Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease with an etiopathogenesis that is still unclear. With a higher incidence in women of childbearing age. Pregnancy in patients suffering from this pathology is a constant challenge for multidisciplinary teams. The changes of pregnancy, especially to the immune system and the kidney, have repercussions on the renal compromise secondary to lupus. Lupus nephropathy is more active during pregnancy and leads to adverse outcomes for the mother-fetus binomial. The early identification of pregnant women with a higher risk of complications, access to health resources and the participation of a multidisciplinary team is the strategy that increases maternal-fetal survival. A report case of a 25-year-old black female with SLE and a 10-week pregnancy who was admitted to the emergency department with criteria for dialysis. The literature focused on lupus nephritis and dialysis in pregnancy was reviewed. Articles were reviewed in databases such as PubMed, Cochrane, among others, focused on the topic of pregnancy with SLE and pregnancy with dialysis. A total of 15 review articles, 2 meta-analyses, 3 observational studies and 6 cohort studies (3 prospective and 3 retrospective) were filtered.

The Maasai ostrich (Struthio camelus) is a the largest avian species in East Africa and though it’s not considered to be a species of conservation concern, some populations are on the decline and this is attributed to bush meat activities, predation on their eggs illegal consumption by humans, habitat destruction and forage competition with other large wildlife species. Climate change is also emerging to be another major threat due to interference with food availability which in turn interferes with the breeding rhythm. Thus, this study examined the population status, trend and distribution of the Maasai ostrich in the Southern Kenya and Northern Tanzania borderland after the 2007 to 2009 drought. The results showed that the species was found across the entire borderland but the Amboseli region had the highest number and density of Maasai ostrich (726.00 ± 100.9;0.08 ± 0.01 ostriches per km2), followed by Lake Natron area (330.8 ± 69.8;0.05 ± 0.01 ostriches per km2) and the least was in West Kilimanjaro (85.5 ± 18.0;0.03 ± 0.01 ostriches per km2). Drought caused a decline in the population of the Maasai ostrich but the Amboseli area experienced the highest decline in density (?13.44 ± 12.61) compared to other borderland sectors. However, the populations increased in most sectors after the drought, and wet season numbers and densities were higher than the dry season. The highest positive increase in number and density was in Lake Natron area (+85.65 ± 91.06) followed by West Kilimanjaro (+68.39 ± 59.54), and the least was in the Magadi area (+22.26 ± 32.05). There is a need to enhance conservation of avian species like the Maasai ostrich other than just focusing on the charismatic species such as the African elephant and black rhino. Background: Systemic immunosuppression is a significant risk factor for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). p53 is mutated and overexpressed in up to 90% of cutaneous SCC lesions. Despite considerable evidence that the immune response is important in the control of cutaneous SCC, there are no studies documenting potential tumour- associated antigens. Objectives: We tested the hypothesis that individualswith cutaneous SCC have functional circulating CD8+ T cells specific for p53. Methods: Interferon- γ immunosorbent assays were used to screen peripheral blood mononuclear cells for reactivity to six p53- derived HLA- A 0201- restricted epitopes from HLA- A 0201- positive patients and controls. Results: We observed significantly elevated frequencies of p53- specific CD8+ T cells in seven of 26 individuals with cutaneous SCC and in one of 10 controls. The degree of lymphocytic infiltrate significantly correlated with the frequency of CD8+ T cells specific for p53 epitopes, but not with control epitopes. Conclusions: Overall, these data suggest that p53 may represent a target for CD8+ T cells in a proportion of individuals with cutaneous SCC.

