Ephedroid macrofossils have been widely documented in Cretaceous deposits,including numerous from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation of NE ***,few ephedroid macrofossils have been reported from South ***,we describe a new plant of the family Ephedraceae,Arlenea delicata *** ***.,from the Lower Cretaceous Crato Formation of the Araripe Basin,Northeast Brazil,based on the vegetative and reproductive *** has the typical morphological characteristics of ephedroid plants,including fertile reproductive branches,opposite phyllotaxy,terminal female cones,a sympodial branching system,longitudinally striated internodes,and swollen *** new finding is unusual in having inner chlamydosperms subtended by two pairs of bracts,reproductive units connected to branches through swollen receptacles and a smooth seed *** new ephedroid taxon from the Crato Formation increases our understanding of plant diversity of this group during the Early ***,the general morphology(fleshy bracts and enlarged receptacles)of this new fossil discovery indicates that seeds of this plant may have been dispersed by animals such as pterosaurs(mainly the Tapejaridae)and birds(Enantiornithes and Ornituromorpha).If true,this would explain the cosmopolitan distribution of Ephedraceae in the Lower Cretaceous.

Background：Due to high neutral lipids accumulation in the cytoplasm,in vitro-produced embryos from Bos primigenius indicus and their crosses are more sensitive to chilling and cryopreservation than those from Bos primigenius *** objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of trans-10,cis-12 conjugated linoleic acid（CLA） on the development and cryotolerance of crossbred Bos primigenius taurus x Bos primigenius indicus embryos produced in vitro,and cultured in the presence of fetal calf *** zygotes（n = 1,692）were randomly assigned to one of the following treatment groups：1） Control,zygotes cultured in Charles Rosenkrans 2 amino acid（CR2aa） medium（n = 815） or 2） CLA,zygotes cultured in CR2 aa medium supplemented with 100 μmol/L of trans-10,cis-12 CLA（n =877）.Embryo development（cleavage and blastocyst rates evaluated at days 3 and 8 of culture,respectively）,lipid content at morula stage（day 5） and blastocyst cryotolerance（re-expansion and hatching rates,evaluated 24 and 72 h post-thawing,respectively） were compared between ***,selected mRNA transcripts were measured by Real-Time PCR in blastocyst ***：The CLA treatment had no effect on cleavage and blastocyst rates,or on mRNA levels for genes related to cellular stress and *** the other hand,abundance of mRNA for the 1-acylglycerol-3-phosphate0-acyltransferase-encoding gene（AGPAT）,which is involved in triglycerides synthesis,and consequently neutral lipid content,were reduced by CLA treatment.A significant increase was observed in the re-expansion rate of embryos cultured with trans-10,cis-12 CLA when compared to control（56.3 vs.34.4%,respectively,P = 0.002）.However,this difference was not observed in the hatching rate（16.5 vs.14.0%,respectively,P=0.62）.Conclusions：The supplementation with trans-10,ds-12 CLA isomer in culture medium reduced the lipid content of in vitro produced bovine embryos by reducing the gene expression of 1-acylglycerol 3-phosphate 0

Comparing shoulder maneuvers to magnetic resonance imaging and arthroscopic findings in patients with supraspinatus tears

