Tunable super-structured Fiber Bragg Gratings with Perfect sequences Based on m-sequence

recently, a tunable fiber Bragg grating(FBG) was developed by using stress-responsive colloidal crystals. In this paper, we have simulated the application of these nanoparticles into the super-structured fiber Bragg grating(ssFBG) written with perfect sequences derived from a short maximal-length sequence. A tunable ssFBG will be available to overcome the prohibitive temperature variation of the optical codecs. Nevertheless,we presented a method to implement coherent time spreading optical code-division multiple-access(OCDmA) where a unique code(or perfect sequence) can be reused and mixed with different wavelengths to obtain a tunable wavelength-division multiplexing(WDm)system. In order to maximize the binary throughput, we have selected a unique short maximal-length sequence composed of 7 chips that can be tuned with 7 different optical wavelengths. We found thousands of different tunable combinations that presented power contrast ratios(P/C) higher than 12 dB. When a WDm-OCDmA system used 2 different combinations simultaneously, the perfect binary detection with error correction codes was achieved successfully. The tunable ssFBG with colloidal crystals will be a simple and good alternative choice for fiber-to-the-home(FTTH) communications.

The complex meniscus tissue plays a critical role in the knee. The high susceptibility to injury has led to an intense pursuit for better tissue engineering regenerative strategies, where scaffolds play a major role. In this study, indirect printed hierarchical multilayered sca ffolds composed by a silk fibroin (sF) upper layer and an 80/20 (w/w) ratio of sF/ionic-doped β-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) bottom layer were developed. Furthermore, a comparative analysis between two types of sca ffolds pro- duced using di fferent sF concentrations, i.e., 8% (w/v) (Hi8) and 16% (w/v) (Hi16) was performed. In terms of architecture and morphology, the produced sca ffolds presented homogeneous porosity in both layers and no di fferences were observed when comparing both sca ffolds. A decrease in terms of mechanical performance of the sca ffolds was observed when sF concentration decreased from 16 to 8% (w/v). Hi16 revealed a static compressive modulus of 0.66 ± 0.05 mPa and dynamical mechanical properties ranging from 2.17 ± 0.25 to 3.19 ± 0.38 mPa. By its turn, Hi8 presented a compressive modulus of 0.27 ± 0.08 mPa and dynamical mechanical properties ranging from 1.03 ± 0.08 mPa to 1.56 ± 0.13 mPa. In vitro bioactivity studies showed formation of apatite crystals onto the surface of Hi8 and Hi16 bottom layers. Human meniscus cells (hmCs) and human primary osteoblasts were cultured separately onto the top layer (sF8 and sF16) and bottom layer (sF8/TCP and sF16/TCP) of the hierarchical sca ffolds Hi8 and Hi16, respectively. Both cell types showed good adhesion and proliferation as denoted by the live/dead staining, Alamar Blue assay and DNA quanti fication analysis. subcutaneous implantation in mice revealed weak in flammation and sca ffold’s integrity. A multiobjective routing model for multiprotocol Label switching networks with multiple service types and traffic splitting is presented in this paper. The routing problem is formulated as a multiobjective mixed-integer program, where the considered objectives are the minimization of the bandwidth routing cost and the minimization of the load cost in the network links with a constraint on the maximal splitting of traffic trunks. Two different exact methods are developed for solving the formulated problem, one based on the classical constraint method and another based on a modified constraint method. A very extensive experimental study, with results on network performance measures in various reference test networks and in randomly generated networks, is also presented and its results are discussed.

