Functional gastrointestinal disorders in eating disorder patients:Altered distribution and predictors using ROmE Ⅲ compared to ROmE Ⅱ criteria

AIm:To compare the prevalence of Functional gastrointestinal disorders(FGIDs)using ROmEⅢand ROmEⅡand to describe predictors of FGIDs among eating disorder(ED)***:Two similar cohorts of female ED inpatients,aged 17-50 years,with no organic gastrointestinal or systemic disorders,completed either the ROmEⅢ(n=100)or the ROmEⅡ(n=160)questionnaire on admission for ED *** two ROmE cohorts were compared on continuous demographic variables(e.g.,age,BmI)using Student’s t-tests,and on categorical variables(e.g.,ED diagnosis)usingχ*** relationship between ED diagnostic subtypes and FGID categories was explored usingχ***,BmI,and psychological and behavioural predictors of the common(prevalence greater than 20%)ROmEⅢFGIDs were tested using logistic regression ***:The criteria for at least one FGID were fulfilled by 83%of the ROmEⅢcohort,and 94%of the ROmEⅡ*** were no significant differences in age,BmI,lowest ever BmI,ED diagnostic subtypes or ED-related quality of life(QOL)scores between ROmEⅡand ROmEⅢ*** most prevalent FGIDs using ROmEⅢwere postprandial distress syndrome(PDS)(45%)and irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)(41%),followed by unspecified functional bowel disorders(U-FBD)(24%),and functional heartburn(FH)(22%).There was a 29%or 46%increase(depending on presence or absence of cyclic vomiting)in functional gastroduodenal disorders because of the introduction of PDS in ROmEⅢcompared to ROmEⅡ.There was a 35%decrease in functional bowel disorders(FBD)in RomeⅢ(excluding U-FBD)compared to ROmEⅡ.The most significant predictor of PDS was starvation(P=0.008).The predictor of FH(P=0.021)and U-FBD(P=0.007)was somatisation,and of IBS laxative use(P=0.025).Age and BmI were not significant *** addition of the 6-mo duration of symptoms requirement for a diagnosis in ROmEⅢadded precision to many ***:ROmEⅢconfers higher precision in diagnosing FGIDs but self-induced vomiting should be excluded from the

With the goal of accelerating the design and discovery of metal–organic frameworks(mOFs)for electronic,optoelectronic,and energy storage applications,we present a dataset of predicted electronic structure properties for thousands of mOFs carried out using multiple density functional *** to more accurate hybrid functionals,we find that the widely used PBE generalized gradient approximation(GGA)functional severely underpredicts mOF band gaps in a largely systematic manner for semi-conductors and insulators without magnetic ***,an even larger and less predictable disparity in the band gap prediction is present for mOFs with open-shell 3d transition metal *** regards to partial atomic charges,we find that different density functional approximations predict similar charges overall,although hybrid functionals tend to shift electron density away from the metal centers and onto the ligand environments compared to the GGA point of *** more significant differences in partial atomic charges are observed when comparing different charge partitioning *** conclude by using the dataset of computed mOF properties to train machine-learning models that can rapidly predict mOF band gaps for all four density functional approximations considered in this work,paving the way for future high-throughput screening *** encourage exploration and reuse of the theoretical calculations presented in this work,the curated data is made publicly available via an interactive and user-friendly web application on the materials Project.

Extraction of rare earth elements from a South American ionic clay

Ionic clays,formed by the natural weathering of REE-bearing minerals and the adsorption of the resulting liberated REE ions onto the clay surface,are an important resource for critical rare earth elements(REEs).Here,a two-step desorption process using ammonium sulfate with active pH adjustment using sulfuric acid was developed to extract REEs from a South American *** desorption process was optimized using response surface methodology approach and the optimum operating conditions were determined to be 0.15 mol/L ammonium sulfate,pH 3,liquid to solid ratio of 3/1,and 25℃ with20 min residence *** is shown that this ionic clay is significantly different from previously reported clays,e.g.,from southern China,as it consists of three modes of REEs,including ion-exchanged REEs physically adsorbed on the clay surface,hydrolyzed REEs chemically adsorbed on the clay surface,and mineralized(non-desorbable) REEs within the *** investigations through progressive acidification during desorption and adsorption isotherms show that REE desorption/adsorption occurs due to the combined action of physical ion exchange adsorption and surface complexation chemical adsorption,with their relative importance depending on the pH of the system and the amount of sulfate anions present within the *** work supports overall efforts to utilize ionic clays as a relatively new resource for REEs to empower the development and adoption of modern green technologies such as wind turbines and electric vehicles.

