Liver stiffness in pregnant women with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy:A case control study

Improved data gap-filling schemes for estimation of net ecosystem exchange in typical East-Asian croplands

The estimation of carbon exchange between ecosystems and the atmosphere suffers unavoidable data gaps in eddy-covariance technique, especially for short-living and fast-growing croplands. In this study we developed a modified gap-filling scheme introducing a leaf area index factor as the vegetation status information based on the conventional light response function for two East-Asian cropland sites (rice and potatoes). This scheme’s performance is comparable to the conventional time window scheme, but has the advantage when the gaps are large compared to the total length of the time series. To investigate how the time binning approach performs for fast-growing croplands, we tested different widths of the time window, showing that a four-day window for the potato field and an eight-day time window for the rice field perform the best. The insufficiency of the conventional temperature binning approach was explained as well as the influence of vapor pressure deficit. We found that vapor pressure deficit plays a minor role in both the potato and the rice fields under Asian monsoon weather conditions with the exception of the early pre-monsoon growing stage of the potatoes. Consequently, we recommend using the conventional time-window scheme together with our new leaf-light response function to fill data gaps of net ecosystem exchange in fast-growing croplands.

Additive manufacturing has received attention for the fabrication of medical implants that have customized and complicated *** Zn metals are revolutionary materials for orthopedic *** this study,pure Zn porous scaffolds with diamond structures were fabricated using customized laser powder bed fusion(L-PBF)***,the mechanical properties,corrosion behavior,and biocompatibility of the pure Zn porous scaffolds were characterized in *** scaffolds were then implanted into the rabbit femur critical-size bone defect model for 24 *** results showed that the pure Zn porous scaffolds had compressive strength and rigidity comparable to those of cancellous bone,as well as relatively suitable degradation rates for bone regeneration.A benign host response was observed using hematoxylin and eosin(HE)staining of the heart,liver,spleen,lungs,and ***,the pure Zn porous scaffold showed good biocompatibility and osteogenic promotion ability in *** study showed that pure Zn porous scaffolds with customized structures fabricated using L-PBF represent a promising biodegradable solution for treating large bone defects.

Optical near-field imaging and nanostructuring by means of laser ablation

In this review we consider the development of optical near-field imaging and nanostructuring by means of laser ablation since its early stages around the turn of the *** interaction of short,intense laser pulses with nanoparticles on a surface leads to laterally tightly confined,strongly enhanced electromagnetic fields below and around the nano-objects,which can easily give rise to *** effect can be exploited for structuring substrate surfaces on a length scale well below the diffraction limit,one to two orders smaller than the incident laser *** report on structure formation by the optical near field of both dielectric and metallic nano-objects,the latter allowing even stronger and more localized enhancement of the electromagnetic field due to the excitation of plasmon *** with this method enables one to nanopattern large areas in a one-step parallel process with just one laser pulse irradiation,and in the course of time various improvements have been added to this technique,so that also more complex and even arbitrary structures can be produced by means of *** near-field patterns generated on the surface can be read out with high resolution techniques like scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy and provide thus a valuable tool-in conjunction with numerical calculations like finite difference time domain(FDTD)simulations-for a deeper understanding of the optical and plasmonic properties of nanostructures and their applications.

The Food and Agriculture Organization is developing a concept based multilingual vocabulary management tool to manage thesauri, authority lists and glossaries expressed as concept schemes ready to be used in a linked data environment. In this paper, we described the evolution of the AGROVOC thesaurus to AGROVOC Concept Scheme based on OWL （web ontology language） model and now shifting to SKOS （simple knowledge organization system） model. The paper explained why and how it evolved highlighting the key differences between different models. The system architecture and significant set of features available in the VocBench was discussed in the paper.

