Objective:To investigate the cytotoxic activity of endophytic fungi isolated from mangrove ***:In the present study the DNA was isolated and the ITS region of 5.8s rRNA was amplified using specific primers ITS 1 and ITS4 and sequence was determined using automated *** search sequence similarity was found against the existing non redundant nucleotide sequence database thus,identified as Aspergilus flavus,Hyporcaea lixii,Aspergillus niger,Eutorium amstelodami,Irpex hydnoides and Neurospora *** the seven isolates, one fungi Irpex hydnoides was selected for further *** fungi were grown in sabouraud broth for five days and filtrate were separated and subjected to ethyl acetate for further studies. Results:Nearly half(49.25%) of the extracts showed activity(IC_(50) of 125 μ g/mL).These values were within the cutoff point of the National Cancer Institute criteria for cytotoxicity(IC_(50)hat the active principals might be Tetradecane(6.26%) with the RT ***:It is clear from the present study that mangrove fungi with bioactive metabolites can be expected to provide high quality biological material for high throughout biochemical,anti cancer screening *** results help us conclude that me potential of using metabolic engineering and post genomic approaches to isolate more novel bioactive compounds and to make their possible commercial application is not far off.

background: Reported are increased risks for malignant transformation in human oral keratinocytes (HOK) from ethyl alcohol (ETOH), tobacco products or human papilloma virus oncogenic subtype 16 (HPV 16) infections. We examined various HOK cell responses to these factors to show inhibitors of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) also inhibits furin;proprotein convertase (FC) and HPV 16 entry in HOK. Methods: Immortalized HOK by HPV 16 (HPV 16b) or human telomerase (hTERT);primary foreskin keratinocytes (NHFK), primary HOK, buccal keratinocytes (NHbK) and oral SCC-25 were treated with dibenz[a,l]pyrene (DbP), anthraquinone;nitrosamine (NNAL) or ethyl alcohol (ETOH) and acetaldehyde (AA). ETOH was tested for synthesis of malondialdehyde (MDA) and alcohol dehydrogenase expression (ADH). ETOH, and PAH were evaluated by Western immunoblot for oncogene changes, and phosphorylated EGFR expression. Inhibition of EGFR by WZ4002 and Erlotinib and/or carcinogens effect on HPV 16 entry were studied. A green fluorescent pseudovirus (PsV);chloromethylketone (CMK) an inhibitor of furin activity and Western immunoblot of furin cell distribution further characterized HPV 16 entry. Results: ETOH (10 μM) increased expression of phosphorylated EGFR and HPV 16 entry through furin activity, and membrane, nuclear and cytoskeletal accumulations. CMK suppressed HPV 16 entry and blockage of ADH while aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) enhanced HPV 16 entry. Similarly PAH, DbP (4-8 nM), anthraquinone (98 nM) and NNAL (6.9 μM) enhanced HPV 16 entry through furin activity and membrane, nuclear and cytoskeletal accumulations. Furthermore, WZ4002 and Erlotinib suppressed expressions of phosphorylated EGFR, FC activity, and HPV 16 entry. ETOH and DbP treatments also enhanced expressions of protease activated receptor-1 (PAR-1), and p21waf1 while depressed p16 and p27KIP1 expressions in HOK/HPV 16b cells. Conclusion: EGFR inhibitors are candidates for suppression of alcohol and tobacco effects on EGFR

The study examined the impact of using power tiller as a means of mechanizing lowland rice production in Nigeria. The study was carried out in bida area, Niger State, where the sawah rice production was disseminated by Watershed Initiative in Nigeria （WIN）. And in Ajase Ipo of Kwara State, some of the parameters assessed during the study included average speed of operation, average wheel slip/travel reduction, average draught of implement, and fuel consumption. The cost of operation and yield over five years of usage at Niger State and two years in Kwara State was determined and it was therefore concluded that the power tiller is the most appropriate field machinery for tillage operations such as puddling, leveling on lowland rice production in Nigeria.

A Generic MEMS Fabrication Process based on a Thermal budget Approach

A modular and generic monolithic integrated MEMS process for integrating CMOS technology with polysilicon microstructures is presented. The proposed process flow is designed with an intra CMOS approach to fabricate the microstructures into trenches without the need of planarization techniques. After annealing at 1000°C at significant period of time, it is shown that Id-Vg characteristics of the CMOS transistors remain almost unchanged, indicating their robustness to the intra process fabrication for the micromechanical structures. The CMOS module is designed with a 3 μm length as a minimum feature and this process results with a minimum of residual strain and stress on the micromechanical devices (ε = 1.28 × 10-4 and σ = -21 MPa).

background: Heart failure (HF) is a rising global health problem. Patients with HF tend to use several therapies obtained via different treatment routes to relieve their symptoms. It is rampant in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), leading to poor health-seeking behaviours and worsened HF health outcomes. We aimed to describe the different therapeutic routes of HF patients from the onset of their first symptom until treatment in a specialised cardiology centre to identify and rebuke harmful therapeutic routes. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study at the Yaoundé Central Hospital in Cameroon between December 2018 to July 2019. Patients were recruited by consecutive convenient sampling. Adult patients aged above 18 years with confirmed HF were included using the Framingham criteria. Variables relating to socio-demographic and clinical data and the health-seeking behaviours of HF patients were studied. Results: We included 132 patients with a mean age of 62.90 years (62.88% women). Very few patients (0.90%) followed an ideal route;60.71% of subjects had a pseudo-ideal route, 19.64% accessed a specialised facility directly, and 21.42% used an erratic route. At the arrival time in a cardiology unit, 49.24% and 35.61% of our subjects were in NYha stage III and IV HF compared to 15.15% for stage II. None of them was in Stage I. Conclusion: Most heart failure patients in Cameroon have resorted to non-specialised care, which worsens their clinical presentation. There is an urgent need for health education of HF patients in our context.

Oral Amodiaquine, Artesunate and Artesunate Amodiaquine Combination Affects Open Field behaviors and Spatial Memory in Healthy Swiss Mice

Effects of amodiaquine, artesunate and artesunate amodiaquine combination on open field novelty-induced behaviors and spatial memory in healthy mice were studied. Forty mice were used in the open field and fifty each in the radial arm maze and Y maze;mice were assigned into four or five groups of ten each, Group A served as control (distilled water), Groups b, C and D received artesunate (4 mg/kg), amodiaquine (10 mg/kg) and artesunate-amodiaquine combination (4 mg/kg and10 mg/kg) respectively, while Group E animals (for the cognition tests) were given scopolamine (2 mg/kg). Drugs and vehicle were administered orally for three days. Results were analysed by one way analysis of variance followed by a posthoc test. Results showed that artesunate and amodiaquine either in combination or administered singly caused a significant increase in open field novelty-induced horizontal locomotion and rearing. Grooming in the open field showed increments in the artesunate alone and artesunate amodiaquine groups while significant reductions in spatial memory were also seen in the cognition models used.
