Biogeochemially reactive inorganic mercury (RHg) is an important fraction of Hg. Researchers have attempted to measure RHg when characterizing Hg-impacted sites, conducting research and development of remediation practices, or evaluating remediation efficiency. In these uses, RHg will be the best choice for analysis in ways that total methyl, and other species of Hg cannot duplicate. The fraction has been inadequately measured using the Sn2+ reduction method and operationally defined as “Sn2+ reducible Hg2+”, but the resulting data did not reflect well the nature of the fraction and caused researchers to lose interest, thus limiting the use of RHg in past years. In this work, the problems of using the Sn2+ reduction method were discovered to be generating irreproducible and negatively biased results. Negative bias from 20% to 99% was found in different types of waters. To obtain reliable results, an ethylation-based GC-CVAFS method was used to determine RHg. The performance of the method was evaluated by comparing it to the Sn2+ reduction method. Biogeochemically meaningful results have been obtained in the application of the method to determine RHg in mercury mine-impacted waters from the Idrijca River in Slovenia.

Tropomyosin receptor kinase B(TrkB)signaling plays a pivotal role in dendritic growth and dendritic spine formation to promote learning and *** activity-dependent release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor at synapses binds to pre-or postsynaptic TrkB resulting in the strengthening of synapses,reflected by long-term ***,the association of postsynaptic density protein-95 with TrkB enhances phospholipase Cγ-Ca^(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinaseⅡand phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-mechanistic target of rapamycin signaling required for long-term *** this review,we discuss TrkB-postsynaptic density protein-95 coupling as a promising strategy to magnify brain-derived neurotrophic factor signaling towards the development of novel therapeutics for specific neurological disorders.A reduction of TrkB signaling has been observed in neurodegenerative disorders,such as Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease,and enhancement of postsynaptic density protein-95 association with TrkB signaling could mitigate the observed deficiency of neuronal connectivity in schizophrenia and *** with brain-derived neurotrophic factor is problematic,due to poor pharmacokinetics,low brain penetration,and side effects resulting from activation of the p75 neurotrophin receptor or the truncated TrkB.T1 *** TrkB agonists and antibodies that activate TrkB are being intensively investigated,they cannot distinguish the multiple human TrkB splicing isoforms or cell type-specific *** TrkB–postsynaptic density protein-95 coupling provides an alternative approach to specifically boost TrkB signaling at localized synaptic sites versus global stimulation that risks many adverse side effects.

Human activities are a triggering factor for landslides in the Yellow River Basin(YRB,China).However,the extent to which the spatial distribution of landslides is affected by human activities is *** constructed a human activity intensity index(HAII)based on nighttime light data and land cover *** and dominance analyses were used to compare the effects of the HAII,precipitation,distance to river,distance to fault,topographic relief and slope on the landslides spatial density(LSD).The results showed that in the YRB,the HAII,as a dominance influencing factor,had a significant positive influence on the ***,regional differences in the human disturbance of nature intensify the spatial variation of *** quantify the intensity of human disturbance to nature,a human-nature conflict index(HNCI)is constructed by quantifying the difference between the slope distributions of artificial and natural *** results show that in the middle section of the YRB,humans are developing more steep mountainous areas,leading to more dense *** study provides a reference for landslide risk management and land use planning in the YRB.

AIM:To evaluate the demographics,clinical characteristics,treatments,and outcomes of patients with ocular surface squamous neoplasia(OSSN)at the Philippine General ***:This was a single-center,11-year retrospective,cross sectional case series on 18 cases of OSSN seen between January 2012 to June *** patient’s demographics,presenting symptoms,tumor characteristics,histopathologic diagnosis,treatment,outcomes,and duration of follow-up were ***:Out of 33 identified cases of OSSN,only 18 were eligible for inclusion in the *** age was 60.78y(range 31 to 80),with male predominance(66.67%).The left eye was most commonly affected(61.11%)with most presenting with fleshy mass(83.33%).Most tumors were located nasally(66.67%)and were predominantly papilliform(44.44%)in morphology with associated hyperpigmentation(38.89%).Squamous cell carcinoma(SCCA)was the most common histopathologic diagnosis(72.22%).The main primary treatment was surgical excision(94.44%)with or without adjunctive therapy,with only 1 patient undergoing first-line topical *** 3 recurrences(16.67%)were noted with a median followup of 7.5mo.A statistically significant recurrence-free odds leaning towards the utilization of cryotherapy was ***:OSSN seen at the Philippine General Hospital is presented as a limbal papilliform mass,most commonly affecting elderly *** excision with adjuvant cryotherapy and/or chemotherapy is the preferred mode of treatment.
