We explore the use of dielectrophoresis to discern the electrical properties of single cells by observing them at multiple *** first simulate experimental conditions to show that as we increase the number of measured frequencies,we are able to better discriminate among different ***,we use the simulation to find the optimal number and value of frequencies to use to best discriminate among different cells in *** then fabricate a microfluidic device,calibrate it with polystyrene beads,and characterize it with BA/f3 *** this device,we test three different activation levels of HL60 cells treated with cytochalasin D using the optimal frequency sequence obtained in simulation to determine the differences in discrimination abilities depending on the number of frequencies *** quantify the discrimination abilities of the optimal one,two,and three frequencies by minimizing 0-1 loss.

Laser-driven ramp compression was used to investigate iron characteristics along the isentropic path. The iterative Lagrangian analysis method was employed to analyze the free surface velocity profiles in iron stepped target measured with two VISARs. The onset stress for the α to ε phase transformation was determined from the sudden change in the sound velocity and was found over-pressurized compared to the static and shock results. The derived stress（26 GPa） and strain rate（up to 10-8 s^-1） are consistent with our previous experimental results. The stress-density relations were compared with those from previous ramp experiments and good agreements were found, which experimentally confirms the simulations,showing that iterative Lagrangian analysis can be applied to the ramp-compression data with weak shock.

We examined historical and ecological factors affecting current primate biodiversity in Southeast *** Africa,Madagascar and South America,but not Southeast Asia,primate species richness is positively associated with average rainfall and distance from the equator(latitude).We predicted that Southeast Asia’s non-conformance may be due to the effect of dispersed Pleistocene refuges(locations of constricted tropical forests during glacial maxima which today are at least 305 m in altitude).Based on 45 forested sites(13 on large islands;32 on the mainland)of at least 100 km^(2) to minimize recent human impact,we determined correlations between extant primate species richness and rainfall,latitude and supplementary ecological variables,while controlling for refuges and *** found that refuge sites had significantly higher primate species richness than non-refuges(t=-2.76,Pfrom the nearest Pleistocene refuge was negatively correlated with species richness for non-refuge sites(r=-0.51,Pfference in species richness between sites on large islands and the mainland(t=-1.4,P=0.16).The expected positive relationship between rainfall and species richness was not found(r=0.17,P=0.28).As predicted,primate species richness was negatively correlated with latitude(r=-0.39,Pf_(1,38)=6.18,Pfuge classification(f_(1,42)=5.96,Pf species *** ecological and historical factors contribute to present day primate species richness in Southeast Asia,making its biodiversity less of an outlier than previously believed.

Dear Editor, Since february 2013, infections with several novel avian- origin influenza viruses have occurred in Taiwan and the Mainland of China. The H7N9 influenza virus has caused 136 human infections with 44 deaths in the first influenza season, and has continued to cause infections during the current influenza season （Li et al., 2014）. As of february 11th, 2014, a total of 331 human infections with 101 deaths in China have been reported （http：//***）. During the outbreak of H7N9 in the Mainland of China, Tai- wan reported the first human infection of avian H6N1 influ- enza virus, which again hit the public （Shi et al., 2013a; Wei et al., 2013）. In November 2013, the first infection of H10N8 influenza virus was reported by Nanchang Center for Dis- ease Control and Prevention （Chen et al., 2014）.

We investigate the rotational dynamics of a low-density sphere on the free surface of a vertically vibrated granular material（VGM）. The dynamical behavior of the sphere is influenced by the external energy input from an electromagnetic shaker which is proportional to ε,where ε is equal to the ratio between the square of the dimensionless acceleration Γ and the square of the vibration frequency f of the container. Empirical results reveal that as the VGM transits from local-to-global convection,an increase in ε generally corresponds to an increase in the magnitudes of the rotational ω（RS） and translational v（CM） velocities of the sphere, an increase in the observed tilting angle θ（bed） of the VGM bed, and a decrease in the time t（wall） it takes the sphere to roll down the tilted VGM bed and hit the container wall. During unstable convection, an increase in ε results in a sharp decrease in the sphere＇s peak and mean ω（RS）,and a slight increase in t（wall）.for the range of ε values covered in this study, the sphere may execute persistent rotation, wobbling or jamming, depending on the vibration parameters and the resulting convective flow in the system.

High-performance batteries greatly benefit from accurate,early predictions of future capacity loss,to advance the management of the battery and sustain desirable application-specific performance characteristics for as long as ***-ion cells exhibit a slow capacity degradation up to a knee-point,after which the degradation ac-celerates rapidly until the cell’s *** capacity degradation data,we propose a robust method to identify the knee-point within capacity fade *** a new approach to knee research,we propose the concept‘knee-onset’,marking the beginning of the nonlinear degradation,and provide a simple and robust identifica-tion mechanism for *** link cycle life,knee-point and knee-onset,where predicting/identifying one promptly reveals the *** data featuring continuous high C-rate cycling(1C–8C),we show that,on average,the knee-point occurs at 95%capacity under these conditions and the knee-onset at 97.1%capacity,with knee and its onset on average 108 cycles *** the critical identification step,we employ machine learning(ML)techniques for early prediction of the knee-point and *** models predict knee-point and knee-onset quantitatively with 9.4% error using only information from the first 50 cycles of the cells’*** models use the knee-point predictions to classify the cells’expected cycle lives as short,medium or long with 88–90% accuracy using only information from the first 3–5 *** accuracy levels are on par with existing literature for End-of-Life prediction(requiring information from 100-cycles),nonetheless,we address the more complex problem of knee *** estimations are enriched with confidence/credibility *** uncertainty regarding the ML model’s estimations is quantified through prediction *** yield risk-criteria insurers and manufacturers of energy storage applications can use for battery *** classification model provides a tool for cell man-ufacturers

Luminescence constitutes a unique source of insight into hot carrier processes in metals,including those in plasmonic nanostructures used for sensing and energy ***,being weak in nature,metal luminescence remains poorly understood,its microscopic origin strongly debated,and its potential for unraveling nanoscale carrier dynamics largely ***,we reveal quantum-mechanical effects in the luminescence emanating from thin monocrystalline gold ***,we present experimental evidence,supported by first-principles simulations,to demonstrate its photoluminescence origin(i.e.,radiative emission from electron/hole recombination)when exciting in the interband *** model allows us to identify changes to the measured gold luminescence due to quantum-mechanical effects as the gold film thickness is ***,such effects are observable in the luminescence signal from flakes up to 40 nm in thickness,associated with the out-of-plane discreteness of the electronic band structure near the fermi *** qualitatively reproduce the observations with first-principles modeling,thus establishing a unified description of luminescence in gold monocrystalline flakes and enabling its widespread application as a probe of carrier dynamics and light-matter interactions in this *** study paves the way for future explorations of hot carriers and charge-transfer dynamics in a multitude of material systems.
