Phototropism in land plants： Molecules and mechanism from light perception to response

BACKGROUNd： Phototropism is the response a plant exhibits when it is faced with a directional blue light stimulus. Though a seemingly simple differential cell elongation response within a responding tissue that results in organ curvature, phototropism is regulated through a complex set of signal perception and transduction events that move from the plasma membrane to the nucleus. In nature phototropism is one of several plant responses that have evolved to optimize photosynthesis and growth. OBJECTIVE： In the present work we will review the state of the field with respect to the molecules and mechanisms associated with phototropism in land plants. METHOdS： A systematic literature search was done to identify relevant advances in the field. Though we tried to focus on literature within the past decade （1998-present）, we have discussed and cited older literature where appropriate because of context or its significant impact to the present field. Several previous review articles are also cited where appropriate and readers should seek those out. RESULTS： A total of 199 articles are cited that fulfill the criteria listed above. CONCLUSIONS： Though important numerous and significant advances have been made in our understanding of the molecular, biochemical, cell biological and physiologic mechanisms underlying phototropism in land plants over the past decade, there are many remaining unanswered questions. The future is indeed bright for researchers in the field and we look forward to the next decade worth of discoveries.

China’s first carbon dioxide(CO_(2))measurement satellite mission,TanSat,was launched in december *** paper introduces the first attempt to detect anthropogenic CO_(2) emission signatures using CO_(2) observations from TanSat and NO_(2) measurements from the TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument(TROPOMI)onboard the Copernicus Sentinel-5 Precursor(S5P)*** focus our analysis on two selected cases in Tangshan,China and Tokyo,*** found that the TanSat XCO_(2) measurements have the capability to capture the anthropogenic variations in the plume and have spatial patterns similar to that of the TROPOMI NO_(2) *** linear fit between TanSat XCO_(2) and TROPOMI NO_(2) indicates the CO_(2)-to-NO_(2) ratio of 0.8×10^(-16) ppm(molec cm^(-2))^(-1) in Tangshan and 2.3×10^(-16) ppm(molec cm^(-2))^(-1) in *** results align with the CO_(2)-to-NOx emission ratios obtained from the EdGAR v6 emission inventory.

drawing highly ordered MXene fibers from dynamically aggregated hydrogels

Assembly of two-dimensional (2d) nanomaterials into well-organized architectures is pivotal for controlling their function and enhancing performance. As a promising class of 2d nanomaterials, MXenes have attracted significant interest for use in wearable electronics due to their unique electrical and mechanical properties. However, facile approaches for fabricating MXenes into macroscopic fibers with controllable structures are limited. In this study, we present a strategy for easily spinning MXene fibers by incorporating polyanions. The introduction of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) into MXene colloids has been found to alter MXene aggregation behavior, resulting in a reduced concentration threshold for lyotropic liquid crystal phase. This modification also enhances the viscosity and shear sensitivity of MXene colloids. Consequently, we were able to draw continuous fibers directly from the gel of MXene aggregated with PAA. These fibers exhibit homogeneous diameter and high alignment of MXene nanosheets, attributed to the shear-induced long-range order of the liquid crystal phase. Furthermore, we demonstrate proof-of-concept applications of the ordered MXene fibers, including textile-based supercapacitor, sensor and electrical thermal management, highlighting their great potential applied in wearable electronics. This work provides a guideline for processing 2d materials into controllable hierarchical structures by regulating aggregation behavior through the addition of ionic polymers.

do networks of social interactions reflect patterns of kinship？

The underlying kin structure of groups of animals may be glimpsed from patterns of spatial position or temporal as- sociation between individuals, and is presumed to facilitate inclusive fitness benefits. Such structure may be evident at a finer, behavioural, scale with individuals preferentially interacting with kin. We tested whether kin structure within groups of meerkats Suricata suricatta matched three forms of social interaction networks： grooming, dominance or foraging competitions. Networks of dominance interactions were positively related to networks of kinship, with close relatives engaging in dominance interactions with each other. This relationship persisted even after excluding the breeding dominant pair and when we restricted the kinship network to only include links between first order kin, which are most likely to be able to discern kin through simple rules of thumb. Conversely, we found no relationship between kinship networks and either grooming networks or networks of foraging competitions. This is surprising because a positive association between kin in a grooming network, or a negative association be- tween kin in a network of foraging competitions offers opportunities for inclusive fitness benefits. Indeed, the positive association between kin in a network of dominance interactions that we did detect does not offer clear inclusive fitness benefits to group members. We conclude that kin structure in behavioural interactions in meerkats may be driven by factors other than indirect fit- ness benefits, and that networks of cooperative behaviours such as grooming may be driven by direct benefits accruing to indi- viduals perhaps through mutualism or manipulation

