In this note, we study a discrete time approximation for the solution of a class of delayed stochastic differential equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H ∈(1/2,1). In order to prove convergence, we use rough paths techniques. Theoretical bounds are established and numerical simulations are displayed.

The Synaptonemal complex of Basal Metazoan Hydra:More Similarities to Vertebrate than Invertebrate Meiosis Model Organisms

The synaptonemal complex （Sc） is an evolutionarily well-conserved structure that mediates chromosome synapsis during prophase of the first meiotic division. Although its structure is conserved, the characterized protein components in the current metazoan meiosis model systems （Drosophila melanogaster, caenorhabditis elegans, and Mus musculus） show no sequence homology, challenging the question of a single evolutionary origin of the Sc. However, our recent studies revealed the monophyletic origin of the mammalian Sc protein components. Many of them being ancient in Metazoa and already present in the cnidarian Hydra. Remarkably, a comparison between different model systems disclosed a great similarity between the Sc components of Hydra and mammals while the proteins of the ecdysozoan systems （D. rnelanogaster and c. elegans） differ significantly. In this review, we introduce the basal-branching metazoan species Hydra as a potential novel invertebrate model system for meiosis research and particularly for the investigation of Sc evolution, function and assembly. Also, available methods for Sc research in Hydra are summarized.

Thick Electrodes of a Self-Assembled MXene Hydrogel composite for High-Rate Energy Storage

Supercapacitors based on two-dimensional MXene(Ti_(3)c_(2)T_(z))have shown extraordinary performance in ultrathin electrodes with low mass loading,but usually there is a significant reduction in high-rate performance as the thickness increases,caused by increasing ion diffusion *** limitations include restacking of the nanosheets,which makes it challenging to realize the full potential of these electrode ***,we demonstrate the design of a vertically aligned MXene hydrogel composite,achieved by thermal-assisted self-assembled gelation,for high-rate energy *** highly interconnected MXene network in the hydrogel architecture provides very good electron transport properties,and its vertical ion channel structure facilitates rapid ion *** resulting hydrogel electrode show excellent performance in both aqueous and organic electrolytes with respect to high capacitance,stability,and high-rate capability for up to 300μm thick electrodes,which represents a significant step toward practical applications.

Surgery for chronic pancreatitis in Finland is rare but seems to produce good long-term results

BAcKGROUND Abdominal pain in chronic pancreatitis(cP)may require invasive *** procedures are rare,and little is known about the long-term *** To study the nationwide frequency of pancreatic surgery for cP in Finland,and postoperative symptoms and quality of life(QoL).METHODS All patients in Finland with a diagnosis of cP who had undergone pancreatic surgery during 2000-2008 were selected from a national *** patients with cP as an indication for pancreatic surgery were *** records were studied and questionnaires QLQ-c30,PAN26 and AUDIT,and symptom questionnaires were sent *** During the 9-year period,pancreatic surgery for cP was performed on 30 patients[77%men,median age 45(21-62)years].Eighty-three percent underwent endoscopic procedures before *** was performed a median 2(0-10)years after the original cP diagnosis,and 17%developed postoperative *** pain relief after surgery was reported in 70%of *** for strong pain medication was lower after *** of 21(38%)returned the questionnaires and 88%reported that surgery had reduced their pain and 63%were almost or entirely pain-free at a median 14(10-18)years after *** results did not differ from those in our control Finnish cP *** Surgery for cP is rare in Finland and most patients had prior endoscopic *** who returned the questionnaires reported less pain and good QoL during the 14-year follow-up.

Men suffering from azoospermia can father a child,by extracting spermatozoa from a testicular biopsy *** main complication in this procedure is the presence of an abundance of ***,the isolation of the few spermatozoa from the sample is manually performed due to ineffectiveness of filtering methods,making it time consuming and labor *** spermatozoa are smaller in both width and height than any other cell type found in the sample,with a very small difference compared with the erythrocyte for the smallest,making this not the feature to base the extraction ***,the length of the spermatozoon is 5×larger than the diameter of an erythrocyte and can be *** we propose a microfluidic chip,in which the tumbling behavior of spermatozoa in pinched flow fractionation is utilized to separate them from the *** show that we can extract 95%of the spermatozoa from a sample containing 2.5%spermatozoa,while removing around 90%of the *** adjusting the flow rates,we are able to increase the collection efficiency while slightly sacrificing the purity,tuning the solution for the available sample in the clinic.

