Space communication for deep-space missions,inter-satellite data transfer and Earth monitoring requires high-speed data *** reach is fundamentally dictated by the available transmission power,the aperture size,and the receiver sensitivity.A transition from radio-frequency links to optical links is now seriously being considered,as this greatly reduces the channel loss caused by diffraction.A widely studied approach uses power-efficient formats along with nanowire-based photon-counting receivers cooled to a few Kelvins operating at speeds below 1 Gb/***,to achieve the multi-Gb/s data rates that will be required in the future,systems relying on pre-amplified receivers together with advanced signal generation and processing techniques from fibre communications are also *** sensitivity of such systems is largely determined by the noise figure(NF)of the pre-amplifier,which is theoretically 3 dB for almost all ***-sensitive optical amplifiers(PSAs)with their uniquely low NF of 0 dB promise to provide the best possible sensitivity for Gb/s-rate long-haul free-space ***,we demonstrate a novel approach using a PSA-based receiver in a free-space transmission experiment with an unprecedented bit-error-free,black-box sensitivity of 1 photon-per-information-bit(PPB)at an information rate of 10.5 Gb/*** system adopts a simple modulation format(quadrature-phase-shift keying,QPSK),standard digital signal processing for signal recovery and forward-error correction and is straightforwardly scalable to higher data rates.

Characteristic features of austenitic steel grades combine a good corrosion resistance with a low hardness, wear resistance and scratch resistance. An interesting possibility for improving the wear behaviour of these steels without loss of their corrosion resistance lies in enriching the near surface region with nitrogen. The process of a solution nitriding allows the rise of the solution of nitrogen in the solid phase. On this state nitrogen increases the corrosion resistance and the tribilogical load-bearing capacity. The aim of the study was, to investigate the improvement of the pitting corrosion behaviour by solution nitriding. A special topic was to observe the effect of nitrogen by different molybdenum content. So austenitic stainless steels (18% Cr, 12% Ni, mo gradation between 0.06 to 3.6%) had been solution nitrided. The samples could be prepared with various surface content of nitrogen from 0.04 to 0.45% with a step-by-step grinding. The susceptibility against pitting corrosion of these samples had been tested by determination of the stable pitting potential in 0.5m and 1m NaCl at 25°C. For the investigated steel composition and the used corrosion system there is no influence of molybdenum on the effectiveness of nitrogen. The influence of nitrogen to all of the determined parameters can be described well by PRE = Cr + 3,3 * mo + 25 *N. XPS analysis of the sample surfaces support the results of the pitting corrosion *** surface investigations with an acid elektolyte (0,1m HC1 + 0,4m NaCl) were performed. In this case the passivation effective nitrogen content increases markedly with rising molybdenum concentration of the steel. Obviously an interaction of mo and N is connected with a strongly acid electrolyte.

Construction is a dangerous business. According to statistics, in every of the past thirteen years more than 1000 workers died in the USA construction industry. In order to minimize the overall number of these incidents, the research presented in this paper investigates to monitor and analyze the trajectories of construction resources first in a simulated environment and later on the actual job site. Due to the complex nature of the construction environment, three dimensional (3D) positioning data of workers is hardly collected. Although technology is available that allows tracking construction assets in real-time, indoors and outdoors, in 3D, at the same time, the continuously changing spatial and temporal arrangement of job sites requires any successfully working data processing system to work in real-time. This research paper focuses is safety on spatial data structures that offer the capability of realigning itself and reporting the distance of the closest neighbor in real-time. This paper presents results to simulations that allow the processing of real-time location data for collision detection and proximity analysis. The presented data structures and perform-ance results to the developed algorithms demonstrate that real-time tracking and proximity detection of resources is feasible.

Phenology shifts and range expansions cause organisms to experience novel day length-temperature *** on the temporal niche,organisms may benefit or suffer from changes in day length,thus potentially affecting phenological adaptation. We assessed the impact of day length changes on larvae of Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens) and Episyrphus balteatus (De Geer),both of which prey on *** *** are night-active,whereas those of *** appear to be *** subjected both species in climate chambers to day lengths of 16 :8 L :D and,to circumvent diapause responses,20 :4 L :*** recorded development times and predation rates of both species. *** grew 13%faster in the 16 :8 L :D treatment and preyed on significantly more *** contrast,*** grew 13% faster in the 20 :4 L :D treatment and higher predation rates in 20 :4 L :D were marginally *** results show that day length affects development and predation,but that the direction depends on species. Such differences in the use of day length may alter the efficiency ofbiocontrol agents in a changing climate.