The study focuses on the in flue nee of Ni and Bi on alkali me etha nol oxidati on reacti on (EOR) activities, stabilities and structure characteristics of carb on supported Pd-based nano catalysts (Pd/C, Pd6oNi4o/C, Pd6oBi4o/C, Pd6oNi2oBi2o/C) by cyclic voltammetry/chr ono amperometry using rotating disk electrode and various physico-chemical methods such as X-ray powder diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. Nickel generates more adsorbed OH on the Pd catalyst surface than Bi and promotes the oxidation of adsorbed ethanol species. This results in a low onset potential toward ethanol oxidation with high current density. The presenee of Bi facilitates high toleranee toward various reaction in termediates resulting from the incomplete etha nol oxidation, but might also initiate the agglomerati on of Pd nano particles. The no vel Pd60Ni20Bi20/C nanocatalyst displays exceptional byproduct toleranee, but only satisfying catalytic activity toward ethanol oxidation in an alkaline medium. Therefore, the EOR performanee of the novel carbon supported ternary PdxNiyBiz anode catalyst with various atomic variations (Pd70Ni25Bi5/C, Pd70Ni20Bi10/C, Pd80Ni10Bi10/C and Pd40Ni20Bi40/C) using the common instant reduction synthesis method was further optimized for the alkaline direct ethanol fuel cell. The carbon supported Pd:Ni:Bi nano catalyst with atomic ratio of 70:20:10 displays outsta nding catalytic activity for the alkaline EOR compared to the other PdxNiyBiy/C nanocatalysts as well as to the benchmarks Pd/C, Pd60Ni40/C and Pd60Bi40/C. The synergy and the optimal content in consideration of the oxide species of Pd, Ni and Bi are crucial for the EOR kinetic enhancement in alkaline medium.

Knowing what native trees can recr uit on degraded areas allows selecting the best species to restore these ***,as this information is not often available,experimentation is required before large-scale *** study used ex situ experiments to make these decisions on *** with r-strategist plants,excessive solar radiation and water shortage commonly impair tree recruitment in open *** experiments focused on the interactions among these factors and were conducted with three pioneer species from seasonally dry forests of northwest Argentina,Anadenanthera colubrina,Ceiba chodatii and Jacaranda *** of each species were sown at two light levels(sunlight/shade),two rainfall levels(full/reduced)and two levels of interspecific competition(with/without competitor)in a tree *** emergence and survival were monitored over a year and the results indicate that species differentially respond to varying levels of light and *** of *** tolerated water shortages under elevated solar radiation,which are desirable features for forest *** of *** tolerated shade and drought,suggesting that they require shading for establishing in open ***,*** seedlings neither tolerated full sunlight nor water shortages,suggesting that this species requires shading and regular watering if used in *** of the effects of light and water,the survival of all species was reduced by interspecific *** results highlight the importance of experimentation for selecting the best species for forest restoration and can enhance the cost/benefit ratios of these actions.

Initial management of suspected biliary injury after laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Although rare,iatrogenic bile duct injury(BdI)after laparoscopic cholecystectomy may be devastating to the *** cornerstones for the initial management of BdI are early recognition,followed by modern imaging and evaluation of injury *** hepato-biliary centre care with a multidisciplinary approach is *** diagnostics of BdI commences with a multiphase abdominal computed tomography scan,and when the biloma is drained or a surgical drain is put in place,the diagnosis is set with the help of bile drain *** visualize the leak site and biliary anatomy,the diagnostics is supplemented with contrast enhanced magnetic resonance *** location and severity of the bile duct lesion and concomitant injuries to the hepatic vascular system are *** often,a combination of percutaneous and endoscopic methods is used for control of contamination and bile ***,the next step is endoscopic retrograde cholangiography(ERC)for downstream control of the bile *** with insertion of a stent is the treatment of choice in most mild bile *** surgical option of re-operation and its timing should be discussed in cases where an endoscopic and percutaneous approach is not *** patient's failure to recover properly in the first days after laparoscopic cholecystectomy should immediately raise suspicion of BdI and this merits immediate *** consultation and referral to a dedicated hepatobiliary unit are essential for the best outcome.