BACKGROUND Shoulder maneuvers and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)are performed to diagnose supraspinatus tendon tears regardless of arthroscopy *** there are many studies on this subject,there is a lack of studies comparing the sensitivity(Se)and specificity(Sp)of shoulder maneuvers and MRI to arthroscopic findings(intact,partial,or full thickness supraspinatus tendon tear).AIM To compare the diagnostic values of shoulder maneuvers with MRI for supraspinatus tendon tears in patients undergoing shoulder *** A total of 199 consecutive patients from four orthopedic centers met the eligibility criteria of shoulder pain persisting for at least four *** were prospectively enrolled in this study from April 2017 to April *** clinical tests(full can,empty can,drop arm,Hawkins’,painful arc,Neer’s sign and resisted external rotation)and MRI were performed,and all were compared with surgical *** can,empty can and resisted external rotation tests were interpreted as positive in the case of pain and/or *** assessed the Se,Sp,accuracy,positive predictive value(PPV)and negative predictive value(NPV),positive and negative likelihood ratio and diagnostic odds ratio for overall,partial and fullthickness supraspinatus *** MRI had the highest Se for overall(0.97),partial(0.91)and full-thickness(0.99)tears;moreover,MRI had the highest NPV:0.90,0.88 and 0.98 for overall,partial and full-thickness tears,*** overall supraspinatus tears,the Se and PPV were:Painful arc(Se=0.85/PPV=0.91),empty can(pain)(Se=0.80/PPV=0.89),full can(pain)(Se=0.78/PPV=0.90),resisted external rotation(pain)(Se=0.48/PPV=0.87),drop arm(Se=0.19/PPV=0.97),Neer’s sign(Se=0.78/PPV=0.93)and Hawkins’(Se=0.80/PPV=0.88).MRI had the highest PPV(0.99).The Hawkin’s test had the highest false positive rate in patients with intact tendons(0.36).The Sp of the empty can and full can(both tests positive for pain and weakness),drop arm and MRI were:0.93,

The Behavior of Zeta Potential of Silica Suspensions

Zeta potential is one of the most relevant parameters controlling the rheological behavior of ceramic suspensions. In this work, it was observed that for pH values below the isoelectric point (IEP), the positive value of zeta potential of water suspensions of α-quartz and α-cristobalite, experiences a sudden steep increase with the increase in specific surface area of the powders. For pH values above the IEP, the zeta potential values of crystalline forms of silica (α-quartz and α-cristobalite), get gradually more negative with the increase in pH. Conversely in the case of vitreous silica, for pH values above 6, there occurs a steep change towards more negative values of zeta potential than those presented by quartz and cristobalite. These findings have not yet been accounted for in the DLVO theory but may provide subsidies for better understanding of how to stabilize and destabilize crystalline and vitreous silica water suspensions.

Coarse corn particles cause a negative effect on eggshell quality of semi-heavy laying hens

One of the possible ways to optimize the productive performance of poultry is through the physical processing of ingredients,which can improve the use of nutrients in these *** this context,this study was to evaluate the effects of different corn particle sizes in diets on the productive performance and egg quality of semi-heavy laying *** naked neck laying hens were used from 24 weeks of age and distributed in a completely randomized *** diets in different treatments contained corn grain ground into sieves with a diameter of 2,4,or 8 mm to provide corn particles with a geometric mean diameter(GMD) of 605(fine),1,030(medium),and 2,280 μm(coarse),*** feed and leftovers were weighed daily throughout the experimental period to determine the feed intake and feed *** corn particle sizes did not affect any aspect of the productive performance of hens,except for feed *** fed fine and medium corn particles exhibited higher values for egg yolk color,eggshell weight,and eggshell *** is suggested that semi-heavy laying hens should be fed mash diets containing corn particles with GMD from 605 to 1,030 μm,because coarse corn particles cause a negative effect on eggshell quality.

Antiglycation and antioxidant activities of the crude extract and saponin fraction of Tribulus terrestris before and after microcapsule release

