The novel of COVID-19 disease started in late 2019 making the worldwide governments came across a high number of critical and death cases,beyond constant fear of the collapse in their health *** the beginning of the pandemic,researchers and authorities are mainly concerned with carrying out quantitative studies(modeling and predictions)overcoming the scarcity of tests that lead us to under-reporting *** address these issues,we introduce a Bayesian approach to the SIR model with correction for underreporting in the analysis of COVID-19 cases in *** proposed model was enforced to obtain estimates of important quantities such as the reproductive rate and the average infection period,along with the more likely date when the pandemic peak may *** under-reporting scenarios were considered in the simulation study,showing how impacting is the lack of information in the modeling.

Acute calculous cholecystitis(ACC) is the most frequent complication of cholelithiasis and represents one-third of all surgical emergency hospital admissions, many aspects of the disease are still a matter of debate. Knowledge of the current evidence may allow the surgical team to develop practical bedside decision-making strategies, aiming at a less demanding procedure and lower frequency of complications. In this regard, recommendations on the diagnosis supported by specific criteria and severity scores are being implemented, to prioritize patients eligible for urgency surgery. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the best treatment for ACC and the procedure should ideally be performed within 72h. Early surgery is associated with better results in comparison to delayed surgery. In addition, when to suspect associated common bile duct stones and how to treat them when found are still debated. The antimicrobial agents are indicated for high-risk patients and especially in the presence of gallbladder necrosis. The use of broad-spectrum antibiotics and in some cases with antifungal agents is related to better prognosis. Moreover, an emerging strategy of not converting to open, a difficult laparoscopic cholecystectomy and performing a subtotal cholecystectomy is recommended by adept surgical teams. Some authors support the use of percutaneous cholecystostomy as an alternative emergency treatment for acute Cholecystitis for patients with severe comorbidities.

Analysis of the Identification of Local Agriculture Products in the Municipality of Aileu, Manufahi, and Ainaro That Have Potential for Export and Attract Foreign Investments in Agricultural Sector

The objective of this study is to identify and collect information on local agriculture products and identify local potential agriculture and livestock that can attract foreign investments. Used Stratified Random Sampling and data was collected from both primary and secondary data (both quantitative and qualitative data. The data analyzed used qualitative and quantitative analysis. The supply chain analysis was carried out to develop a description of the value chain to identify potential high-value market areas and current and potential products in the domestic and export markets. The results of the study revealed that most farmers in the research location grow different types of crops and livestock. In particular for Aileu and Ainaro where most of the areas are up-land, therefore, horticulture crops (mustard, cabbage, carrots, and tomato) and coffee are dominated in these areas. For Manufahi, some parts are lowland areas, where most crops grown are maize, cassava, and paddy rice. The study reveals that local potential agriculture products and livestock in the municipalities of Aileu, Ainaro, and Manufahi are vegetable, coffee, maize, and paddy rice, banana, shallot, tangerine, cabbage, carrot, cattle, mung-bean, and banana. To accelerate economic growth, in these municipalities, there is a need to modernize agricultural production, requiring markets for both inputs supply and for the sale of output products. Opportunities to increase the productivity of these products are feasible and this can be done through the use of high-variety seeds and better farm management, and the government and private sector can play an important role in improving productivity as this will have a further implication in improving food security.

Nutritional Status and Total Phenols of Passiflora Genotypes Related to Nitrogen Fertilization

This paper was developed in order to verify the influence of nitrogen fertilization and different genotypes in the nutritional aspect and in the production of total phenols in passifloraceae. The experimental design was randomized blocks in a 5 × 2 × 2 factorial scheme, being five genotypes of Passiflora (three genotypes of Passiflora edulis, a genotype of Passiflora alata and a genotype of Passiflora ligularis), two levels of cow manure (with and without) and two doses of N (20 and 80 g), with four replicates. At 120 days after sowing, levels of foliar nutrient and total phenols were determined. Foliar N content varied depending on N doses, organic fertilization and the genotypes used. Foliar levels of P and K were higher when all genotypes received organic fertilization, while the levels of Fe and Mn were similar regardless of this fertilization. The levels of Ca and Mg were higher related to organic fertilization and the genotypes, in isolation. But the foliar contents of S, Zn and Cu increased only in relation to the used genotypes, and the average foliar content of total phenols found was 19.4 g·kg-1, ranging from 13.1 to 23.2 g·kg-1, being the lowest value observed in Passiflora alata without fertilization with cow manure. It is concluded that the nutritional requirement for N is greater for genotypes of the species Passiflora edulis in relation to the species Passiflora alata and Passiflora ligulares, and that the organic fertilization influences positively in the production of total phenols only for the genotype of sweet passion fruit.

