Solid state nMR was successfully used to determine the proton spin-lattice relaxation time in the rotating frame (T1ρH) for systems based on polypropylene (PP) and PP with titanium dioxide (TiO2) organically modified or unmodified incorporated, in order to understand the molecular behavior of these systems. These techniques were employed in the samples organically modified and unmodified TiO2 to investigate the effect of organic modification on the dispersion and distribution of the particles in the PP matrix. The results were analyzed in terms of the effect of the particles organic modified or not according to the intermolecular interaction in the composites. According to the T1ρH values, all composites showed at least two domains: the short values were related to the rigid part, which included the crystalline and amorphous phase constricted in it, while the longer times were attributed to the amorphous region, which had higher molecular mobility compared to the rigid region of the materials. The increase in the relaxation time parameter in the composites compared to the pure PP was associated to the strong interaction between titanium dioxide particles and the polymer chains. This effect was more pronounced for the systems containing organically modified TiO2. According to the results, it could be inferred that intermolecular interaction occurred in the CH2 and CH groups, being more intense with CH2 groups. Finally, the solid state nMR techniques were able to evaluate the molecular dynamics of those systems.

Background:Ruminants rely upon a complex community of microbes in their rumen to convert host-indigestible feed into ***,little is known about the association between the rumen microbiota and feed efficiency traits in nellore(Bos indicus)cattle,a breed of major economic importance to the global beef ***,we compare the composition of the bacterial,archaeal and fungal communities in the rumen of nellore steers with high and low feed efficiency(FE)phenotypes,as measured by residual feed intake(RFI).Results:The Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio was significantly higher(Pn positive-RFI steers(p-RFI,low feed efficiency)than in negative-RFI(n-RFI,high feed efficiency)*** differences in bacterial composition from steers with high and low FE were mainly associated with members of the families Lachnospiraceae,Ruminococcaceae and Christensenellaceae,as well as the genus *** community richness was lower(Pn p-RFI than in n-RFI steers and the genus Methanobrevibacter was either increased or exclusive of p-RFI *** fungal genus Buwchfawromyces was more abundant in the rumen solid fraction of n-RFI steers(Pnd a highly abundant OTU belonging to the genus Piromyces was also increased in the rumen microbiota of highefficiency ***,analysis of rumen fermentation variables and functional predictions indicated similar metabolic outputs for the microbiota of distinct FE ***:Our results demonstrate that differences in the ruminal microbiota of high and low FE nellore steers comprise specific taxa from the bacterial,archaeal and fungal *** OTUs belonging to the genus Piromyces were identified in animals showing high feed efficiency,whereas among archaea,Methanobrevibacter was associated with steers classified as *** identification of specific RFI-associated microorganisms in nellore steers could guide further studies targeting the isolation and functional characterization

The family farm of the Upper Solim?es region has maintained the great genetic variability of the pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima Duchesne) by the in situ conservation of the landraces which are widely used as human food. The aim of this study was to estimate the current level of genetic variability of pumpkin landraces by means of estimation techniques of genetic parameters. Landraces areas samples were the family farming production units located in floodplains ecosystems of Benjamin Constant (Upper Solim?es River) and Iranduba (Lower Solim?es River), Amazonas. The split-plot designs were adopted at the treatments where the main plots were the five pumpkin landraces and one commercial cultivar. Each landrace was obtained six half sib families distributed in the sub-plots. Among the results of this study, it can be concluded that the genetic variation within the each landrace is greater than the genetic variation among the landraces. The qualitative morphological characteristics bring together half-sib families collected in geographically distant locations. It can be concluded that, through the estimation of genetic parameters, there is genetic variability among local cultivars collected in family farming of Benjamin Constant and Iranduba, Amazonas.

Background: Oral cancer presents a heterogeneous geographic incidence. Annually, more than 275,000 new cases are diagnosed worldwide. In spite of the easy accessibility of oral cavity during physical examination, most malignancies are not diagnosed until late stages of disease. Methods: Oral health promotion was our main objective, risk factors were identified and oral cavity self-examination was promoted. The population considered (n = 1117) was divided in two main age groups—a youngest (individuals under 25 years old) mostly targeted for oral cancer awareness and oral cavity self examination promotion, and an older group having accumulated potential risk exposure. Results: The results obtained revealed smoking habits and fruits-vegetables consumption deficit as the highest risks factors found. Considering a Risk Factor Exposure Index analysis, individuals with secondary level of instruction and living in sub-urban areas assumed the highest risk exposure. Alcohol consumption had also contributed as a significant risk exposure. Conclusions: Some of these risk factors work as biological reward of quality of life deficit. A wide comprehension of the problem requires a multidisciplinary approach necessarily involving Health and Social Sciences in order to target the core of oral cancer health promotion. An effective epidemiological strategy must thus support three major aspects: population knowledge, sensitization and visual screening.