目的开发并验证一个新的糖尿病风险模型（QDScore），用来估计10年内获得糖尿病诊断的风险，该模型的基础建立于多样化的种族和社会经济地位人群。设计前瞻性开放性队列研究，使用的数据常规收集于355个英格兰和威尔士全科诊所，然后使用176个独立诊所的数据来验证这一评分。参与者该推导模型共包括2540753例患者，年龄25—79岁，产生16436315患者年，其中78081例为新诊断2型糖尿病；验证队列包括1232832例患者（7643037患者年），其中37535例患者为新发2型糖尿病。结局评估指标用Cox比例风险模型估计建立队列中风险因子的效应，并且在男性和女件中推导出一个风险公式。终模型中包括的检验预测变量有：自我报告的种族、年龄、性别、体重指数、吸烟状态、糖尿病家族史、Townsend剥夺评分、已接受治疗的高血压、心血管疾病和口前使用糖皮质激素；关注的结局评估指标是在全科诊所记录中新发生的糖尿病。校正和区分度的测定在验证队列中进行计算。结果不同种族间2型糖尿病的风险存在4到5倍的变异。与白人参照组相比，巴基斯坦女性的调整风险比为4．07（95％可信区间3．24～5．11），巴基斯坦男性为2．54（2．20～2．93）。巴基斯坦和盂加拉困男性与印度男性相对风险比显著增高。非洲黑人男性和中国女性与对应的白人参照组相比风险增加。在验证数据中，该模型解释了51．53％的女性差异（95％可信区间50．90～52．16）和48．16％的男性差异（47．52～48．80）。风险积分显示了良好的区分能力，女性中D值达2．11（95％可信区间2．08～2．14），男性中为1．97（1．95～2．00）。模型经过很好的校正。结论 QDScore是第一个基于前瞻性队列研究并且包括了社会等级和种族来预测糖尿病10年风险的风险预测模型。该模型不需要实验室检查，并且可以应用于临床实践，另外，还可以通过一个简单的网络计算器为公众所用（***）。

中国传统文化价值观讲究"国家"、"家庭"、"父母"、"师长"优先于个人。本研究以"美国人眼中的中国"大型国际调研数据为基础,通过对涉及中国传统文化价值观的8个问题与人口学属性(性别、年龄、受教育程度、收入、种族、党派归属)和媒介接触频率进行回归分析后发现:受教育程度高者及黑人/非洲裔美国民众对中国传统文化价值观的认同度相对较低,而保守党人士及较多通过广播收听新闻的美国民众对中国传统文化价值观的认同度较高。由此导出,在中国国际形象塑造和对美文化交流中,应该注重"分众"传播。

Effects of coat colour genes on body measurements, heat tolerance traits and haematological parameters in West African Dwarf sheep

With 178 West African Dwarf sheep aged 1 to 3 years, a study was conducted to investigate the effects of coat colour genes on body measurements, heat tolerance traits and haematological parameters. Body measurements considered included body length, hair length, ear length, hip width, tail length, height at withers, rump height, fore cannon bone length, chest depth, heart girth and body weight. Heat tolerance traits considered were skin temperature, rectal temperature, pulse rate and respiratory rate. Blood samples were collected for the evaluation of white blood cell (WBC), red blood cell (RBC), haemoglobin (HGB), haematocrit (HCT), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular haemoglobin cell (MCHC), red cell distribution width (RDW), platelets (PLT), mean platelets volume (MPV), platelets distribution width (PDW) and plateletcrits (PCT). Results showed that coat colour gene (CCG) had significant (P black (BB) coat colour had the highest mean value for rump height (57.80 ± 1.29 cm) and tail length (22.10 ± 0.89 cm), while brown (Bb) coat colour had the least value of 53.00 ± 6.00 cm for rump height and 17.50 ± 0.50 cm for tail length. The CCG had significant (P < 0.01) effect on body temperature and pulse rate, with the grey/mouflon (Ag) colour possessing the highest body temperature (38.90°C ± 0.22°C), and Bb having the least value of 37.20°C ± 0.35°C. White/tan (Awt) had the highest pulse rate of 28.90 ± 0.66 beats/min and Bb had the least value of 20.00 ± 2.00 beats/min. The CCG had significant (P < 0.01) effect on RBC and MPV with brown (Bb) colour having the highest RBC counts (18.20 ± 0.00 L) and badgerface (Ab) having the least value (11.50 ± 0.62 L). The Bb had the highest value (5.60 ± 0.00 fL) for MPV and Ab had the least value (4.70 ± 0.15 fL). Sheep with Bb and Ab were found to withstand heat stress better than others.
