem cells(PBSC)are commonly cryopreserved awaiting clinical use for hematopoietic stem cell *** term cryopreservation is commonly defined as five years or longer,and limited data exists regarding how long PBSC can be cryopreserved and retain the ability to successfully *** programs,stem cell banks,and regulatory and accrediting agencies interested in product stability would benefit from such ***,we assessed recovery and colony forming ability of PBSC following long-term cryopreservation as well as their ability to engraft in NOD/SCID/IL-2 Rγnull(NSG)*** To investigate the in vivo engraftment potential of long-term cryopreserved PBSC *** PBSC units which were collected and frozen using validated clinical protocols were obtained for research use from the Cellular Therapy Laboratory at Indiana University *** units were thawed in the Cellular Therapy Laboratory using clinical standards of practice,and the pre-freeze and post-thaw characteristics of the units were *** function was assessed using standard colony-forming ***34-selected cells were transplanted into immunodeficient mice to assess stem cell *** Ten PBSC units with mean of 17 years in cryopreservation(range 13.6-18.3 years)demonstrated a mean total cell recovery of 88%±12%(range 68%-110%)and post-thaw viability of 69%±17%(range 34%-86%).BFU-E growth was shown in 9 of 10 units and CFU-GM growth in 7 of 10 units *** mice were transplanted with CD34-selected cells from four randomly chosen PBSC *** mice demonstrated long-term engraftment at 12 wk with mean34%±24%human CD45+cells,and differentiation with presence of human CD19+,CD3+and CD33+*** bone marrow from all mice demonstrated growth of erythroid and myeloid *** We demonstrated engraftment of clinically-collected and thawed PBSC following cryopreservation up to 18 years in NSG mice,sign

AIM To review surgical outcomes for patients undergoing pancreatectomy after proton therapy with concomitant capecitabine for initially unresectable pancreatic *** From April 2010 to September 2013,15 patients with initially unresectable pancreatic cancer were treated withproton therapy with concomitant capecitabine at 1000 mg orally twice daily. All patients received 59.40 Gy(RBE) to the gross disease and 1 patient received 50.40 Gy(RBE) to high-risk nodal targets. There were no treatment interruptions and no chemotherapy dose reductions. Six patients achieved a radiographic response sufficient to justify surgical exploration,of whom 1 was identified as having intraperitoneal dissemination at the time of surgery and the planned pancreatectomy was aborted. Five patients underwent resection. Procedures included:Laparoscopic standard pancreaticoduodenectomy(n = 3),open pyloris-sparing pancreaticoduodenectomy(n = 1),and open distal pancreatectomy with irreversible electroporation(IRE) of a pancreatic head mass(n = 1). RESULTS The median patient age was 60 years(range,51-67). The median duration of surgery was 419 min(range,290-484),with a median estimated blood loss of 850 cm^3(range,300-2000),median ICU stay of 1 d(range,0-2),and median hospital stay of 10 d(range,5-14). Three patients were re-admitted to a hospital within 30 d after discharge for wound infection(n = 1),delayed gastric emptying(n = 1),and ischemic gastritis(n = 1). Two patients underwent R0 resections and demonstrated minimal residual disease in the final pathology specimen. One patient,after negative pancreatic head biopsies,underwent IRE followed by distal pancreatectomy with no tumor seen in the specimen. Two patients underwent R2 resections. Only 1 patient demonstrated ultimate local progression at the primary site. The highly condensed chromatin of mammalian spermatozoa is usually considered to be biologically inert before fertilization. However, we have demonstrated that even in this compacted state, sperm chromatin is subject to degradation at open configurations associated with the nuclear matrix through a process we have termed sperm chromatin fragmentation （SCF）. ＂[his suggests that a mechanism exists to monitor the health of spermatozoa during transit through the male reproductive tract and to destroy the genome of defective sperm cells. The site of DNA damage in SCF, the matrix attachment sites, are the same that we hypothesize initiate DNA synthesis in the zygote. When sperm that have damaged DNA are injected into the oocyte, the newly created zygote responds by delaying DNA synthesis in the male pronudeus and, if the damage is severe enough, arresting the embryo＇s development. Here we present a model for paternal DNA regulation by the nuclear matrix that begins during sperm maturation and continues through early embryonic development.

The most exciting moment for an aeronautical engineer is when his or her design becomes a working aircraft, the endpoint of a journey that begins in the classroom.
