Soil dissolved organic matter(DOM)plays an essential role in the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR)as a linkage between terrestrial and aquatic systems.In particular,the reducing capacities of soil DOM influence the geochemistry of contaminants such as mercury(Hg).However,few studies have investigated the molecular information of soil DOM and its relationship with relevant geochemic al reactivities,including redox properties.We collected samples from eight sites in the TGR areas and studied the link between the molecular characteristics of DOM and their electron donation capacities(EDCs)toward Hg(II).The average kinetic rate and EDC of soil DOM in TGR areas were(0.004±0.001)hr-1 and(2.88±1.39)nmol e-/mg DOMbulk,respectively.Results suggest that higher EDCs and relatively rapid kinetics were related to the greater electron donating components of ligninderived and perhaps pyrogenic DOM,which are the aromatic constituents that influenced the reducing capacities of DOM in the present study.Molecular details revealed that even the typical autochthonous markers are important for the EDCs of DOM as well,in contrast to what is generally assumed.More studies identifying specific DOM molecular components involved in the abiotic reduction of Hg(II)are required to further understand the relations between DOM sources and their redox roles in the environmental fate of contaminants.

土壤溶解性有机质(soil DOM)作为陆地系统天然有机质的重要组成部分,以其活跃的生物地球化学性质,在污染物的环境行为中扮演着极其重要的作用.而了解其来源和结构组成是进一步明确其"结构-反应活性"的关键和前提.本文以三峡库区消落带土壤DOM为研究对象,基于传统氮/碳比值(N/C)及衍生的双端元源负荷模型,讨论该溯源方法在分子水平上的合理性;同时采用光漂白试验,进一步讨论各样本反应活性与其源负荷的相关性.结果表明,N/C值和双端元线性混合模型值均表明土壤DOM具有"陆源"和"内源"的双重特性——这与其他高级分析技术溯源结果基本一致.这种传统溯源分析结果在分子水平上具有合理性,但仅仅反映DOM结构和来源在特定面相上的信息,只能证明库区土壤DOM属于"混合型来源",却无法提供分辨率更高的特定组分来源信息.另外,N/C元素比值及源负荷分别和光漂白动力学过程极显著相关,因此可作为较方便的指标,快速简单判断DOM的光化学反应活性.但在关注DOM本身生物地球化学的研究工作中,仍建议使用多重方法的比较分析,以便于提高单一解析方法的分辨率.

Hepatic macrophages in liver homeostasis and diseasesdiversity,plasticity and therapeutic opportunities

Macrophages,which are key cellular components of the liver,have emerged as essential players in the maintenance of hepatic homeostasis and in injury and repair processes in acute and chronic liver diseases.Upon liver injury,resident Kupffer cells(KCs)sense disturbances in homeostasis,interact with hepatic cell populations and release chemokines to recruit circulating leukocytes,including monocytes,which subsequently differentiate into monocyte-derived macrophages(MoMφs)in the liver.Both KCs and MoMφs contribute to both the progression and resolution of tissue inflammation and injury in various liver diseases.The diversity of hepatic macrophage subsets and their plasticity explain their different functional responses in distinct liver diseases.In this review,we highlight novel findings regarding the origins and functions of hepatic macrophages and discuss the potential of targeting macrophages as a therapeutic strategy for liver disease.

We introduce a structural approach to study Lagrangian submanifolds of the complex hyperquadric in arbitrary dimension by using its family of non-integrable almost product structures.In particular,we define local angle functions encoding the geometry of the Lagrangian submanifold at hand.We prove that these functions are constant in the special case that the Lagrangian immersion is the Gauss map of an isoparametric hypersurface of a sphere and give the relation with the constant principal curvatures of the hypersurface.We also use our techniques to classify all minimal Lagrangian submanifolds of the complex hyperquadric which have constant sectional curvatures and all minimal Lagrangian submanifolds for which all local angle functions,respectively all but one,coincide.

Analysis of Hybrid Rechargeable Energy Storage Systems in Series Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles Based on Simulations

In this paper, an extended analysis of the performance of different hybrid Rechargeable Energy Storage Systems (RESS) for use in Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) with a series drivetrain topology is analyzed, based on simulations with three different driving cycles. The investigated hybrid energy storage topologies are an energy optimized lithium-ion battery (HE) in combination with an Electrical Double-Layer Capacitor (EDLC) system, in combination with a power optimized lithium-ion battery (HP) system or in combination with a Lithium-ion Capacitor (LiCap) system, that act as a Peak Power System. From the simulation results it was observed that hybridization of the HE lithium-ion based energy storage system resulted from the three topologies in an increased overall energy efficiency of the RESS, in an extended all electric range of the PHEV and in a reduced average current through the HE battery. The lowest consumption during the three driving cycles was obtained for the HE-LiCap topology, where fuel savings of respectively 6.0%, 10.3% and 6.8% compared with the battery stand-alone system were achieved. The largest extension of the range was achieved for the HE-HP configuration (17% based on FTP-75 driving cycle). HP batteries however have a large internal resistance in comparison to EDLC and LiCap systems, which resulted in a reduced overall energy efficiency of the hybrid RESS. Additionally, it was observed that the HP and LiCap systems both offer significant benefits for the integration of a peak power system in the drivetrain of a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle due to their low volume and weight in comparison to that of the EDLC system.