Microbiological Quality, Transmission of Resistant Bacteria, and Genetic Characterization in Fish Sold in Town Fairs in the Recôncavo da Bahia Region, Brazil

Informal fish marketing is an important source of food and income for many families. However, it is also a public health issue, since the quality of fish can be compromised during marketing. The microbiological quality of fish sold in town fairs in the municipalities of the Bahia Reconcavo region, Brazil, was assessed to characterize isolates based on antimicrobial susceptibility and to investigate gene virulence. Samples of mullets (Mugil sp.), mussels (Mytella sp.), and mollusks (Anomalocardia brasiliana) were collected in town fairs in the municipalities of Cachoeira, Cruz das Almas, and Santo Ant ?nio de jesus. The presence of mesophylls, molds and yeasts, total coliforms, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus was evaluated. E. coli and S. aureus isolates were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility tests and the presence of the gene stx in E. coli isolates was investigated. Total coliforms and S. aureus ranged between 0 and 9.50 log CFU/g, while high counts of mesophylls, molds, and yeasts were detected. E. coli had greater resistance (76.8%) to amoxicillin and S. aureus had greater sensitivity to gentamicin. The stx gene was not identified in any of the samples studied. Results showed that some fish sold in the town fairs of the three municipalities possessed unsatisfactory microbiological quality, which may pose risks to consumer health, and may be vectors for the dissemination of bacteria resistant to different antimicrobial agents.

Use of Medicinal Cannabis for Palliative Care Patients: A Systematic Review

Background: Medical cannabis is a rapidly growing area of medicine. In this sense, due to the numerous benefits associated with its use, it has been increasingly proposed for patients in palliative care, in which the improvement of debilitating symptoms is directly associated with better quality of life. However, due to the complexity of treatments for these individuals, further studies are needed to determine the best possible prescription for them. Objective: Understand the endocannabinoid system and evaluate the feasibility of using medical cannabis in palliative care patients. Methods: Systematic literature review, addressing the following topics: “cancer, cannabis, and palliative care”. The search was carried out using the Virtual Health Library: Lilacs, SciELO, Medline, PubMed, and Cochrane, with articles between 2013 and 2022. Results and discussion: A total of 116 articles were found with the descriptors. After reading the abstracts, 22 showed greater association with the theme and were chosen for the preparation of this review. Conclusion: It is concluded that medical cannabis is an excellent treatment option for most of the symptoms present in patients in palliative care. In this way, the adoption of this drug by the public becomes logical. However, it is the physician’s role to seek to understand the particularities of these individuals and this new possibility of treatment, which, it seems, will significantly improve the end of life of these patients—this being the main role of the medical teams.

Clostridium difficile is a nosocomial enteric pathogen, considered the main etiological agent of antibiotic-associated diarrhea in hospitals. C. difficile is resistant to several antimicrobial agents used in empiric treatment protocols, which confers selective advantages to this species as compared with other members of the intestinal microbiota. The aim of this study was to evaluate and identify possible alterations of the intestinal microbiota population resulting from the use of antimicrobials associated with infections by C. difficile (CDI). Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE) was used to evaluate fecal samples from two groups: healthy subjects and patients with C. difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD). A decrease in bacterial diversity was highlighted by the low number of bands in samples from CDAD patients, compared with healthy subjects. This may indicate that antibiotic treatment would affect bacterial diversity, leading to a significant difference between the intestinal microbiota of these two groups, but further studies are still needed. Firmicutes and Verrucomicrobia phyla were detected mainly in healthy individuals, and these could be related to protection factors against the CDI. Klebsiella variicola/K. pneumoniae were found mostly in samples from CDI patients. This study shows the effects of antimicrobials and the CDI itself on human intestinal microbiota.

The Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi is a native plant of South America popularly known in Brazil as aroeira. It is a medium-sized plant, which demonstrates a high adaptive potential in various environments, besides having various medicinal properties such as anti-inflammatory and antidiarrheal. Bacterial susceptibility tests were carried out and the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was obtained. The results were interpreted based on the conventionally microbiological protocols and data from the CLSI. For the microbiological tests, microorganisms obtained from the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC), specifically, (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Encherichia coli) were used. Of the tested bacterial strains, only the Staphylococcus aureus 6538 presented susceptibility to the aroeira’s hydroalcoholic extract, forming zones of inhibition of 8.0 mm of diameter up to the MIC of 35.3 mg/mL, while the other tested strains showed to be resistant in all the concentrations of hydroalcoholic extract of the Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi bark. Our aim is to analyze the “in vitro” antibacterial potential of the 70% hydroalcoholic extract of the Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi.
