Exhuming the Meso-Cenozoic Kyrgyz Tianshan and siberian Altai-sayan:A review based on low-temperature thermochronology

Thermochronological datasets for the Kyrgyz Tianshan and siberian Altai-sayan within Central Asia reveal a punctuated exhumation history during the Meso-Cenozoic. In this paper, the datasets for both regions are collectively reviewed in order to speculate on the links between the Meso-Cenozoic exhumation of the continental Eurasian interior and the prevailing tectonic processes at the plate margins. Whereas most of the thermochronological data across both regions document late Jurassic -Cretaceous regional basement cooling, older landscape relics and dissecting fault zones throughout both regions preserve Triassic and Cenozoic events of rapid cooling, respectively. Triassic cooling is thought to reflect the Qiangtang-Eurasia collision and/or rifting/subsidence in the West siberian basin. Alternatively, this cooling signal could be related with the terminal terrane-amalgamation of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt. For the Kygyz Tianshan, late Jurassic-Cretaceous regional exhumation and Cenozoic fault reactivations can be linked with specific tectonic events during the closure of the Palaeo-Tethys and Neo-Tethys Oceans, respectively. The effect of the progressive consumption of these oceans and the associated collisions of Cimmeria and India with Eurasia probably only had a minor effect on the exhumation of the siberian Altai-sayan. More likely, tectonic forces from the east （present-day co- ordinates） as a result of the building and collapse of the Mongol-Okhotsk orogen and rifting in the Baikal region shaped the current siberian Altai-sayan topography. Although many of these hypothesised links need to be tested further, they allow a first-order insight into the dynamic response and the stress propagation pathways from the Eurasian margin into the continental interior.

Classification of Flat Lagrangian surfaces in Complex Lorentzian Plane

One of the most fundamental problems in the study of Lagrangian submanifolds from Riemannian geometric point of view is to classify Lagrangian immersions of real space forms into complex space forms. The main purpose of this paper is thus to classify flat Lagrangian surfaces in the Lorentzian complex plane C1^2. Our main result states that there are thirty-eight families of flat Lagrangian surfaces in C1^2. Conversely, every flat Lagrangian surface in C1^2 is locally congruent to one of the thirty-eight families.

Background： Feeding higher-energy prepartum is a common practice in the dairy industry. However, recent data underscore how it could reduce performance, deepen negative energy balance, and augment inflammation and oxidative stress in fresh cows. We tested the effectiveness of rumen-protected methionine in preventing the negative effect of feeding a higher-energy prepartum. Multiparous Holstein cows were fed a control lower-energy diet（CON, 1.24 Mcal/kg DM; high-straw） during the whole dry period（-50 d）, or were switched to a higher-energy（OVE, 1.54 Mcal/kg DM）, or OVE plus smartamine M（OVE ＋ sM; Adisseo NA） during the last 21 d before *** cows received the same lactation diet（1.75 Mcal/kg DM）. smartamine M was top-dressed on the OVE diet（0.07% of DM） from -21 through 30 d in milk（DIM）. Liver samples were obtained via percutaneous biopsy at -10, 7 and 21 DIM. Expression of genes associated with energy and lipid metabolism, hepatokines, methionine cycle, antioxidant capacity and inflammation was ***： Postpartal dry matter intake, milk yield, and energy-corrected milk were higher in CON and OVE ＋ sM compared with OVE. Furthermore, milk protein and fat percentages were greater in OVE ＋ sM compared with CON and OVE. Expression of the gluconeogenic gene PCK1 and the lipid-metabolism transcription regulator PPARA was again greater with CON and OVE ＋ sM compared with OVE. Expression of the lipoprotein synthesis enzyme MTTP was lower in OVE ＋ sM than CON or OVE. similarly, the hepatokine FGF21, which correlates with severity of negative energy balance, was increased postpartum only in OVE compared to the other two groups. These results indicate greater liver metabolism and functions to support a greater production in OVE ＋ sM. At 7 DIM, the enzyme GsR involved in the synthesis of glutathione tended to be upregulated in OVE than CON-fed cows, suggesting a greater antioxidant demand in overfed cows. Are flight paths of nocturnal songbird migrants influenced by local coastlines at a peninsula？

By recording nocturnally migrating passerines with tracking radar we have investigated how coastlines affect the migrants＇ flight paths. Birds could use coastlines as an orientation aid or as a reference cue to compensate for wind drift while mi- grating. However, on the small scale of Falsterbo Peninsula in southern sweden, we found very little effect of coastlines on migrants flight paths, irrespective of altitude. We tracked 2 930 migrants in three autumn and two spring seasons, at altitudes from 60 up to 3 000 meters. We compared tracks of migrants flying in three different areas, which correspond to the three main coastlines, and can demonstrate that the orientation of the tracks did not differ in a way consistent with the coastlines between the areas in autumn, and showed only a slight effect in spring. This is in accordance with earlier infrared device monitoring in Falsterbo, but contrary to earlier visual observations. It supports the view of nocturnally migrating passerines as mainly broad-front migrants. Even though the coastlines on the scale of the peninsula affected the flight paths very little, it is possible that the coastline has an effect on a larger regional scale, by migrants avoiding long sea crossings and thereby being funneled towards the peninsula, but this remains to be investigated [Current Zoology 60 （5）： 660-669, 2014].