Electrochromic(Ec)materials that change color with voltage have been widely studied for use in dynamic ***,colorless-to-colorful switching with high contrast ratio is generically unattainable,especially for colorless-to-black electrochromic materials with an ultrahigh contrast ratio over the entire visible *** this work,we developed Nb_(1.33)c MXene-based dynamic windows with colorless-to-black switching of up to 75%reversible change in transmittance from 300 to 1,500 *** exploring the electrochromic effects of different electrolytes through in situ optical changes and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance(EQcM),it is found that electrochromic behavior is greatly influenced by the extent of reversible Li^(+)insertion/deinsertion between the two-dimensional Nb_(1.33)c MXene *** addition,a colorless-to-black Ec device based on Nb_(1.33)c with an overall integrated contrast ratio over 80%was successfully constructed by a solution-processable spin coating *** work enables a simple route to fabricate MXene-based high-performance electrochromic smart windows,which is important for further expanding the application of MXenes to optoelectronic and photonic applications.

Phototropism in land plants： Molecules and mechanism from light perception to response

BAcKGROUND： Phototropism is the response a plant exhibits when it is faced with a directional blue light stimulus. Though a seemingly simple differential cell elongation response within a responding tissue that results in organ curvature, phototropism is regulated through a complex set of signal perception and transduction events that move from the plasma membrane to the nucleus. In nature phototropism is one of several plant responses that have evolved to optimize photosynthesis and growth. OBJEcTIVE： In the present work we will review the state of the field with respect to the molecules and mechanisms associated with phototropism in land plants. METHODS： A systematic literature search was done to identify relevant advances in the field. Though we tried to focus on literature within the past decade （1998-present）, we have discussed and cited older literature where appropriate because of context or its significant impact to the present field. Several previous review articles are also cited where appropriate and readers should seek those out. RESULTS： A total of 199 articles are cited that fulfill the criteria listed above. cONcLUSIONS： Though important numerous and significant advances have been made in our understanding of the molecular, biochemical, cell biological and physiologic mechanisms underlying phototropism in land plants over the past decade, there are many remaining unanswered questions. The future is indeed bright for researchers in the field and we look forward to the next decade worth of discoveries.

The impact of various vitamin D3(VD3)doses(1.0,2.5,or 5 mg/kg,s.c.)in mitigating the negative consequences of chronic unpredictable mild stress(cUMS)was *** female rats with long-term estrogen deficiency were assessed using the sucrose preference test(SPT),the elevated plus-maze(EPM),the light/dark test(LDT),and the open-field test(OFT)to measure anhedonia-like and anxiety-like *** corticosterone(cS)and adrenocorticotrophic hormone(AcTH)concentrations in blood serum and the brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)expression in the hippocampus of long-term ovariectomized(OVX)rats were measured by ELISA kits and/or western *** with VD3(5.0 mg/kg),similarly to fluoxetine(10.0 mg/kg),significantly reduced the anhedonia profile in the SPT and anxiety-like behavior in the EPM and LDT,and cS and AcTH levels in blood *** also elevated BDNF levels in the hippocampus of long-term OVX/cUMS compared to OVX/cUMS/solvent ***,these findings suggest that VD3(5.0 mg/kg)administration might attenuate the anxiety-like profile in long-term OVX adult rats subjected to the *** might occur via activation of the BDNF signaling pathway in the hippocampus and via restoration of cS and AcTH levels in blood serum.

Acute effects of Helicobacter pylori extracts on gastric mucosal blood flow in the mouse

AIM： To investigate the mechanisms underlying the reduction in gastric blood flow induced by a luminal water extract of Hellcobacter pylori （HPE）. METHODS： The stomachs of isoflurane-anesthetized mice were exteriorized, and the mucosal surface exposed. Blood flow was measured with the laserDoppler technique, and systemic arterial blood pressure monitored. c57BL/6 mice were exposed to water extract produced from Hpylori strain 88-23. To investigate the role of a nerveor iNOS-mediated pathway, we used intraluminal lidocaine and iNOS-/- mice. Blood flow response to the endogenous nitric oxide synthase inhibitor asymmetric dimethyl arginine （ADMA） was also assessed. RESULTS： In wild-type mice, HPE decreased mucosal blood flow by approximately 30%. This reduction was abolished in iNOS-deficient mice, and by pre-treatment with lidocaine. Luminally applied ADMA resulted in reduction in blood flow similar to that observed in wildtype mice exposed to HPE. cONcLUSION： A H py/ori water extract reduces gastric mucosal blood flow acutely through iNOS- and nerve-mediated pathways.