Efficient parallel screening of combinatorial lib-ra ries is one of the most challenging aspects of the high-throughput(HT) heterogeneous catalysis workflow. Today, a number of methods have been used in HT catalyst studies, including various optical, mass-spectrometry, and gas-chromatography techniques. Of these, rapid-scanning Fourier-transform infrared(FTIR) imaging is one of the fastest and most versatile screening techniques. Here, the new design of the 16--channel HT reactor is presented and test results for its accuracy and reproducibility are shown. The performance of the system was evaluated through the oxidation of CO over commercial Pd/Al_2O_3 and cobalt oxide nanoparticles synthesized with different reducer-reductant molar ratios, surfactant types, metal and surfactant concentrations, synthesis temperatures, and ramp rates.

Background:In vivo diffusion tensor imaging(DTI)of the mouse brain was used to identify TDP-43 associated alterations in a mouse model for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS).methods:Ten mice with TDP-43^(G298S) overexpression under control of the Thy1.2 promoter and 10 wild type(wt)underwent longitudinal DTI scans at 11.7 T,including one baseline and one follow-up scan with an interval of about *** brain-based spatial statistics(WBSS)of DTI-based parameter maps was used to identify longitudinal alterations of TDP-43^(G298S) mice compared to wt at the cohort *** were supplemented by tractwise fractional anisotropy statistics(TFAS)and histological evaluation of motor cortex for signs of neuronal ***:Alterations at the cohort level in TDP-43^(G298S) mice were observed cross-sectionally and longitudinally in motor areas m1/m2 and in transcallosal fibers but not in the corticospinal *** loss in layer V of motor cortex was detected in TDP-43^(G298S) at the later(but not at the earlier)timepoint compared to ***:DTI mapping of TDP-43^(G298S) mice demonstrated progression in motor areas m1/*** and TFAS are useful techniques to localize TDP-43^(G298S) associated alterations over time in this ALS mouse model,as a biological marker.

This paper presents an internal model approach for modeling and diagnostic functionality design for nonlinear systems operating subject to single- and multiple-faults. We therefore provide the framework of structured augmented state models. Fault characteristics are considered to be generated by dynamical exosystems that are switched via equality constraints to overcome the augmented state observability limiting the number of diagnosable faults. Based on the proposed model, the fault diagnosis problem is specified as an optimal hybrid augmented state estimation problem. Sub-optimal solutions are motivated and exemplified for the fault diagnosis of the well-known three-tank benchmark. As the considered class of fault diagnosis problems is large, the suggested approach is not only of theoretical interest but also of high practical relevance.

Nuclear Factor kappa B p65 Expression in mouse Cochlea

Nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB) is one of the best-characterized transcription factors playing important roles in many cellular responses to a large variety of stimuli,including inflammatory cytokines, phorbol esters, growth factors, and bacterial and viral products. The aim of this study is to demonstrate NF-κB expression in the mouse cochlea and its enhancement in response to lipopolysaccharides(LPS) and kanamycin(KA) treatment. methods KA treatment consisted of subcutaneous KA injections at 700 mg/kg twice a day with an eight-hour interval between the two injections for 3 or 7 days. For animals in the LPS treatment group, a single dose of 0.3 mg LPS dissolved in 0.2 ml sterile saline were injected into both bullae through the tympanic membrane and kept there for 3 hours. Animals in the control group received subcutaneous saline injection for 7 days. Following immmunohistochemichal processing with rabbit polyclonal anti-NF-κB p65 antibodies, cryosections of the cochlea were examined for expression of NF-κB p65 in various structures in the cochlea. Results NF-κB p65 expression, identified by presence of brown reaction products characteristic of DAB immunohistochemistry, was visible in the spiral ligament, spiral prominence, tectorial membrane(Tm), spiral ganglion and nerve fibers. Relatively weak NF-κB p65 expression was also visualized in the organ of Corti. Within the organ of Corti, the inner hair cells(IHC), outer hair cells(OHC), inner pillar cells(IP), outer pillar cells (OP), Deiter’s cells(DC), and Boettcher’s cells exhibited stronger staining than the inner sulcus cells, Hensen’s cells(HC) and Claudius’cells. No NF-κB p65 expression was seen in the nucleus of the IHC and OHC. NF-κB p65 expression was increased in animals exposed to LPS or KA, demonstrating significant differences in the staining between control animals and LPS/KA-treated animals.
