Purpose:To describe the development of a Compendium for estimating the energy costs of activities in adults>60 years(OA Compendium).Methods:Physical activities(PAs)and their metabolic equivalent of task(MeT)values were obtained from a systematic search of studies published in 4 sport and exercise databases(PubMed,embase,SPORTDiscus(eBSCOhost),and Scopus)and a review of articles included in the 2011 Adult Compendium that measured PA in older *** values were computed as the oxygen cost(VO_(2),mL/kg/min)during PA divided by 2.7 m L/kg/min(MeT_(60+))to account for the lower resting metabolic rate in older ***:We identified 68 articles and extracted energy expenditure data on 427 *** these,we derived 99 unique Specific Activity codes with corresponding MeT_(60+)values for older *** developed a website to present the OA Compendium MeT_(60+)values:https://***:The OA Compendium uses data collected from adults>60 years for more accurate estimation of the energy cost of PAs in older *** is an accessible resource that will allow researchers,educators,and practitioners to find MeT_(60+)values for older adults for use in PA research and practice.

evaluation of a Wireless Solar Powered Personal Weather Station

We are evaluating dryland cotton production in Martin County, Texas, measuring cotton lint yield per unit of rainfall. Our goal is to collect rainfall data per 250 - 400 ha. Upon selection of a rainfall gauge, we realized that the cost of using, for example, a tipping bucket-type rain gauge would be too expensive and thus searched for an alternative method. We selected an all-in-one commercially available weather station;hereafter, referred to as a Personal Weather Station (PWS) that is both wireless and solar powered. Our objective was to evaluate average measurements of rainfall obtained with the PWS and to compare these to measurements obtained with an automatic weather station (AWS). For this purpose, we installed four PWS deployed within 20 m of the Plant Stress and Water Conservation Meteorological Tower that was used as our AWS, located at USDA-ARS Cropping Systems Research Laboratory, Lubbock, TX. In addition, we measured and compared hourly average values of short-wave irradiance (Rg), air temperature (Tair) and relative humidity (RH), and wind speed (WS), and calculated values of dewpoint temperature (Tdew). This comparison was done over a 242-day period (1 October 2022-31 May 2023) and results indicated that there was no statistical difference in measurements of rainfall between the PWS and AWS. Hourly average values of Rg measured with the PWS and AWS agreed on clear days, but PWS measurements were higher on cloudy days. There was no statistical difference between PWS and AWS hourly average measurements of Tair, RH, and calculated Tdew. Hourly average measurements of Rg and WS were more variable. We concluded that the PWS we selected will provide adequate values of rainfall and other weather variables to meet our goal of evaluating dryland cotton lint yield per unit rainfall.

The study of the relationship between animal stress and personality for free-ranging animals is limited and provides contrasting *** perception of stressors by an individual may vary due to its personality,and certain personality traits may help individuals to better cope with *** non-invasive infrared thermography(IRT),we investigated the link between physiological and behavioral components expressed during an acute stress event by free-ranging Fremont’s squirrels(Tamiasciurus fremonti).We expected that,during the acute stress event of being approached by the researcher,individuals that showed a fast pace-of-life syndrome(bolder,more active,and less social/more aggressive)based on an arena test would exhibit stronger sympathetic-adrenal-medullary system reactivity showing a more intense stress-induced hyperthermia(high core body temperature and low peripheral temperature)than individuals with a slow pace of life(shy,less active,and more social).We successfully employed IRT technology to images of Fremont’s squirrels with identification of the individuals’body parts(eye,nose,ear,hind foot).However,we found no support for our ***’body surface temperatures told us more about a squirrel’s external environment and less about the thermal state of the body in that environment following a stressful *** studies need to assess how to make IRT effective and efficient in the field and improve its performance in studying the relationships between physiology and personality in wildlife.

