In this paper,aβ-C-pyranogalactoside(Ⅸ)was synthesized from D-galactose through a nine-step reaction with a total yield of 32%under the palladium catalyst,and its structure was characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)and high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry(HR-ESI-MS).The absolute configuration of this pyranogalactoside was confirmed with a Flack parameter of–0.01(6)by X-ray crystallography using a Cu radiation ***(Ⅸ),C_(12)H_(19)NO_(7),crystal data:monoclinic system,space group P2_(1)2_(1)2_(1),a=8.53480(10),b=9.4207(2),c=18.1308(3)A,V=1457.79(4)A^(3),Z=4,F(000)=616,Dc=1.318 g/cm^(3),μ=0.931 mm^(-1),R=0.0294 and wR=0.0752 for 2875 independent reflections(R_(int)=0.0163)and 2857 observed ones(I>2σ(I)).

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a debilitating and severe manifestation ofuncontrolled and prolonged diabetes that presents as ulceration, usually locatedon the plantar aspect of the foot. Approximately 15% of individuals with diabeteswill eventually develop DFU, and 14%-24% of them will require amputation ofthe ulcerated foot due to bone infection or other ulcer-related complications. Thepathologic mechanisms underlying DFU are comprise a triad: Neuropathy,vascular insufficiency, and secondary infection due to trauma of the *** local and invasive care along with novel approaches like stem celltherapy pave the way to reduce morbidity, decrease amputations, and preventmortality from DFU. In this manuscript, we review the current literature withfocus on the pathophysiology, preventive options, and definitive management ofDFU.

Using Sorghum Stalk as a Partial Replacement of Lime in the Stabilization of Red Clay Soil for Road Sub-Grade Construction

This research aimed at testing the viability of using Sorghum Stalk Ash (SSA) as a partial replacement of lime in the stabilization of red clay soils for road subgrade construction. Red clay soils have been identified as highly expansive soils, which are affected by both climatic conditions and loading patterns. The consideration of both traffic loading patterns and climatic effects on these soils has been taken into account. A penetration test of 2.5 mm has been used on both pure red soils and stabilized soils at 10% and 15% partial replacement of lime with SSA and showed an improvement in the CBR of stabilized red clay soils up to 11.6%. Again, the PI of stabilized soils at 15% partial replacement of lime reduced up to 11.2%. The results obtained on both CBR and PI of these red clay soils are within the recommended values for the effective subgrade required for laying both permanent and flexible pavements. As a result, a recommendation of making use of SSA to lower the quantities of lime and its costs used in the stabilization of highly expansive soils have been tested through this research. However, further research on a more percentage partial replacement of lime to improve the PI of these soils to below 10% while keeping the CBR levels within the road construction regulations is welcomed.

Heart failure(HF)currently affects over 5 million Americans,with approximately 500 000 new cases diagnosed each year,with 5-year mortality rates approaching 50%.This is the most common cause of hospitalization in patients older than 65 years-old~([1]).There is overwhelming evidence from prospective randomized controlled trials that provides support for cardiac resynchronization therapy(CRT)in patients with symptomatic heart failure and ventricular dyssynchrony.

Background:Recent studies have shown that early antiretroviral therapy(ART)initiation results in significant HIV transmission *** is the rationale behind the“test and treat”policy of the World Health Organization(WHO).Implementation of this policy will lead to an increased incidence of ART-related adverse effects,especially in sub-Saharan Africa(SSA).Is the region yet ready to cope with such a challenging issue?Main body:The introduction and widespread use of ART have drastically changed the natural history of HIV/AIDS,but exposure to ART leads to serious medication-related adverse effects mainly explained by mitochondrial toxicities,and the situation will get worse in the near ***,ART is associated with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease,lipodystrophy,prediabetes and overt diabetes,insulin resistance and hyperlactatemia/lactic *** prevalence of these disorders is already high in SSA,and the situation will be exacerbated by the implementation of the new WHO *** SSA countries are characterized by(extreme)poverty,very weak health systems,inadequate and low quality of health services,inaccessibility to existing health facilities,lack of(qualified)health personnel,lack of adequate equipment,inaccessibility and unaffordability of medicines,and heavy workload in a context of a double burden of ***,there is dearth of data on the incidence and predictive factors of ART-related adverse effects in SSA,to anticipate on strategies that should be put in place to prevent the occurrence of these conditions or properly estimate the upcoming burden and prepare an adequate response *** are required if we are to anticipate and effectively prevent this upcoming ***:While SSA would be the first region to experience the huge benefits of implementing the“test and treat”policy of the WHO,the region is not yet prepared to manage the consequential increased burden of ART-related toxic and
