Genomic selection,the application of genomic prediction(GP)models to select candidate individuals,has significantly advanced in the past two decades,effectively accelerating genetic gains in plant *** article provides a holistic overview of key factors that have influenced GP in plant breeding during this *** delved into the pivotal roles of training population size and genetic diversity,and their relationship with the breeding population,in determining GP *** emphasis was placed on optimizing training population *** explored its benefits and the associated diminishing returns beyond an optimum *** was done while considering the balance between resource allocation and maximizing prediction accuracy through current optimization *** density and distribution of single-nucleotide polymorphisms,level of linkage disequilibrium,genetic complexity,trait heritability,statistical machine-learning methods,and non-additive effects are the other vital *** wheat,maize,and potato as examples,we summarize the effect of these factors on the accuracy of GP for various *** search for high accuracy in GP—theoretically reaching one when using the Pearson’s correlation as a metric—is an active research area as yet far from optimal for various *** hypothesize that with ultra-high sizes of genotypic and phenotypic datasets,effective training population optimization methods and support from other omics approaches(transcriptomics,metabolomics and proteomics)coupled with deep-learning algorithms could overcome the boundaries of current limitations to achieve the highest possible prediction accuracy,making genomic selection an effective tool in plant breeding.

Porous three-dimensional (3D) structures generally improve the performance of electrodes by increasing their active surface area and the diffusion speed of electrolyte ions during charging/*** polypyrrole (PPy) based films were created by electrodepositing PPy in the presence of varying amounts of chloride anions (Cl^(-)) and polyanionic ribbonlike nanoparticles (carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals (CNC-COO-)) as scaffold *** assembly mechanism of the 3D PPy electrodes combines the effect of different nucleation and growth mechanisms during electropolymerization and deposition of the formed PPy with CNC-COO-and with Cl^(-).The highest area capacitance of these electrode materials was 1.39 F cm^(-2)(150.2 F g^(-1)) at a current density of 1 m A cm^(-2)(0.1 A g^(-1)).more importantly,at a high current density of 20 m A cm^(-2)(2.2 A g^(-1)),the thick (ca.130μm),3D,and high mass loading(9.2 mg cm^(-2)) Cl^(-):CNC-COO-/PPy films exhibited an excellent areal capacitance of 0.85 F cm^(-2)(70.8 F g^(-1)),increasing about 16%over CNC-COO-/PPy films prepared without Cl^(-)present during *** addition,an aqueous Cl^(-):CNC-COO-/PPy (with Cl^(-):CNC-COO-=2.0) symmetric supercapacitor had an outstanding energy density of 41.15μWh cm^(-2)(4.46 Wh kg^(-1)) and excellent cycling stability,while even improving on its original areal capacitance (to 111.2%of its original capacitance) after cycling3000 cycles at 8 m A cm^(-2),indicating their potential in energy storage devices.

A desired prerequisite when performing a quantum mechanical calculation is to have an initial idea of the atomic positions within an approximate crystal *** atomic positions combined should result in a system located in,or close to,an energy ***,designing low-energy structures may be a challenging task when prior knowledge is scarce,specifically for large multi-component systems where the degrees of freedom are close to *** this paper,we propose a method for identification of low-energy crystal structures within multi-component systems by combining cluster expansion and crystal structure predictions with density-functional theory *** structure prediction searches are applied to the mo_(2)AlB_(2) and Sc2AlB_(2) ternary systems to identify candidate structures,which are subsequently used to explore the quaternary(pseudo-binary)(mo_(x)Sc_(1–x))2AlB_(2) system through the cluster expansion formalism utilizing the ground-state search ***,we show that utilizing low-energy structures found within the cluster expansion ground-state search as seed structures within crystal structure predictions of(mo_(x)Sc_(1–x))2AlB_(2) can significantly reduce the computational *** this combined approach,we not only correctly identified the recently discovered mo_(4/3)Sc_(2/3)AlB_(2) i-mAB phase,comprised of in-plane chemical ordering of mo and Sc and with Al in a Kagomélattice,but also predict additional low-energy structures at various *** result demonstrates that combining crystal structure prediction with cluster expansion provides a path for identifying low-energy crystal structures in multi-component systems by employing the strengths from both frameworks.

Electrochromic(EC)materials that change color with voltage have been widely studied for use in dynamic ***,colorless-to-colorful switching with high contrast ratio is generically unattainable,especially for colorless-to-black electrochromic materials with an ultrahigh contrast ratio over the entire visible *** this work,we developed Nb_(1.33)C mXene-based dynamic windows with colorless-to-black switching of up to 75%reversible change in transmittance from 300 to 1,500 *** exploring the electrochromic effects of different electrolytes through in situ optical changes and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance(EQCm),it is found that electrochromic behavior is greatly influenced by the extent of reversible Li^(+)insertion/deinsertion between the two-dimensional Nb_(1.33)C mXene *** addition,a colorless-to-black EC device based on Nb_(1.33)C with an overall integrated contrast ratio over 80%was successfully constructed by a solution-processable spin coating *** work enables a simple route to fabricate mXene-based high-performance electrochromic smart windows,which is important for further expanding the application of mXenes to optoelectronic and photonic applications.

Knowing what native trees can recr uit on degraded areas allows selecting the best species to restore these ***,as this information is not often available,experimentation is required before large-scale *** study used ex situ experiments to make these decisions on *** with r-strategist plants,excessive solar radiation and water shortage commonly impair tree recruitment in open *** experiments focused on the interactions among these factors and were conducted with three pioneer species from seasonally dry forests of northwest Argentina,Anadenanthera colubrina,Ceiba chodatii and Jacaranda *** of each species were sown at two light levels(sunlight/shade),two rainfall levels(full/reduced)and two levels of interspecific competition(with/without competitor)in a tree *** emergence and survival were monitored over a year and the results indicate that species differentially respond to varying levels of light and *** of *** tolerated water shortages under elevated solar radiation,which are desirable features for forest *** of *** tolerated shade and drought,suggesting that they require shading for establishing in open ***,*** seedlings neither tolerated full sunlight nor water shortages,suggesting that this species requires shading and regular watering if used in *** of the effects of light and water,the survival of all species was reduced by interspecific *** results highlight the importance of experimentation for selecting the best species for forest restoration and can enhance the cost/benefit ratios of these actions.

The non-specific lipid transfer proteins （nsLTPs） are small, basic proteins characterized by a tunnel-like hydrophobic cavity, capable of transferring various lipid molecules between lipid bilayers. most nsLTPs are synthesized with an N-terminal signal peptide that localizes the protein to the apoplastic space. The nsLTPs have only been identified in seed plants, where they are encoded by large gene families. We have initiated an analysis of the evolutionary history of the nsLTP family using genomic and EST information from non-seed land plants and green algae to determine：（1） when the nsLTP family arose, （2） how often new nsLTP subfamilies have been created, and （3） how subfamilies differ in their patterns of expansion and loss in different plant lineages. In this study, we searched sequence databases and found that genes and transcripts encoding nsLTPs are abundant in liverworts, mosses, and all other investigated land plants, but not present in any algae. The tertiary structures of representative liverwort and moss nsLTPs were further studied with homology modeling. The results indicate that the nsLTP family has evolved after plants conquered land. Only two of the four major subfamilies of nsLTPs found in flowering plants are present in mosses and liverworts. The additional subfamilies have arisen later, during land plant evolution. In this report, we also introduce a modified nsLTP classification system.
