K2Ti6O13 whiskers were synthesized by conventional sol-gel method, sono-chemical assisted and microwave assisted sol-gel method in order to obtain catalysts with different particle sizes and to modify their optical, textural and electrochemical properties. These modifications improved their photocatalytic activity for H2 evolution and CO2 photo-reduction. Long K2Ti6O13 whiskers prepared by ultrasound assisted sol-gel method are the most active photocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction using pure water as reactant (U-SG, 10,065 μmol g^-1). In contrast, an opposite behavior was observed using a mixture of ethanol-water, where the highest activity was achieved by the shortest and less crystalline K2Ti6O13 whiskers (C-SG, 3,2871 μmol g^-1). In case of CO2 photo-reduction, long whiskers that were also prepared by the sono-chemical assisted sol-gel method were the most active to transform CO2 to formaldehyde, methane, methanol and hydrogen. The EFB value of this catalyst is located very close to the potential for formaldehyde production and favors the selectivity to this organic product.

An accurate simulation of air temperature at local scales is crucial for the vast majority of weather and climate *** this work,a hybrid statistical–dynamical downscaling method and a high-resolution dynamical-only downscaling method are applied to daily mean,minimum and maximum air temperatures to investigate the quality of localscale estimates produced by *** two downscaling approaches are evaluated using station observation data obtained from the Finnish meteorological Institute over a near-coastal region of western *** dynamical downscaling is performed with the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model,and the statistical downscaling method implemented is the Cumulative Distribution Function-transform(CDF-t).The CDF-t is trained using 20 years of WRF-downscaled Climate Forecast System Reanalysis data over the region at a 3-km spatial resolution for the central month of each *** performance of the two methods is assessed qualitatively,by inspection of quantile-quantile plots,and quantitatively,through the Cramer-von mises,mean absolute error,and root-mean-square error *** hybrid approach is found to provide significantly more skillful forecasts of the observed daily mean and maximum air temperatures than those of the dynamical-only downscaling(for all seasons).The hybrid method proves to be less computationally expensive,and also to give more skillful temperature forecasts(at least for the Finnish near-coastal region).

The emergence of new technological tools for territorial analysis,such as cloud-based GIS,or GIS viewers,compels us to closely examine its usefulness in geographic education. Specifically,it raises the professors and teachers’ questions: what to teach? how to teach? and what will students learn? This research responds to these three questions by interviewing Spanish experts who know how to use these tools to teach geography at university and secondary school levels. The Delphi technique was applied to achieve this,which established consensus and led to the following results from experts’ own experience: (1) that GIS help to understand territory in an experiential and non-memoristic way and (2) they enable the development of spatial thinking. This paper concludes that changes in methodologies and integrate technical knowledge into teacher training are needed.

Operation conditions to recover and quantify active compounds from perle Hallertau (pH) and Nuggets (N) hops, following a sequential combination of ultrasound and microwave assisted ethanolic extraction were studied. Ultrasound treatment (55 °C, 60% ethanol, 30 minutes) allowed extracts with phenolic contents of 160.43 mg GAE/g extract and ABTS radical scavenging capacity equivalent to 400.24 mg Trolox/g extract for pH. Optimal conditions for N were found at 55 °C, using 60% ethanol for 120 minutes (98.80 mg GAE/g extract) and 55 °C, 40% ethanol for 180 min (370.00 mg Trolox/g extract). The remaining solids were further processed under ethanolic microwave extraction (130–190 °C, 5 minutes) with the optimal results obtained at 190 °C for pH (77.11 and 98.67 mg GAE/g extract) and N (226.96 and 368.72 mg Trolox/g extract). Results obtained provided hops pellets as a rich source of active compounds that could be suitable for food and no food industry applications.