Background: Recently, late umbilical cord clamping is generally recommended, which decreases neonatal anemia;however, it may also increase neonatal jaundice and some other poor outcomes. Objectives: We here attempted to determine whether late clamping actually increases the incidence of phototherapy for jaundice and other poor outcomes of the term “low-risk newborns”. Methods: With the approval of the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (REBEC), a total of 357 low-risk newborns (singleton, uncomplicated pregnancy/delivery, in a Brazilian public institution) were randomized into two groups: group I (n = 114): cord clamping 1 minute (early clamping) or group II (n = 243): cord clamping between 1 - 3 minutes (late clamping). Statistics were used appropriately (i.e., measures of central tendency, dispersion for continuous variables, Shapiro-Wilk, Mann-Whitney test, or Chi-square test). Results: Phototherapy was performed in 5.3% in both groups. Also, there were no statistical differences in the occurrence of secondary outcomes, such as sepsis, neonatal ICU admission, and transient tachypnea of the newborns: i.e., 0.9%, 15.8%, and 3.5%, respectively for group I versus 1.2%, 15.6%, and 5.8%, respectively for group II. Conclusion: Late umbilical cord clamping does not increase the need for phototherapy in low-risk neonates. This result corroborates the current recommendation of late cord clamping, whenever appropriate.

为建立BMY牛的活体采卵(OPU)-体外胚胎生产(IVP)-胚胎移植(ET)快速扩繁技术体系,从人工草地全放牧牛群中选择健康的经产空怀BMY牛作为供体(n=14)集中OPU一次;卵母细胞经TCM-199体外成熟培养(IVM)、Fert-TALP液体外受精(IVF),受精卵用合成输卵管液(SOF)体外培养(IVC)生产胚胎;BMY牛受体(n=81)用CUE-MATETM孕酮阴道栓+EB+FSH+PG方法同期发情处理,对黄体合格的移植OPU-IVP来源鲜胚。研究结果表明:①OPU头均获卵母细胞23.50枚,获10枚以上卵母细胞的供体占85.7%;IVP的平均囊胚数和可用胚数分别为5.21和4.00枚;OPU前8～9d卵巢上有黄体(CL)的供体,头均获卵母细胞数及IVP的囊胚数、可移植胚数、囊胚率和可移植胚率分别比对照组高7.28枚(PnRH,其妊娠率比对照组高16.2%(P>0.05)。结果显示,BMY母牛具有良好的OPU潜力,但个体间差异较大;可通过严格供体选择及改善IVP技术等措施,实现OPU-IVP效率最大化。CUE-MATETM+EB+FSH+PG同期发情处理方法适于在牛规模化胚胎移植(ET)和人工授精(AI)中应用。综合应用OPU、IVP、同期发情和ET技术是加快优良BMY牛扩繁的重要途径之一。

BACKGROUnD Low bone mineral density(BMD)is common in patients with inflammatory bowel ***,nutritional risk factors for low BMD in the ulcerative colitis(UC)population are still poorly *** To investigate the association of anthropometric indicators and body composition with BMD in patients with *** This is a cross-sectional study on adult UC patients of both genders who were followed on an outpatient basis.A control group consisting of healthy volunteers,family members,and close people was also *** nutritional indicators evaluated were body mass index(BMI),total body mass(TBM),waist circumference(WC),body fat in kg(BFkg),body fat in percentage(BF%),trunk BF(TBF),and also lean *** composition and BMD assessments were performed by dual-energy X-ray *** The sociodemographic characteristics of patients with UC(n=68)were similar to those of healthy volunteers(n=66)(P>0.05).Most patients(97.0%)were in remission of the disease,58.8%were eutrophic,33.8%were overweight,39.0%had high WC,and 67.6%had excess BF%.However,mean BMI,WC,BFkg,and TBF of UC patients were lower when compared to those of the control group(Pnt in 41.2%of patients with UC(38.2%with osteopenia and 2.9%with osteoporosis)and 3.0%in the control group(Pnts with low BMD had lower BMI,TBM,and BFkg values than those with normal BMD(Pnts were more likely to have low BMD(prevalence ratio[PR]=1.86;95%confidence interval[CI]:1.07-3.26).Those with excess weight(PR=0.43;95%CI:0.19-0.97)and high WC(PR=0.44;95%CI:0.21-0.94)were less likely to have low *** Patients with UC in remission have a high prevalence of metabolic bone *** fat appears to protect against the development of low BMD in these patients.

Primary adenocarcinoma of the small intestine occurs in over 50% of cases in the duodenum. However,its location in the third and fourth duodenal portions occurs rarely and is a diagnostic challenge. The aim of this work is to report an adenocarcinoma of the third and fourth duodenal portions,emphasizing its diagnostic difficulty and the value of video capsule endoscopy. A man,40 years old,with no medical history,with abdominal discomfort and progressive fatigue,presented four months ago with one episode o f m o d e ra t e m e l e n a. T h e p hy s i c a l e x a m i n a t i o n was normal,except for mucosal pallor. Blood tests were consistent with microcytic,hypochromic iron deficiency anemia with 7.8 g/d L hemoglobin. The upper and lower endoscopy were normal. Additional work-up with video capsule endoscopy showed a polypoid lesion involving the third and fourth portions o f t h e d u o d e n u m. B i o p s y s h o w e d a m o d e ra t e l y differentiated adenocarcinoma. Abdominal computed tomography showed a wall thickening from the third duodenal portion to the proximal jejunum,without distant metastasis. The patient underwent segmental resection(distal duodenum and proximal jejunum) with duodenojejunostomy. The surgical specimen histology confirmed the biopsy diagnosis,with transmural infiltration,without nodal involvement. Conclusion: Adenocarcinoma of the third and fourth portions of the duodenum is difficult to diagnose and capsule endoscopy is of great value.