Different apoptotic reactions of dorsal root ganglion A- and B-cells after sciatic nerve axotomy： effect of p75 neurotrophin receptor

Background By unbiased stereological methods, we have observed preferential dorsal root ganglion （DRG） B-cell loss in rodents after nerve injury, and caspase-3 activation and cell loss were related to the present of p75 receptor （p75^NTR）. We hypothesized that DRG B-cells express higher levels of pro-apoptotic proteins as compared to A-cells and the expressions of pro-apoptotic proteins can be reduced by depletion of p75^NTR. This study aimed to identify the p75NTR involved apoptotic pathway in DRG neurons after nerve injury. Methods The p75NTR knockout mice （p75-/-） and wildtype Balb/C mice （p75＋/＋） were used in this study. The expressions of pro-apoptotic proteins, c-Jun-N-terminal kinase （JNK）, c-jun and p38 in DRG were evaluated with immunohistochemistry 2 and 7 days following unilateral sciatic nerve transection. In addition, extra-cellular related kinase （ERK）, a transducer of survival signals, was also tested with immunohistochemistry and Western blotting methods in these animal models. Results Phosphorylated JNK （P-JNK） and phosphorylated p38 （P-p38） were mainly located in small B-cells, whereas phosphorylated c-jun （P-c-jun） was located in both A- and B-cells. Phosphorylated ERK （P-ERK） was located in both B-cells and satellite cells. Axotomy dramatically increased the expressions of P-JNK and P-c-jun （paired t-test）, with no influence on the expressions of P-p38 and P-ERK. Furthermore, the increase of P-JNK in p75＋/＋ mice 2 days after nerve axotomy was approximately 2.2-folds of that in p75-/- mice （P=-0.001, unpaired t-test）. Conclusion p75NTR-dependent JNK-caspase-3 pathway is involved in DRG B-cell loss after nerve injury and JNK is not the unique upstream of c-jun activation.

Current treatment of ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic disease featuring re- current inflammation of the colonic mucosa. The goal of medical treatment is to rapidly induce a steroid-free remission while at the same time preventing complica- tions of the disease itself and its treatment. The choice of treatment depends on severity, localization and the course of the disease. For proctitis, topical therapy with 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) compounds is used. More extensive or severe disease should be treated with oral and local 5-ASA compounds and corticosteroids to induce remission. Patients who do not respond to this treatment require hospitalization. Intravenous steroids or, when refractory, calcineurin inhibitors (cyclosporine, tacrolimus), tumor necrosis factor-α antibodies (infliximab) or immunomodulators (azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine) are then called for. Indications for emergency surgery include refractory toxic megacolon, perforation, and continuous severe colorectal bleeding. Close collaboration between gastroenterologist and surgeon is mandatory in order not to delay surgical therapy when needed. This article is intended to give a general, practice-orientated overview of the key issues in ulcerative colitis treatment. Recommendations are based on published consensus guidelines derived from national and international guidelines on the treatment of ulcerative colitis.

1|INTRODUCTION Capecitabine is an oral prodrug of 5-fluorouracil(5-FU),which is widely used for adjuvant and neoadjuvant chemotherapy of different solid tumors,particularly breast and colorectal cancers.1 Neurotoxicity of capecitabine has been consistently reported as capecitabine-induced toxic leukoencephalopathy,which includes bilateral lesions in the corpus callosum and corticospinal tract presenting as acute or delayed central nervous system toxicity.2 This side effect requires discontinuation of chemotherapy3;however,neurological symptoms due to capecitabine are reported to be usually reversible upon drug withdrawal.

Wind is an environmental stimulus that stresses plants of all growth forms at all life-stages by influencing the development,architecture,and morphology of roots and ***,comparative studies are scarce and no study directly investigated whether shoot and root morphological traits of trees,grasses and forbs differ in their response to short wind pulses of different wind *** this study,we found that across species,wind stress by short wind pulses of increasing intensity consistently changed root morphology,but did not affect shoot morphological traits,except plant height in four *** effects in roots were generally weak in tree species but consistent across growth ***,plant height of species was correlated with changes in specific root length and average *** results indicate that short-pulse wind treatments affect root morphology more than shoot morphology across growth *** further suggest that wind stress possibly promotes root anchorage in young plants and that these effects might depend on plant height.