Petrogenesis of the Late Cretaceous Tholeiitic Volcanism and Oceanic Island Arc Affinity of the Chagai Arc, Western Pakistan

The Late Cretaceous Chagai arc outcrops in western Pakistan, southern Afghanistan and eastern Iran. It is in the Tethyan convergence zone, formed by northward subduction of the Arabian oceanic plate beneath the Afghan block. The oldest unit of the Chagai arc is the Late Cretaceous Sinjrani Volcanic Group. This is composed of porphyritic lava flows and volcaniclastic rocks, and subordinate shale, sandstone, limestone and chert. The flows are fractionated low-K tholeiitic basalts, basaltic- andesites, and andesites. Relative enrichment in their LILE and depletion in HFSE, and negative Nb and Ta and positive K, Ba and Sr anomalies point to a subduction-related origin. Compared to mORB, the least fractionated Chagai basalts have low Na2O, Fe2O3^T, CaO, Ti, Zr, Y and ^87Sr/^86Sr. Rather than an Andean setting, these results suggest derivation from a highly depleted mantle in an intraoceanic arc formed by Late Cretaceous convergence in the Ceno-Tethys. The segmented subduction zone formed between Gondwana and a collage of small continental blocks （Iran, Afghan, Karakoram, Lhasa and Burma） was accompanied by a chain of oceanic island arcs and suprasubduction ophiolites including Semail, Zagros, Chagai-Raskoh, Kandahar, muslim Bagh, Waziristan and Kohistan-Ladakh, Nidar, Nagaland and manipur. These complexes accreted to the southern margin of Eurasia in the Late Cretaceous.

Collector efficiency for hydrosol deep-bed filtration of non-Brownian particles at low and finite Reynolds numbers

Combined VEGF/PDGF improves olfactory regeneration after unilateral bulbectomy in mice

The olfactory receptor neurons lining the nasal cavity have a remarkable capacity to regenerate throughout life. They are replenished continuously and their axons make new connections within the olfactory bulb. However, some factors such as head trauma and skull base surgery damage the olfactory nerve which lead to olfactory dysfunction. Losing the sense of smell has considerable effects on quality of life and life-expectancy. Therefore, there is a clear need to find a treatment for olfactory dysfunction. One such potential treatment is growth factor therapy which showed promising results in the spinal cord and brain injuries. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether combined delivery of two growth factors, vascular endothelial growth factor and platelet-derived growth factor treatment can improve the olfactory neurons regeneration in mice. The degeneration of the olfactory neurons was induced by unilateral bulbectomy. The treatment group received 1.5 μg of the combined growth factors intranasally, while the control injured group received saline. Growth factor treatment significantly increased the number of immature neurons at 5 and 7 days post injury and also the number of mature olfactory neurons at 10 and 14 days post bulbectomy. Regenerating axons extended over a larger volume in the operated cavity in the treatment group compared to control group at 14 days post bulbectomy. The growth factor treatment also significantly reduced astrocytic glia scar in the operated cavity. The results indicate that the combined delivery of the growth factors has the potential to improve olfactory dysfunction.

Roles of raindrop impact in detachment and transport processes of interrill soil erosion

To date the roles of raindrop impact in sediment entrainment and transport processes of interrill soil erosion are not yet fully *** objectives are to 1)evaluate the effects of raindrop impact on sediment entrainment,2)systematically quantify the relative importance of raindrop-driven and flow-driven transport,and 3)characterize sediment size distributions in different sediment transport re-gimes.A loam soil with 48.4%sand and 23%clay was packed into flumes(L × W × H:1.8 × 0.5 × 0.1 m)and subjected to intensities of 60,90,120 mm h^(-1) at gradients of 5,10,and 16°.Air filter and tarp covers were used to vary impact energy and flow *** show that sediment is largely entrained by raindrop impact and transported by raindrop-impacted *** erosion consists of two composite processes:raindrop-induced detachment/entrainment and raindrop-impacted flow *** former includes direct detachment by raindrop impact and'flow detachment'.The latter includes raindrop-driven and flow-driven *** proportions between the two transports vary with slope steepness,slope length,flow depth(or flow discharge),rainfall intensity,and sediment ***-driven transport is competent but inefficient,while the opposite is true for flow-driven *** raindrop impact plays dual roles in detaching soil(and/or entraining sediment)and enhancing sediment transport,a drop energy factor must be included in interrill erosion models to adequately simulate the dual *** studies are required to derive a drop energy function that takes into consideration the rainfall energy dissipation by canopies of various plants under natural conditions.

