The aim o. this research is to.p.o.ide a p.eliminary assessment o. the p.rfo.mance o. a co.p.ex watershed mo.el in p.edicting stream flo. o. the Naro.Mo.u river catchment in Ewaso.Ng’iro.river basin, Kenya. The research invo.ved mo.el inp.t data p.ep.ratio., mo.el set up.and test running, sensitivity analysis and cali- bratio. o. the So.l Water Assessment To.l (SWAT) mo.el. p.eliminary evaluatio. o. the mo.el p.rfo.mance invo.ved the use o. kno.n quantitative evaluatio. statistics that included co.relatio. co.fficient, Nash Sut- cliffe efficiency (NSE), Deviatio. Vo.ume (Dv) and a grap.ical technique fo. co.p.ring o.served and simu- lated flo.s. Initial mo.el runs yielded p.o. daily flo. simulatio.s co.p.red to.mo.thly simulatio.s. p.o. daily simulatio. was attributed to.differences in the timing o. o.served and simulated hydro.rap.s. The mo.el was calibrated fo. a three year p.rio. fo.lo.ed by a three year validatio. p.rio. based o. mo.thly flo.s. Calibratio. results indicated an accep.able, but mo.est, agreement between o.served and simulated mo.thly stream flo.s with a co.relatio. co.fficient (r) o. abo.t 0.7, NSE = 5%, and Dv= 61.7%. After vali- datio., the mo.el p.rfo.mance was satisfacto.y with the co.fficient o. determinatio. (R2 ≈ 0.6), Nash-Sut- cliffe efficiency (NSE) o. 0.51 and a deviatio. vo.ume (Dv) value o. 24.7%. The mo.est mo.el p.rfo.mance was asso.iated with inp.t data deficiencies and mo.el limitatio.s. Even then, the results indicate that the mo.el can p.ssibly be adap.ed to.the lo.al co.ditio.s in the catchment fo. which it is being ap.lied but with imp.o.ements invo.ving better p.rameter calibratio. techniques, and co.lectio. o. better quality data. Drilling in areas witho.t p.io. kno.ledge abo.t their gro.ndwater p.tential has been leading to.the drilling o. numero.s dry bo.eho.es. In this study, we exp.o.ed the use o. Geo.rap.ic Info.matio. System as a p.e-analysis to.l to.identify zo.es with gro.ndwater p.tential fo. Garissa Co.ntry. Facto.s that co.tributed to.gro.ndwater o.currence were identified as landco.er, so.l typ. and ro.k fo.matio.. The gro.ndwater p.tential zo.es were generated by analysing thematic data o. the three facto.s and integrating the musing Weighted Index o.erlay Analysis (WIo.) metho.. The gro.ndwater p.tential zo.es were validated by co.p.ring the p.edicted p.tentials with actual yields o. existing bo.eho.es drilled within tho.e areas. Results indicate that, whereas the mo.el co.rectly p.edicted areas with lo. o. no.gro.ndwater p.tential, it p.rfo.med sp.ringly well when p.edicting areas with go.d gro.ndwater p.tential. The study co.clusively identified areas where gro.ndwater p.o.p.cting sho.ld no. be attemp.ed and o.her alternative metho.s o. surface water p.o.isio. sho.ld be exp.o.ed.

The van Genuchten mo.sture retentio. equatio. was fitted to.measured mo.sture retentio. p.o.0}rties o.tained fro. Internatio.al So.l Reference and Info.matio. Centre (ISRIC) so.ls data base in o.der to.determine p.rameters in the equatio. i.e. saturated so.l mo.sture co.tent (θs), residual so.l mo.sture (θr), air entry p.rameter (α) and the p.re size distributio. p.rameter (n). 457 samp.es drawn fro. the data base were used to.be the maximum p.ssible samp.e size that co.tained the measured so.ls characteristics data required. Using statistical regressio., mathematical relatio.ship. were develo.0}d between mo.sture retentio. p.rameters (resp.nse variables) and ap.ro.0}iately selected transfo.med basic so.l p.o.0}rties (p.edicto. variables). So.l Water Retentio. Characteristics (SWRC) mo.els have been widely used in many ap.licatio.s. p.esently, there are many mo.els in the literature and many mo.e still being develo.0}d so.much so.that it is co.fusing which mo.el to.p.efer. The current cho.ce o. the ap.ro.0}iate mo.el to.use has no. been well guided by any incisive research o. the p.edictive p.rfo.mance o. these mo.els. Co.sequently, SWRC mo.el ap.licatio.s have been largely mo.ed by co.venience. This study used a glo.al dataset to.evaluate 12 co.mo.ly used SWRC mo.els. The measured data o.to.which the mo.els were evaluated was gro.p.d into.different so.l dep.hs and different regio.s o. the wo.ld. The evaluatio. used co.relatio., Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency, and residual standard erro. statistics to.cho.se the best o.erall p.rfo.ming mo.el and mo.els fo. each catego.y. It gives an indicatio. o. the typ. o. SWRC mo.els to.use in different regio.s o. the wo.ld and dep.hs o. samp.ing. The suitability o. the mo.els to.regio.s sho.ed that the Fredlund and Xing mo.el had the best p.rfo.mance in subso.ls in Africa;o.uto.in So.thern Asia;and van Genuchten in subso.ls o. the o.her regio.s. Intro.uctio.: Cancer is a chro.ic debilitating disease that unnerves p.tients, co.munities, and natio.s. At so.e p.int in cancer p.tient’s disease exp.rience, chemo.herap. is used, and the p.tient is exp.cted to.adhere to.treatment to.imp.o.e survival and quality o. life. Metho.s: This multisite Cluster Rando.ized Trial (CRT) evaluated the effectiveness o. mo.ile p.o.e Sho.t Message Service (SMS) sup.o.t o. the adherence to.treatment schedules amo.g adult cancer p.tients in Kenya. Data was co.lected using questio.naires. Ethical ap.ro.als were o.tained fro. relevant Ethical Review Bo.rds (ERBs). Results: The mean adherence was 83%. There was a significant difference between treatment arms in relatio. to.the adherence. The interventio. arm had a higher mean adherence difference, M = 3.913, 95% CI 2.632-5.193, t (402) = 6.006, p.≤ 0.001), with Co.en’s d = 0.60. Altho.gh no. significant, (χp.2p.dd = 0.151, df = 1, p.= 2.064), mo.e wo.en were p.rfect adheres than males. p.rfect adherers were satisfied with SMS sup.o.t (χp.2p.dd = 7.620, df = 1, p.= 0.06), were in the interventio. arm (χp.2p.dd = 22.942, df = 1, p.≤ 0.001), and had trust in the care p.o.ider (χp.2p.dd = 10.591 p.≤ 0.001). SMS sup.o.t was no. significant in the multivariate analysis but had an estimated effect size o. 0.958 (z = 1.424, p.= 0.154, CI = 0.242-3.781), indicating that mean adherence was slightly better in the p.esence o. the interventio.. Co.clusio.s: SMS-sup.o.t interventio. has demo.strated sup.rio.ity in influencing adherence. Further, health system-related facto.s have a significant influence o. the adherence to.chemo.herap. treatment. Interventio.s to.re-design health systems that are resp.nsive to.unmet care needs o. cancer p.tients must be exp.o.ed. .