Phylogenomics is a tool for exploring plant biodiversity and their evolutionary relationships using genome-scale data,which can be applied to provide resources for future sustainable use and protection.Tropical forests constitute a focal point for evolutionary and conservation biology research.In South-East Asia,tropical forests are the largest repository of biodiversity in the region,and a thorough understanding and assessment of their ecology and evolution is essential for successful conservation and sustainable use.Dipterocarpaceae（holding more than 580 species） are the most important native tree family for wood production in tropical Asia.Dipterocarpaceae are spread over the tropical belt of Asia,Africa and South America,with their center of diversity in the Peninsular Malaysia,Sumatra and Borneo（over 270 species,160 endemics）.Asian dipterocarps are distributed from India to Papua New Guinea,adapted to different ecological zones.Being dominant over extensive areas,they perform key roles in forest ecology and regional climate functioning.Despite their important ecological and economical roles,we know comparatively little about Dipterocarpaceae genomics and its geographic distribution.Species used in this study are spread over the tropical and subtropical regions in the SE Asia.Our focus is on the northern most fringe of the Dipterocarpaceae distribution（northern SE Asia and China）,and the species from the center of diversity of the family.To obtain molecular data able to resolve the elusive evolutionary relationships in Dipterocarpaceae,we used a genome skimming approach,i.e bioinformatic sorting of highly repetitive sequences,combined with both de novo and reference-guided assembly,to reconstruct both plastomes and nuclear ribosomal cistrons（NRC）.We compared intergeneric and intrageneric genomic diversity,together with a set of taxa spread throughout the order Malvales.Our incongruence data sets of two ML phylogenomic trees based on chloroplast sequences and nuclear ribosomal cistron regions showed different

The largest tropical tree families are often made up of genera numbering hundreds of species.More often than not,these species are morphologically highly similar,a result of their recent rapid divergence and convergent evolution to similar environmental conditions.Successful identification in these groups is highly dependent upon the availability of flowering and fruiting material,not commonly available during collecting activities.Our inability to accurately identify and quantify species diversity in such families has major consequences for our efforts to understand,study and conserve tropical biodiversity.Unlike most other Magnoliids,Lauraceae are highly diverse family with over 3000 species worldwide,making it one of the dominant plant groups encountered in predominantly warm temperate and tropical regions and an important structural ecological and evolutionary component.Despite their species abundance and widespread occurrence,Lauraceae remain poorly known and difficult to identify,primarily due to the absence of clear vegetative characters required for successful identification.This paucity also translates into a poor delimitation of genera,prohibiting the construction of congruent classifications and the continued existence of large paraphyletic genera in Lauraceae to this day.The genus Neolitsea（Lauraceae） consists of nearly 100 species distributed widely from Indo-Malaya to East Asia Australia and new Zealand.China is the one of centers of diversity for the genus with more than 45 species,most of which are endemic to China.Little is known about the internal relationships of the genus or its exact position in the family,as higher generic relationships in Lauraceae have remained mostly unresolved.Using NGS techniques,we compiled the first genomic comparison of Neolitsea species,consisting of 14 species and compatred these with a wide range of other Lauraceae.Using genome skimming,we reconstructed complete plastomes and reconstructed the nuclear ribosomal cistron regions,totaling over 167477 bps.The chloropl

Chloroplast genomes supply indispensable information for the identification of DNA polymorphisms at inter-and intra-specific level,as well as contribute an important source of backbone information for evolutionary relationships at higher taxonomic levels.Rapid development of next-generation sequencing technologies（NGS） have helped to accumulate increasing amounts of DNA sequence data at relatively low cost and ever shorter sample-to-sequence times.This,in turn,has allowed for the exploration of plant genomes throughout the angiosperms at the molecular level,along with the development of novel approaches for phylogenetic studies.A consequence of rapid developments in NGS techniques is the need to simultaneously handle and curate increasingly large numbers of organellar genome data.Most new algorithms presented focus on assembly and refinement of data,but few are aimed at reducing handling times involved in the final steps of chloroplast genome reconstruction,still very much a manual process,even in the most popular assembly software.Especially in large chloroplast datasets,numbering hundreds of sequences,this constitutes a very laborious and time consuming effort.Here we introduce the development and application of a rapid and user-friendly algorithm,ECuADOR,built on a Perl script,to automate the detection and reorganization of newly assembled chloroplast based on a sliding window approach.Data are generated as moving singular reciprocally-compared fragments,tracking the number of nucleotide changes for a window of a user-defined length,slid along the genome.The algorithm has been tested on publicly available datasets of major families in all orders of angiosperms and gymnosperms,where this analysis provided a one-step approach to fast and accurate information on location and length of main organellar regions（LSC-IRa-SSC-IRb）,simultaneously reordering starting position and orientation,while providing detailed reports on ambiguities with their position and content.Input for ECuADOR is simple: any chloroplast sequen