Assessment of the performance of the TOPGNSS and ANN-MB antennas for ionospheric measurements using low-cost u-blox GNSS receivers

Low-cost GNSS receivers have recently been gaining reliability as good candidates for ionospheric studies. In line with these gains are genuine concerns about improving the performance of these receivers. In this work, we present a comprehensive investigation of the performances of two antennas(the u-blox ANN-MB and the TOPGNSS TOP-106) used on a low-cost GNSS receiver known as the u-blox ZeD-F9P. The two antennas were installed on two identical and co-located u-blox receivers. Data used from both receivers cover the period from January to June 2022. Results from the study indicate that the signal strengths are dominantly greater for the receiver with the TOPGNSS antenna than for the receiver with the ANN-MB antenna, implying that the TOPGNSS antenna is better than the ANN-MB antenna in terms of providing greater signal strengths. Summarily, the TOPGNSS antenna also performed better in minimizing the occurrence of cycle slips on phase TeC measurements. There are no conspicuous differences between the variances(computed as 5-min standard deviations) of phase TeC measurements for the two antennas, except for a period around May-June when the TOPGNSS gave a better performance in terms of minimizing the variances in phase TeC. Remarkably, the ANN-MB antenna gave a better performance than the TOPGNSS antenna in terms of minimizing the variances in pseudorange TeC for some satellite observations. For precise horizontal(North and east) positioning, the receiver with the TOPGNSS antenna gave better results, while the receiver with the ANN-MB antenna gave better vertical(Up) positioning. The errors for the receivers of both antennas are typically within about 5 m(the monthly mean was usually smaller than 1 m) in the horizontal direction and within about 10 m(the monthly mean was usually smaller than 4 m) in the vertical direction.

The Quantum Microverse: A Prime Number Framework for Understanding the Universe

This study aims to demonstrate a proof of concept for a novel theory of the universe based on the Fine Structure Constant (α), derived from n-dimensional prime number property sets, specifically α = 137 and α = 139. The FSC Model introduces a new perspective on the fundamental nature of our universe, showing that α = 137.036 can be calculated from these prime property sets. The Fine Structure Constant, a cornerstone in Quantum electrodynamics (QeD) and Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), implies an underlying structure. This study identifies this mathematical framework and demonstrates how the FSC model theory aligns with our current understanding of physics and cosmology. The results unveil a hierarchy of α values for twin prime pairs U{3/2} through U{199/197}. These values, represented by their fraction parts α♊ (e.g., 0.036), define the relative electromagnetic forces driving quantum energy systems. The lower twin prime pairs, such as U{3/2}, exhibit higher eM forces that decrease as the twin pairs increase, turning dark when they drop below the α♊ for light. The results provide classical definitions for Baryonic Matter/energy, Dark Matter, Dark energy, and Antimatter but mostly illustrate how the combined α♊ values for three adjacent twin primes, U{7/5/3/2} mirrors the strong nuclear force of gluons holding quarks together.

黄土高原黄土-古土壤序列中保存有丰富的土壤碳酸盐,是利用碳酸盐团簇同位素(Δ_(47))定量重建古温度的重要地质载体之一。然而,黄土高原全新世土壤碳酸盐Δ_(47)及其气候指示意义的系统研究仍然缺乏。本研究分析了黄土高原南缘渭南剖面和中部洛川剖面上部3 m沉积中保存的全新世土壤碳酸盐(钙结核)的团簇同位素组成,监测了现在地形条件下距地表4 m以内不同深度的土壤温度。结果显示,Δ_(47)定量重建的全新世土壤碳酸盐团簇同位素温度(T_(47))与现代暖季节温度相近,渭南剖面T_(47)平均值约为25℃,洛川剖面约为18℃,较区域年均温高8~10℃。根据T_(47)和土壤碳酸盐氧同位素组成(δ18O)重建的土壤水δ18O也与暖季节降水的δ18O基本一致,这些数据表明黄土高原土壤碳酸盐记录了暖季节的环境信息。值得注意的是,渭南和洛川剖面钙结核T_(47)值与其形成深度的土壤温度基本吻合,结合前人研究结果,这暗示了土壤碳酸盐形成深度对其T_(47)具有显著影响。因此,在将来土壤碳酸盐Δ_(47)的研究中,评估土壤碳酸盐形成深度至关重要。