mitigating adjacent channel interference in vehicular communication systems

In the last few decades, dedicated wireless channels were specifically allocated to enable the development and implementation of vehicular communication systems. The two main protocol stacks, the WAVE stan- dards proposed by the IEEE in the United states and the ETsI ITs-G5 in Europe, reserved 10 mHz wide channels in the 5.9 GHz spectrum band. Despite the exclusive use of these frequencies for vehicular com- munication purposes, there are still cross channel interference problems that have been widely reported in the literature. In order to mitigate these issues, this paper presents the design of a two-stage FIr low-pass filter, targeting the integration with a digital baseband receiver chain of a custom vehicular communications platform. The filter was tested, evaluated and optimized, with the simulation results proving the effectiveness of the proposed method and the low delay introduced in the overall operation of the receiver chain. 2016 Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications. One of the possible ways to optimize the productive performance of poultry is through the physical processing of ingredients,which can improve the use of nutrients in these *** this context,this study was to evaluate the effects of different corn particle sizes in diets on the productive performance and egg quality of semi-heavy laying *** naked neck laying hens were used from 24 weeks of age and distributed in a completely randomized *** diets in different treatments contained corn grain ground into sieves with a diameter of 2,4,or 8 mm to provide corn particles with a geometric mean diameter(GmD) of 605(fine),1,030(medium),and 2,280 μm(coarse),*** feed and leftovers were weighed daily throughout the experimental period to determine the feed intake and feed *** corn particle sizes did not affect any aspect of the productive performance of hens,except for feed *** fed fine and medium corn particles exhibited higher values for egg yolk color,eggshell weight,and eggshell *** is suggested that semi-heavy laying hens should be fed mash diets containing corn particles with GmD from 605 to 1,030 μm,because coarse corn particles cause a negative effect on eggshell quality.

Tailoring the partitioning of proteins using ionic liquids as adjuvants in polymer-polymer aqueous biphasic systems

Aqueous biphasic systems(ABs)are promising for proteins purification;however,when dealing with samples comprising several proteins,the selectivity towards a target protein is difficult to *** this work,the addition of ionic liquids(ILs)as adjuvants(5 wt%and 10 wt%)in ABs composed of polyethylene glycol(PEG)and dextran was investigated to tailor proteins partitioning between the coexisting *** liquid-liquid phase diagrams were determined at 298 K,followed by partition studies of three proteins(bovine serum albumin(BsA),immunoglobulin G(IgG),and cytochrome C(Cyt C)).Partition coefficients of IgG and BsA indicate the preference of both proteins to the dextran-rich phase,whereas Cyt C has no preferential partitioning between the *** addition of chloride-based ILs as adjuvants allows to increase or decrease the partition coefficients,thus tailoring the proteins partitioning between the *** partitioning essentially depends on the IL content in each phase,whereas Cyt C and IgG partitioning is ruled by the ILs chemical structure and established *** docking was carried out to address the ILs effect on the proteins partitioning,supporting experimental observations,while identifying the specific interactions *** partition of each protein in polymer-salt ABs with ILs as adjuvants was determined,demonstrating the higher tailoring ability of polymer-polymer ABs when adding ***,the partition of each protein in presence of the remaining ones was determined,as well as the selectivity of the studied systems to separate each pair of proteins,paving the way for their use in liquidliquid chromatography.

Placental-derived stem cells:Culture, differentiation and challenges

stem cell therapy is a promising approach to clinical healing in several diseases. A great variety of tissues(bone marrow, adipose tissue, and placenta) arepotentially sources of stem cells. Placenta-derived stem cells(p-sCs) are in between embryonic and mesenchymal stem cells, sharing characteristics with both, such as non-carcinogenic status and property to differentiate in all embryonic germ layers. moreover, their use is not ethically restricted as fetal membranes are considered medical waste after birth. In this context, the present review will be focused on the biological properties, culture and potential cell therapy uses of placental-derived stem cells. Immunophenotype characterization, mainly for surface marker expression, and basic principles of p-sC isolation and culture(mechanical separation or enzymatic digestion of the tissues, the most used culture media, cell plating conditions) will be presented. In addition, some preclinical studies that were performed in different medical areas will be cited, focusing on neurological, liver, pancreatic, heart, muscle, pulmonary, and bone diseases and also in tissue engineering field. Finally, some challenges for stem cell therapy applications will be highlighted. The understanding of the mechanisms involved in the p-sCs differentiation and the achievement of pure cell populations(after differentiation) are key points that must be clarified before bringing the preclinical studies, performed at the bench, to the medical practice.