Why People Live in Flood-Prone Areas in Akuressa, sri Lanka

To investigate why people live in areas at high risk of floods, a qualitative case study was carried out in the areas around Akuressa, in southwest sri Lanka. Data collection consisted mainly of semistructured interviews with local residents and government officials. The purpose was to study why people live in areas at high risk of floods, by looking beyond the purely physical aspects of living with hazards and exploring the underlying social factors. Four main factors were identified: an overall good living situation; a sense of place; difficulties relocating; and being well-adapted to the situation. The analysis also examined whether government officials shared the views of local residents. The findings highlighted both areas of consensus and discrepancies related to risk awareness, and the efficiency of risk reduction measures that had been implemented by the government. The case study identified and explored underlying social factors, such as risk normalization, risk trade-offs, and push-and-pull processes, which seem to influence the decision to live in a high-risk area.

Impact of training specificity on exercise-induced cardiac troponin elevation in professional athletes: A pilot study

BACKGROUND Release of cardiac biomarkers is common after strenuous endurance exercise,but data on intermittent exercise are *** has not been investigated whether cardiac troponin elevation is influenced depending on the type of exercise that an athlete is adapted to *** hypothesized that intermittent but not continuous exercise induces cardiac troponin elevation in professional athletes adapted to high-intensity intermittent *** To examine how training specificity impacts high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T(hs-cTnT)*** Nine professional floorball players participated in the study,which comprised two different exercise tests:a continuous incremental cycle ergometer test and a Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery 2(Yo-Yo IR2)*** assessment of hs-cTnT was performed after the cycle ergometer test and the Yo-Yo IR2 test(baseline,0,2,6,and 24 h).REsULTs No hs-cTnT elevation above the myocardial damage cutoff(≥14 ng/L)was shown after the cycle ergometer test,whereas hs-cTnT levels rose over the cutoff in three of nine participants after the Yo-Yo IR2 *** hs-cTnT levels peaked at 6 h after both tests,but were significantly higher after the Yo-Yo IR2 test compared to the cycle ergometer test(median hs-cTnT concentration 10.6 ng/L vs 7.8 ng/L,P=0.038).All levels returned to baseline within 24 *** In professional athletes adapted to high-intensity intermittent exercise,hs-cTnT was significantly elevated after intermittent but not continuous *** principle of specificity training should be considered when designing future studies to avoid misinterpretation of hs-cTnT elevation.

This paper addresses attitude synchronization problems for systems of multiple rigid-body agents with directed interconnection *** scenarios which differ in available information are *** the first scenario the agents can obtain their rotations and angular velocities relative to an inertial reference frame and transmit these information to their neighbors,while in the second scenario the agents can only obtain their own angular velocities and measure the relative rotations and relative angular velocities of their *** using rotation vectors and the high gain control,the authors provide torque control laws asymptotically synchronizing the rotations of the system almost globally for the first scenario and with initial rotations of the agents contained in a convex ball of sO(3)for the second *** illustrative example is provided to show the synchronization results for both scenarios.

Long-term experimental study on gravitational sedimentation of water aluminum oxide nanofluid at different volumetric concentrations

The stability of nanofluids is critical in engineering applications. The sedimentation of the nanoparticles in the base fluid limits the stability of the nanofluid. By measuring the absorbance of a visible laser through water aluminum oxide nanofluids it is possible to observe the evolution of the sedimentation process. A simple experimental setup consisting of a thin closed test cavity（0.8 mm or 1.5 mm thickness）filled with nanofluid and a set of laser diodes-photodiodes pairs was used in the experiments to determine the absorbance and the local volumetric concentration. The evolution of the local volumetric concentration of the nanofluid was measured at 13 height positions along the test cavity. Five initial volumetric concentrations of aluminum oxide（Al2O3; 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, 3.0% and 4.0%） were considered. Data and digital photos were acquired for a total time lapse of 260 days. The results were independent of the container thickness. The same general trend was consistent for all the initial volumetric concentrations, i.e., the sedimentation rate decreases in time. The time evolution of the volumetric concentration was compared with results from a modified Mason-Weaver model. The comparison was possible by setting a variable sedimentation velocity in the model, suggesting that the sedimentation is affected by the dynamics of nanoparticle clusters with diverse sizes produced by agglomeration.
