Acute or worsening.heart f.ilure is a common reason f.r hospitalization which carries a hig. mortality. Prompt diag.osis or exclusion of.Hf.and its cause and precipitating.f.ctors can improve the quality and ef.iciency of.care, shorten hospital stay, reduce readmission and improve prog.osis. While the clinician remains central to reaching.a clinical diag.osis of.heart f.ilure, the use of.traditional and novel diag.ostic technolog.es will improve the specif.city and sensitivity of.the diag.osis of.heart f.ilure diag.osis and provide insig.ts into its pathophysiog.cal prof.le and help tailor therapy to individual patient need. Chest X-rays and electrocardiog.ams are g.nerally available;echocardiog.ams less so. Novel technolog.es include both invasive and non-invasive methods to detect increases in intrathoracic f.uid, pulmonary cong.stion, lef. ventricular f.lling.pressures, cardiac output and vascular f.nction. However, f.w of.these technolog.es have been subjected to randomised controlled trials investig.ting.their ability to improve patient manag.ment.

A machine learning.model, using.the transf.rmer architecture, is used to desig. a f.edback compensator and pref.lter f.r various simulated plants. The output of.the transf.rmer is a sequence of.compensator and pref.lter parameters. The compensator and pref.lter are linear models, preserving.the ability to analyze the system with linear control theory. The input to the network is a window of.recent ref.rence and output samples. The g.al of.the transf.rmer is to minimize tracking.error at each time step. The plants under consideration rang. f.om simple to challeng.ng. The more dif.icult plants contain closely spaced, lig.tly damped, complex conjug.te pairs of.poles and zeros. Results are compared to PID controllers tuned f.r a similar crossover f.equency and optimal phase marg.n. f.r simple plants, the transf.rmer converg.s to solutions which overly rely on the pref.lter, neg.ecting.the maximization of.neg.tive f.edback. f.r more complex plants, the transf.rmer desig.s a compensator and pref.lter with more desirable qualities. In all cases, the transf.rmer can start with random model parameters and modif. them to minimize tracking.error on the step ref.rence.

Althoug. mechanisms of.telomere protection are well-def.ned in dif.erentiated cells,how stem cells sense and respond to telomere dysf.nction,in particular telomeric double-strand breaks(DSBs),is poorly ***,we report the DNA damag. sig.aling.cell cycle,and transcriptome chang.s in human induced pluripotent stem cells(iPSCs)in response to telomere-internal *** eng.neer human iPSCs with an inducible TRf.-f.kI f.sion protein to acutely induce DSBs at *** this model,we demonstrate that TRf.-f.kI DSBs activate an ATR-dependent DNA damag. response,which leads to p53-independent cell cycle arrest in *** CRISPR–Cas9 to cripple the catalytic domain of.telomerase reverse transcriptase,we show that telomerase is larg.ly dispensable f.r survival and leng.hening.of.TRf.-f.kI-cleaved telomeres,which instead are ef.ectively repaired by robust homolog.us recombination(HR).In contrast to HR-based telomere maintenance in mouse embryonic stem cells,where HR causes ZSCAN4-dependent extension of.telomeres beyond their initial leng.hs,HR-based repair of.telomeric breaks is suf.icient to maintain iPSC telomeres at a normal leng.h,which is compatible with sustained survival of.the cells over several days of.TRf.-f.kI *** f.nding. sug.est a previously unappreciated role f.r HR in telomere maintenance in telomerase-positive iPSCs and reveal distinct iPSC-specif.c responses to targ.ted telomeric DNA damag..

1 INTRODUCTION,This is the third Editorial/Commentary that one of.us(***)has written relating.to boron neutron capture therapy(BNCT)[1,2].f.r those readers who are unf.miliar with BNCT we would ref.r them to several recent comprehensive reviews[3–5].The second Editorial ended on a hopef.l note that with the introduction of.acceleratorbased neutron sources(ABNSs),BNCT would enter into the mainstream of.radiation therapy[2].

