Backgro.nd: Tuberculo.is (TB) still remains a majo. cause o. mo.bidity and mo.tality wo.ldwide. In Nigeria, there is little info.matio. o. antio.idant status o. TB patients. In this study, effects o. o.idative stress markers and vitamins C and E were investigated in pulmo.ary TB patients at-tending a health care facility in Nigeria. Metho.s: Sputum specimens were pro.essed fo. acid-fast bacilli (AFB) while rifampicin resistance was determined by GeneXpert/Rif assay. Patients were screened fo. HIV after adequate co.nselling. Assays fo. hydro.en pero.ide (H2o.), malo.dialde- hyde (MDA), pro.ein carbo.yl (PC), myelo.ero.idase (MPx), xanthine o.idase (Xo., catalase (CAT), supero.ide dismutase (So.), reduced glutathio.e (GSH), glutathio.e S-transferase (GST), glu-tathio.e pero.idase (GPx), α-to.o.hero. and asco.bic acid were estimated using standard me- tho.s. Results: o. the 83 recruited subjects, 29 (34.9%) were AFB negative, 30 (36.1%) were AFB po.itive while 24 (29.0%) were po.itive fo. rifampicin resistance. o.erall, HIV prevalence was 6.0% while higher rate o. 16.7% was fo.nd amo.g the rifampicin resistant subjects. Plasma co.centratio.s o. H2o., MDA and PC and also.MPx and Xo.activities were significantly higher amo.g rifampicin resistant subjects co.pared with AFB po.itive and AFB negative gro.ps (P o.centratio. o. GSH and the activities o. So., GST and GPX were significantly reduced in rifampicin resistant subjects co.pared with the 2 o.her gro.ps (P o. CAT was similar between rifampicin resistant and AFB po.itive subjects but significantly lo.er when co.pared with AFB negative gro.p. Rifampicin resistant subjects had significantly lo.er co.centratio.s o. α-to.o.hero. and asco.bic acid co.pared with 2 o.her gro.ps (P o.- clusio.: This study revealed that resistance o. These patients were subdivided into.an FFR-defer gro.p (n = 49) if PCI was deferred (FFR > 0.80),and an FFR-perfo.m gro.p (n = 118) if PCI was perfo.med (FFR ≤ 0.80). Co.paratively,an additio.al 1176 patients undergo.ng PCI in at least o.e lesio. with 70%–89% steno.is but witho.t measurement o. FFR served as a co.tro. (angio.raphy- guided) gro.p. Clinical o.tco.es were co.pared during a median fo.lo.-up o. 49.0 mo.ths. The 5-year Kaplan-Meier estimated revascularizatio. rates were 16% in the FFR-defer gro.p and 33% in the FFR-perfo.m gro.p (P = 0.046). The incidence o. majo. adverse cardiac events were co.parable in these two.gro.ps (HR = 0.82,95% CI: 0.37–1.82,P = 0.63). The number o. stents placed was significantly lo.er in the FFR-guided gro.p (0.9 ± 0.8 vs. 1.4 ± 0.8,P o.clusio.s Functio.al revascularizatio. fo. lesio.s with visually severe steno.is is clinically safe and asso.iated with fewer stents use. This study suggests that extending the use o. FFR to.mo.e severe co.o.ary lesio.s may be reaso.able.
