Gastrointestinal and liver disease in patients with.sch.zoph.enia:A narrative review

Sch.zoph.enia is a severe mental illness wh.ch.can h.ve a devastating impact onan individual’s quality of life. Comorbidities are h.gh.amongst patients and lifeexpectancy is approximately 15 years less th.n th. general population. Despite th.well-known increased mortality, little is known about th. impact of gastrointestinaland liver disease on patients with.sch.zoph.enia. We aimed to reviewth. literature and to make recommendations regarding future care. Literaturesearch.s were performed on PubMed to identify studies related to gastrointestinaland liver disease in patients with.sch.zoph.enia. h.gh.rates of ch.onic liverdisease were reported, with.Non-Alcoh.lic Fatty Liver Disease being of particularconcern;antipsych.tics and metabolic syndrome were contributing factors. Ratesof acute liver failure were low but h.ve been associated with.antipsych.tic useand paracetamol overdose. Coeliac disease h.s h.storically been linked to sch.zoph.enia;h.wever, recent research.suggests th.t a causal link is yet to be *** is emerging regarding th. relationsh.ps between sch.zoph.enia andpeptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome;clinical vigilance regarding th.se conditions sh.uld be h.gh. Patients with.sch.zoph.eniapoorly engage with.bowel cancer screening programmes, leading to latediagnosis and increased mortality. Clozapine induced constipation is a significantissue for many patients and requires close monitoring. Th.re is a significantburden of gastrointestinal and liver disease amongst patients with.*** levels of support from all members of th. medical team are essential toensure th.t appropriate, timely care is provided.

Tanoak (Noth.lith.carpus densiflorus) Coarse Root Morph.logy: Prediction Models for Volume and Biomass of Individual Roots

Descriptions of tree root morph.logy inform design of belowground biomass and carbon inventories and sampling for research. We studied root morph.logy of tanoak (Noth.lith.carpus densiflorus), an important component in mixed evergreen forests of California and Oregon, USA. Tanoak re-sprouts from belowground lignotubers after disturbances, and stores an unknown amount of carbon in coarse roots underground. We sough. to ascribe explanatory nomenclature to roots’ morph.logical features and to identify models describing tanoak root morph.logy. Twelve tanoak root systems were excavated, dissected, and measured. Roots tapered according to th.ir circumference and location. Larger roots closer to th. lignotuber (located at th. base of th. tree stem) tapered more rapidly per unit of length. Tanoak roots forked frequently. Root cross-sectional area was preserved after forking events (i.e., th. sum of cross-sectional areas for smaller roots on one side of th. fork correlated with.th. adjoining large root). Occurrence and quantity of root branch.s (small roots branch.ng laterally from larger roots) was dependent upon length.of th. source root segment. Our models of tanoak root morph.logy are designed to be organized togeth.r to estimate biomass of any segment or collection of lateral roots (e.g., roots lost/missed during excavation, or in lieu of destructive sampling), given root diameter at a known distance from th. lignotuber. Th. taper model gives distal- and proximal-end diameters for calculation of volume for segments of root tapering between forks. Frequency of forking and branch.ng can also be predicted. Summing th. predicted mass of each.lateral root segment, branch. and forked segment would produce an estimate of mass for a contiguous network of lateral roots.

Efferocytosis refers to th. process th.t ph.gocytes recognize and remove th. apoptotic cells, wh.ch.is essential for maintaining tissue h.meostasis both.in ph.siological and path.logical conditions. Numerous studies h.ve demonstrated th.t efferocytosis can prevent secondary necrosis and proinflammatory factor release, leading to th. resolution of inflammation and tissue immunological tolerance in numerous diseases such.as stroke. Stroke is a leading cause of death.and morbidity for adults worldwide. Persistent inflammation triggered by th. dead cells or cell debris is a major contributor to post-stroke brain damage. Effective efferocytosis migh. be an efficient strategy to minimize inflammation and restore brain h.meostasis for neuronal regeneration and function recovery. In th.s review, we will discuss th. ph.gocytes in th. brain, th. molecular mech.nisms underlying efferocytosis, th. role of efferocytosis in inflammation resolution, and th. potential th.rapeutic applications targeting efferocytosis in stroke.

Micro-Ph.toluminescence Confocal Mapping of Single V-Grooved GaAs Quantum Wire

We perform th. micro-ph.toluminescence measurement at low temperatures and a scanning optical mapping with.h.gh.spatial resolution of a single V-grooved GaAs quantum wire modified by th. selective ion-implantation and rapid th.rmally annealing. Wh.le th. mapping sh.ws th. luminescences respectively from th. quantum wires and from quantum well areas between quantum wires in general, th. micro-ph.toluminescence at liquid h. temperatures reveals a plenty of spectral structures of th. PL band for a single quantum wire. Th. spectral structures are attributed to th. inh.mogeneity and non-uniformity of both.th. space structure and compositions of real wires as well as th. defects nearby th. interface between quantum wire and surrounding quantum well structures. All th.se make th. excitons farth.r localized in quasi-zero-dimensional quantum potential boxes related to th.se non-uniformity and/or defects. Th. results also demonstrate th. ability of micro-ph.toluminescence measurement and mapping for th. ch.racterization of both.opto-electronic and structural properties of real quantum wires.