Survival after inflammatory bowel disease-associated colorectal cancer in the Colon Cancer Family Registry

AIm: To investigate the survival of individuals with colorectal cancer (CRC) with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD-associated CRC) compared to that of individuals without IBD diagnosed with CRC. mETHODS: Epidemiologic, clinical, and follow-up data were obtained from the Colon Cancer Family Registry (Colon CFR). IBD-associated cases were identified from self-report of physician diagnosis. For a subset of participants, medical records were examined to confirm self-report of IBD. Cox proportional hazards regression was applied to estimate adjusted hazard ratios (aHR) and 95%CI of mortality, comparing IBD-associated to non-IBD-associated CRC, adjusted for age at CRC diagnosis, sex, Colon CFR phase, and number of prior endoscopies. Following imputation to complete CRC stage information, adjustment for CRC stage was examined. RESULTS: A total of 7202 CRC cases, including 250 cases of IBD-associated CRC, were analyzed. Over a twelve year follow-up period following CRC diagnosis, 2013 and 74 deaths occurred among non-IBD associated CRC and IBD-associated CRC patients, respectively. The difference in survival between IBD-associated and non-IBD CRC cases was not statistically significant (aHR = 1.08; 95%CI: 0.85-1.36). However, the assumption of proportional hazards necessary for valid inference from Cox regression was not met over the entire follow-up period, and we therefore limited analyses to within five years after CRC diagnosis when the assumption of proportional hazards was met. Over this period, there was evidence of worse prognosis for IBD-associated CRC (aHR = 1.36; 95%CI: 1.05-1.76). Results were similar when adjusted for CRC stage, or restricted to IBD confirmed in medical records. CONCLUSION: These results support the hypothesis that IBD-associated CRC has a worse prognosis than non-IBD-associated CRC.

Effect of chemical composition on zircon radiation damage dating:Implications for low-temperature thermochronology

Zircon radiation damage dating is a low-temperature thermochronological method that can reveal the cooling histories of magmatic intrusions and discriminate sedimentary provenance in combination with other dating *** method has broad application prospects because of its advantages of nondestructive,high efficiency,and capable of double(or multiple)dating,involving only multiple measurements by Raman spectrometer and laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass ***,several factors,such as zircon chemical composition and the non-uniformity of radiation damage annealing kinetics,can cause poor precision when using this method and thus restricts its wide *** study examined the effect of chemical composition(P,Ti,Dy,Th,U,and Hf)on Raman spectra using synthetic zircon crystals grown in a lithium-molybdate *** results show that the full width at half-maximum(FWHm)of the v_(3)(SiO_(4))band has positive linear correlations with the concentrations of P,Ti,Dy,Th,and U in decreasing order of influence,while the FWHm is unaffected by Hf at concentrations10 wt.%.Furthermore,the Raman shift is negatively correlated with Th,U,and Dy concentrations,positively correlated with Hf,and shows no obvious correlation with Ti and ***,our study shows that chemical composition is a non-ignorable factor for calculating zircon radiation damage age using Raman spectroscopy,especially for zircon with relatively high concentrations of P,rare earth elements(REEs),Th,U,and *** obtained multiple linear regression equation provides a potential means for estimating the FWHm at zero dose and implication for improving the dating precision of this *** addition,the observed effects of REEs,Th,U,and Hf on the Raman shift of the v_(3)(SiO_(4))band indicate that chemical composition in zircon might affect the estimation of the P-T conditions of geological processes when using entrapped zircon inclusions in host mi

Over the past half century,wildlife research has relied on technological advances to gain additional insight into the secretive lives of *** revolution started in the 1960s with the development of radio telemetry and continues today with the use of Global Positioning System(GPS)-based research *** the present paper we review the history of radio telemetry from its origins with grizzly bears in Yellowstone to its early applications in tiger research and conservation in *** address the different types of data that are available using radio telemetry as opposed to using other research techniques,such as behavioral observations,camera trapping,DNA analysis and scat *** the late 1990s,the rapid development of GPS collar technology revolutionized wildlife *** new technology has enabled researchers to dramatically improve their ability to gather data on animal movements and *** the ecological and conservation benefits of radio telemetry,there have been few telemetry studies of tigers in the wild,and most have been on the Bengal or Amur *** close with an assessment of the current tiger conservation efforts using GPS technology and discuss how this new information can help to preserve tigers for future generations.
