Diamondback terrapins(Malaclemys terrapin)inhabit estuaries in eastern USA and may tolerate salinity of seawater for short *** North American estuaries are adversely affected by anthropogenic impacts,such as pollution,dredging and invasion by non-native *** nesting areas have been altered or destroyed,causing terrapins to nest on roadsides and artificial islands made of dredged substrate from bottom *** by non-native plants may suppress development and reduce survival of *** Barnegat Bay,New Jersey,USA,there is a mosaic of natural and degraded terrapin nesting *** investigated the effects of dredge soil and shade on the hatching success of diamondback terrapins to determine whether nesting habitat could be increased by using dredged bottom *** year 1,unshaded nests in natural loamy-sand had the highest hatching success(55.2%),while nests in dredge soil produced no *** year 2,nests in unshaded loamy-sand had a hatching success of 85.3%,whereas those in dredge soil,aged 1 year,had a hatching success of 59.4%.Dredge soil improved as an incubation substrate after aging 1 year by the washout of *** temperatures were generally cool and produced mostly male *** dredge soil may provide suitable nesting substrates for diamondback terrapins if used after one year,and may be particularly beneficial if used for constructing islands that provide new nesting sites with reduced access of mammalian predators.

AIM： To investigate overlapping regions of the rpoB gene previously involved with rifamycin resistance in M. tuberculosis and seek correlation between rpoB mutations in dinical MAP strains with susceptibility to RIf and RfB. METHODS： We designed a molecular-based PCR method for the evaluation of rifabutin （RfB） and rifampicin （RIf） resistance based on probable determinant regions within the rpoB gene of MAP, including the 81 bp variable site located between nucleotides 1363 and 1443. The minimum inhibitory concentration （MIC） for RIf was also determined against 11 MAP isolates in attempt to seek correlation with rpoB sequences. RESULTS： We determined that MAP strain 18 had an MIC of 〉 30 mg/L and ≤ 5 mg/L for RIf and RfB respectively, and a significant and novel rpoB mutation C1367T, compared to an MIC of ≤ 1.0 mg/L for both drugs in the wild type MAP. The 30-fold increase in the MIC was a direct result of the rpoB mutation C1367T, which caused an amino acid change Thr456 to Ile456 in the drug＇s binding site. In addition, MAP strain 185 contained five silent rpoB mutations and exhibited an MIC comparable to the wild-type. Moreover, our in vitro selected mutation in MAP strain UCf5 resulted in the generation of a new resistant strain （UCf5-RIf16r） that possessed T1442C rpoB mutation and an MIC 〉 30 mg/L and 〉 10 mg/L for RIf and RfB respectively. Sequencing of the entire rpoB gene in MAP strains UCf4, 18, and UCf5-RIf16r revealed an rpoB mutation A2284C further downstream of the 81 bp variable region in UCf4, accounting for observed slight increase in MIC. In addition, no other significant mutations were found in strains 18 and UCf-RIf16r. CONCLUSION： The data clearly illustrates that clinical and in vitro-selected MAP mutants with rpoB mutations result in resistance to RIf and RfB, and that a single amino acid change in the beta subunit may have a significant impact on RIf resistance. AIM:To evaluate gastrointestinal(GI) symptoms and breath hydrogen responses to oral fructose-sorbitol(f-S) and glucose challenges in eating disorder(ED) ***:GI symptoms and hydrogen breath concentration were monitored in 26 female ED inpatients for 3 h,following ingestion of 50 g glucose on one day,and 25 g fructose/5 g sorbitol on the next day,after an overnight fast on each *** to f-S were compared to those of 20 asymptomatic healthy ***:f-S provoked GI symptoms in 15 ED patients and one healthy control(P f-S response) .A greater symptom response was observed in ED patients with a body mass index(BMI) ≤ 17.5 kg/m 2 compared to those with a BMI > 17.5 kg/m 2(P fferences in psychological scores,prevalence of functional GI disorders or breath hydrogen responses between patients with and without an f-S ***:f-S,but not glucose,provokes GI symptoms in ED patients,predominantly those with low *** findings are important in the dietary management of ED patients.

Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) is an extremely prevalent but poorly understood gastrointestinal disorder. Consequently, there are no clear diagnostic markers to help diagnose the disorder and treatment options are limited to management of the symptoms. The concept of a dysregulated gut-brain axis has been adopted as a suitable model for the disorder. The gut microbiome may play an important role in the onset and exacerbation of symptoms in the disorder and has been extensively studied in this context. Although a causal role cannot yet be inferred from the clinical studies which have attempted to characterise the gut microbiota in IBS, they do confirm alterations in both community stability and diversity. Moreover, it has been reliably demonstrated that manipulation of the microbiota can influence the key symptoms, including abdominal pain and bowel habit, and other prominent features of IBS. A variety of strategies have been taken to study these interactions, including probiotics, antibiotics, faecal transplantations and the use of germ-free animals. There are clear mechanisms through which the microbiota can produce these effects, both humoral and neural. Taken together, these findings firmly establish the microbiota as a critical node in the gut-brain axis and one which is amenable to therapeutic interventions.

The breeding system and its consequence on fruit set of Eremosparton songoricum（Litv.） Vass.,a rare shrubby legume occurring in moving or semi-fixed sand dunes of Central Asian deserts,were examined by manipulative experiments and observational studies in natural populations during the period of *** results showed that *** exhibits a mixed mating *** is self-compatible,but depends strictly on pollinators to set *** two effective pollinators were detected and they triggered the specialized pollination mechanism（a ＇brush type＇ and ＇tripping mechanism＇）.Geitonogamy becomes predominant in natural populations,because（74.5±1.3）% of visiting activity happened within or between inflorescences and（24.3±1.4）% occurred between *** a result,inbreeding depression caused by geitonogamous selfing inevitably happened under natural conditions,showing 2.36 times less fruit set than was achieved by hand *** results explained the rarity of the species due to its breeding system,and will assist to develop suitable conservation strategies in severe desert environments.

BACKGROUND Traditionally, the mortality rate at 1-year post hip fracture was quoted as approximately 30% of all hip fractures. There have been recent improvements in hip fracture care in the main driven by national hip fracture registries with reductions in 30-d mortality rates *** To address recent 1-year post hip fracture mortality rates in the *** Systematic literature review, national hip fracture registries/databases, local studies on hip fracture mortality, 5 years limitation(2013-2017), cohorts > 100,studies in English. Outcome measure: Mortality rate at 1-year post hip *** Recent 1-year mortality rates were reviewed using the literature from 8 National Registries and 36 different countries. Recently published 1-year mortality rates appear lower than traditional figures and may represent a downward *** There appears to be a consistent worldwide reduction in mortality at 1-year post hip fracture compared to previously published research. Globally, those which suffer hip fractures may currently be benefiting from the results of approximately 30 years of national registries, rigorous audit processes and international collaboration. The previously quoted mortality rates of 10% at 1-mo and 30% at 1-year may be outdated.

Purpose:This study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of load-velocity(L-V)relationship variables obtained through the 2-point method using different load combinations and velocity ***:Twenty men performed 2 identical sessions consisting of 2 countermovement jumps against 4 external loads(20 kg,40 kg,60 kg,and80 kg)and a heavy squat against a load linked to a mean velocity(MV)of 0.55 m/s(load_(0.55)).The L-V relationship variables(load-axis intercept(L_(0)),velocity-axis intercept(v_(0)),and area under the L-V relationship line(A_(line)))were obtained using 3 velocity variables(MV,mean propulsive velocity(MPV),and peak velocity)by the multiple-point method including(20-40-60-80-load_(0.55))and excluding(20-40-60-80)the heavy squat,as well as from their respective 2-point methods(20-load_(0.55)and 20-80).Results:The L-V relationship variables were obtained with an acceptable reliability(coefncient of variation(CV)≤7.30%;intra-class correlation coefficient>0.63).The reliability of L_(0)and v_(0)was comparable for both methods(CV_(ratio)(calculated as higher value/lower value):1.11-1.12),but the multiple-point method provided Al_(ine)with a greater reliability(CV_(ratio)=1.26).The use of a heavy squat provided the L-V relationship variables with a comparable or higher reliability than the use of a heavy countermovement jump load(CV_(ratio):1.06-1.19).The peak velocity provided the load-velocity relationship variables with the greatest reliability(CV_(ratio):1.15-1.86)followed by the MV(CV_(ratio):1.07-1.18),and finally the *** 2-point methods only revealed an acceptable validity for the MV and MPV(effect size≤0.19;Pearson s product-moment correlation coefficient≥0.96;Lin's concordance correlation coefficient≥0.94).Conclusion:The 2-point method obtained from a heavy squat load and MV or MPV is a quick,safe,and reliable procedure to evaluate the lower-body maximal neuromuscular capacities through the L-V relationship.