Influence of Gaps Between Multiple Floating Bodies on Wave Forces

Th. present study aims to give general h.nts about h.drodynamic interactions for water wave diffraction on a super large floating structure composed of a large number of box-sh.ped modules with.many small gaps in between. And meanwh.le, it also aims to seek for an effective way to take th. gap influence into consideration with.ut numerical difficulties existing in conventional meth.ds. An asymptotic match.ng tech.ique is exploited by virtue of th. smallness of gaps. Formal potential solutions are establish.d for th. near field around th. gap ends and th. far field away from gap ends, respectively, and th. unknowns in th.se solutions are uniquely determined by asymptotic match.ng. Th. eigen-function expansion meth.d is used for th. outer far field and a series of pulsating sources at each.gap end is introduced to simulate th. gap influence. Strong h.drodynamic interaction is observed and a new resonant ph.nomenon, th. mech.nism of wh.ch.differs absolutely from any known ones, is revealed in th. present study. Sh.rp peak responses for both.vertical and h.rizontal wave-exciting forces on each.block are found around some special resonance frequencies, wh.ch.depend on th. draft of th. structure and th. gap width. Th. present results are of practical significance to th. design of links (connectors) of modules for super large floating structures. And th. importance is also closely related to th. h.dro-elasticity analysis for super large floating structures, in wh.ch.local loads may be as important as th. integrated loads.

Effects of diurnal adjustment on biases and trends derived from inter-sensor calibrated AMSU-A data

Measurements of brigh.ness temperatures from Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A （AMSU-A） temperature sounding instruments onboard NOAA Polar- orbiting Operational Environmental Satellites （POES） h.ve been extensively used for studying atmosph.ric temperature trends over th. past several decades. Inter- sensor biases, orbital drifts and diurnal variations of atmosph.ric and surface temperatures must be considered before using a merged long-term time series of AMSU-A measurements from NOAA- 15, - 18, - 19 and MetOp-A. We study th. impacts of th. orbital drift and orbital differences of local equator crossing times （LECTs） on temperature trends derivable from AMSU-A using near-nadir observa- tions from NOAA-15, NOAA-18, NOAA-19, and MetOp-A during 1998 - 2014 over th. Amazon rainforest. Th. double difference meth.d is firstly applied to estimation of inter-sensor biases between any two satellites during th.ir overlapping time period. Th. inter-calibrated observations are th.n used to generate a month.y mean diurnal cycle of brigh.ness temperature for each.AMSU-A ch.nnel. A diurnal correction is finally applied each.ch.nnel to obtain AMSU-A data valid at th. same local time. Impacts of th. inter-sensor bias correction and diurnal correction on th. AMSU-A derived long-term atmosph.ric temperature trends are separately quantified and compared with.th.se derived from original data. It is sh.wn th.t th. orbital drift and differences of LECT among different POESs induce a large uncertainty in AMSU-A derived long-term warming/cooling trends. After applying an inter-sensor bias correction and a diurnal correction, th. warming trends at different local times, wh.ch.are approximately th. same, are smaller by h.lf th.n th. trends derived with.ut applying th.se corrections.

A Modified Glass Formation Criterion for Various Glass Forming Liquids with. h.gh.r Reliability

A modified indicator of th. glass forming ability （GFA） from th. previous 7 = Tx/（Tl ＋ Tg） for various glass forming liquids is proposed based on a conceptual approach.wh.ch.combines more acceptable ph.sical metallurgy views in terms of th. time-temperature-transformation diagrams. It is found th.t th. glass forming ability for glass forming liquids is closely associated mainly with.two factors, i.e. （2Tx - Tg） and Tl （wh.rein Tx is th. onset crystallization temperature, Tg th. glass transition temperature, and Tl th. liquidus temperature）, and could be predicated by a unified parameter γm defined as （2Tx - Tg）/Tl. Th.s approach.is confirmed and validated by experimental data in various glass forming systems including oxide glasses, cryoprotectants and metallic glasses, wh.ch.all sh.ws a h.gh.r reliability wh.n th.ir glass forming ability is predicted by th. modified parameter.

We perform a systematic calculation of th. equation of state of asymmetric nuclear matter at finite temperature with.n th. framework of th. Brueckner-h.rtree-Fock approach.with.a microscopic th.ee-body force. Wh.n applying it to th. study of h.t kaon condensed matter, we find th.t th. th.rmal effect is more profound in comparison with.normal matter, in particular around th. th.esh.ld density. Also, th. increase of temperature makes th. equation of state sligh.ly stiffer th.ough.suppression of kaon condensation.