Levodopa(L-DOpA),a precursor of dopamine,is commonly prescribed for the treatment of the parkinson’s disease(pD).However,oral administration of levodopa results in a high level of homocysteine in the peripheral circulation,thereby elevating the risk of cardiovascular disease,and limiting its clinical ***,we report a non-invasive method to deliver levodopa to the brain by delivering L-DOpA-loaded sub-50 nm nanoparticles via brain-lymphatic *** hydrophilic L-DOpA was successfully encapsulated into nanoparticles of tannic acid(TA)/polyvinyl alcohol(pVA)via hydrogen bonding using the flash nanocomplexation(FNC)process,resulting in a high L-DOpA-loading capacity and uniform size in a scalable *** analysis in a pD rat model demonstrated that the levels of dopamine and tyrosine hydroxylase,which indicate the dopaminergic neuron functions,were increased by 2-and 4-fold,*** disorders and cerebral oxidative stress of the rats were significantly *** formulation exhibited a high degree of biocompatibility as evidenced by lack of induced inflammation or other pathological changes in major *** antioxidative and drug-delivery platform administered through the brain-lymphatic vasculature shows promise for clinical treatment of the pD.

In a surfactant assisted biodegradation process, the choice of surfactant(s) is of crucial importance. The question is: does the type of surfactant(i.e. chemical family) affect the biodegradation process at fixed hidrophillic-lypofillic balance(HLB) values? microcosm assessments were developed using contaminated soil, with around of 5000 mg/kg of hydrocarbons as TpH-diesel. mixtures of three nonionic surfactants were employed to get a wide range of specific HLB values. Tween20 and Span20 were mixed in the appropriate proportions to get HLB values between 8.6 and 16.7. Tween/Span60 mixtures reached HLB values between 4.7 and 14.9. Finally, Tween/Span80 combinations yielded HLB values between 4.3 and 15. TpH-diesel biodegradation was measured at the beginning, and after 8 weeks, as well as the FCU/gr soil, as a measure of microorganisms′ development during the biodegradation period. A second aim of this work was to assess the use of guar gum as a biodegradation enhancer instead of synthetic products. The conclusions of this work are that surfactant chemical family, and not only the HLB value clearly affects the assisted biodegradation rate. Surfactant's synergism was clearly observed. Regarding the use of guar gum, no biodegradation enhancement was observed for the three assessed concentrations, i.e., 2, 20, and 200 mg/kg, respectively. On the contrary, TpH-diesel removal was lower as the gum concentration increased. It is quite possible that guar gum was used as a microbial substrate.

The effect of heat treatment on the mechanical and biocorrosion behaviour of the mg-1 wt.%Zn-1 wt.%Ca(ZX11)and mg-3 wt.%Zn-0.4 wt.%Ca(ZX30)alloys was *** this purpose,three-point bending tests as well as electrochemical and immersion tests in Hank’s solution were performed on both alloys in four different thermal conditions:as-cast,solution-treated,peak-aged and *** examinations revealed that the as-cast ZX11 and ZX30 alloys exhibit a microstructure composed ofα-mg grains separated by large mg_(2)Ca and Ca_(2)mg_(6)Zn_(3) particles and by large Ca_(2)mg_(6)Zn_(3) particles,*** solution treatment,the Ca_(2)mg_(6)Zn_(3) precipitates at the grain boundaries(GBs)are fully dissolved in the ZX11 alloy,but mainly redistributed to form a more connected configuration in the ZX30 alloy,showing a poor age-hardening ***,after solution-treatment,galvanic corrosion and corrosion rate decreases in the former,but increases in the *** peak-aged condition displays the highest corrosion rate for both alloys,maybe due to an excessive number density of fine Ca_(2)mg_(6)Zn_(3) particles acting as cathodic ***,the over-aged condition shows the lowest corrosion rate for the ZX11 alloy and a very similar one to that of the as-cast sample for the ZX30 *** ZX11 alloy shows generally better biocorrosion behaviour than the ZX30 alloy to its lower content in the Ca_(2)mg_(6)Zn_(3) phase and thus reduced galvanic *** mg_(2)Ca phase present in the studied ZX11 alloy has been proved to exhibit an increased corrosion potential,which has been related to an observed enrichment with Zn.

The frequency response of a dual depletion p-i-n （pIN） photodiode structure is investigated. It is assumed that the light is incident on the N side and the drift region is located between the N contact and the absorption region. The numerical model takes into account the transit time and the capacitive effects and is applied to photodiodes with non-uniform illumination and linear electric field profile. With an adequate choice of the device＇s structural parameters, dual depletion photodiodes can have larger bandwidths than the conventional pIN devices.