This paper investig.tes the characteristics of.a clinical dataset using.a combination of.f.ature selection and classif.cation methods to handle missing.values and understand the underlying.statistical characteristics of.a typical clinical dataset. Typically, when a larg. clinical dataset is presented, it consists of.challeng.s such as missing.values, hig. dimensionality, and unbalanced classes. These pose an inherent problem when implementing.f.ature selection and classif.cation alg.rithms. With most clinical datasets, an initial exploration of.the dataset is carried out, and those attributes with more than a certain percentag. of.missing.values are eliminated f.om the dataset. Later, with the help of.missing.value imputation, f.ature selection and classif.cation alg.rithms, prog.ostic and diag.ostic models are developed. This paper has two main conclusions: 1) Despite the nature of.clinical datasets, and their larg. size, methods f.r missing.value imputation do not af.ect the f.nal perf.rmance. What is crucial is that the dataset is an accurate representation of.the clinical problem and those methods of.imputing.missing.values are not critical f.r developing.classif.ers and prog.ostic/diag.ostic models. 2) Supervised learning.has proven to be more suitable f.r mining.clinical data than unsupervised methods. It is also shown that non-parametric classif.ers such as decision trees g.ve better results when compared to parametric classif.ers such as radial basis f.nction networks(RBf.s).

The Smart g.id is an enhancement of.the traditional g.id system and employs new technolog.es and sophisticated communication techniques f.r electrical power transmission and distribution. The Smart g.id’s communication network shares inf.rmation about status of.its several integ.ated IEDs (Intellig.nt Electronic Devices). However, the IEDs connected throug.out the Smart g.id, open opportunities f.r attackers to interf.re with the communications and utilities resources or take clients’ private data. This development has introduced new cyber-security challeng.s f.r the Smart g.id and is a very concerning.issue because of.emerg.ng.cyber-threats and security incidents that have occurred recently all over the world. The purpose of.this research is to detect and mitig.te Distributed Denial of.Service [DDoS] with application to the Electrical Smart g.id System by deploying.an optimized Stealthwatch Secure Network analytics tool. In this paper, the DDoS attack in the Smart g.id communication networks was modeled using.Stealthwatch tool. The simulated network consisted of.Secure Network Analytic tools virtual machines (VMs), electrical g.id network communication topolog., attackers and Targ.t VMs. f.nally, the experiments and simulations were perf.rmed, and the research results showed that Stealthwatch analytic tool is very ef.ective in detecting.and mitig.ting.DDoS attacks in the Smart g.id System without causing.any blackout or shutdown of.any internal systems as compared to other tools such as g.S3, NeSSi2, NISST f.amework, OMNeT++, INET f.amework, ReaSE, NS2, NS3, M5 Simulator, OPNET, PLC & TIA Portal manag.ment Sof.ware which do not have the capability to do so. Also, using.Stealthwatch tool to create a security baseline f.r Smart g.id environment, contributes to risk mitig.tion and sound security hyg.ene.

Backg.ound The timing.of.behavior and habitat use of.nocturnal animals can be inf.uenced by the lunar cycle in nature. The prevalence of.artif.cial lig.t at nig.t(ALAN) has been recog.ized as a source of.environmental pol-lution. The interaction between ALAN and the lunar cycle on bat behavior is important f.r understanding.anthro-pog.nic ef.ects on bats. We utilized a decade(2012–2022) of.acoustic monitoring.data collected in North Carolina, United States, to investig.te the relationship between bat activity, lunar cycle, and lig.t pollution. We examined whether the amount of.lunar illumination af.ected species-specif.c nig.tly activity and whether hourly bat activity patterns varied between nig.ts with dif.erent moon phases. We f.rther investig.ted if.the relationship between bat activity and the lunar cycle mig.t be altered by lig.t *** We f.und that seven bat species showed activity variation across nig.ts in relation to the amount of.moon illumination when ALAN was absent. In g.neral, bats were less active on f.ll moon nig.ts compared to new moon nig.ts. Lig.t pollution interacted with the bat–lunar relationship in f.ve of.the seven species, masking.the ef.ect of.the lunar cycle. We identif.ed delayed bat activity patterns on nig.ts with a f.ll or waxing.moon in seven species, and lig.t pollution altered that pattern in f.ur species. Overall, ALAN was associated with decreased bat activity inde-pendent of.lunar cycle *** Our study demonstrated that at a broad spatial scale, ALAN neg.tively af.ected many North American temperate bat species and altered their lunar chronobiolog.. As lig.t pollution is spreading.to historically dark areas and habitats, ALAN mig.t couple with other threats, such as the white-nose syndrome or climate chang., to cause cascading.damag. in the environment that depends on ecosystem services such as pest control provided by bats.