Objective:The present study investigated antiglycation and antioxidant activities of crude dry extract and saponin fraction of Tribulus *** also developed a method of microencapsulation and evaluated antiglycation and antioxidant activities of crude dry extract and saponin fraction before and after microcapsule ***:Antiglycation activity was determined by relative electrophoretic mobility(REM),free amino groups and inhibition of advanced glycation end-product(AGE)*** activity was determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH),ferric ion-reducing antioxidant power(FRAP),nitric oxide(NO)and thiobarbituric acid reactive species(TBARS)*** were prepared using maltodextrin as wall material and freeze-drying as encapsulation *** characterization of microcapsules was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy,and encapsulation efficiency and microcapsule release were determined by total saponins *** and antioxidant assays were performed using crude dry extract and saponin fraction of *** before and after ***:Saponin fraction showed an increase of 32.8%total ***-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis showed the presence of saponins in the obtained *** evaluation by REM demonstrated that samples before and after release presented antiglycation activity similar to bovine serum albumin treated with ***,samples inhibited AGE formation,highlighting treatment with saponin fraction after release(89.89%).Antioxidant tests demonstrated antioxidant activity of the *** dry extract before encapsulation presented the highest activities in DPPH(92.00%)and TBARS(32.49%)*** fraction before encapsulation in FRAP test(499μmol Trolox equivalent per gram of dry sample)and NO test(15.13μmol nitrite formed per gram of extract)presented the highest ***:This study presen

Mobile Robot Indoor Autonomous Navigation with Position Estimation Using RF Signal Triangulation

In the mobile robotic systems a precise estimate of the robot pose (Cartesian [x y] position plus orientation angle theta) with the intention of the path planning optimization is essential for the correct performance, on the part of the robots, for tasks that are destined to it, especially when intention is for mobile robot autonomous navigation. This work uses a ToF (Time-of-Flight) of the RF digital signal interacting with beacons for computational triangulation in the way to provide a pose estimative at bi-dimensional indoor environment, where GPS system is out of range. It’s a new technology utilization making good use of old ultrasonic ToF methodology that takes advantage of high performance multicore DSP processors to calculate ToF of the order about ns. Sensors data like odometry, compass and the result of triangulation Cartesian estimative, are fused in a Kalman filter in the way to perform optimal estimation and correct robot pose. A mobile robot platform with differential drive and nonholonomic constraints is used as base for state space, plants and measurements models that are used in the simulations and for validation the experiments.

Feasibility of Wind Power Generation for the Reduction of Power Costs in Residential Buildings

The installation of wind power generators on buildings located in areas with regular winds may be a suitable investment in a renewable power source. Brazil has a high eolic potential, where the annual mean wind speed may reach over eight meters per second. This case study is aimed to assess the economic feasibility of the installation of small wind power plants in urban areas. This work evaluates a project for the installation of a vertical axis wind turbine in three buildings （15-, 22-, and 26-story） including the following stages：（1） installation of a real-time power meter in the 15-store unit; （2） demand analysis of the 26-store building＇s power consumption; （3） winds survey along the coast of the State of Ceara; （4） analysis of the wind turbines available in the market; （5） simulation aimed to choose the system. Vertical wind power generators offer better conditions of use in urban areas. The turnover time was established to be between four and six years in the three studied units. The installation of a wind power generator on buildings in regions with an adequate eolic regimen reaches a financial return of the investment before the end of the equipment＇s lifespan.

Development of a Methodology for Determination and Analysis of Thermal Displacements of Machine Tools Using Finite Elements Method and Artificial Neural Network

In the processes of manufacturing, MT （machine tools） plays an important role in the manufacture of work pieces with complex and high dimensional and geometric accuracy. Much of the errors of a machine tool are those which are thermally induced which are from internal and external heat sources acting on the machine. In this paper, a methodology for determining and analyzing the thermal deformation of machine tools using FEM （finite element method） and ANN （artificial neural networks） is presented. After modeling the machine using FEM is defined the location of the heat sources, it is possible to obtain the temperature gradient and the corresponding thermal deformation at predetermined periods. Results obtained with simulations using the software NX.7.5 showed that this methodology is an effective tool in determining the thermal deformation of the machine, correlating the temperature reading at strategic points with volumetric deformation at the tool tip. Therefore, the thermal analysis of the errors in the pair tool part can be established. After training and validation process, the network will be able to make the prediction of thermal errors just stating the temperature values of specific points of each heat source, providing a way for compensation of thermally induced errors.

Persistent Xerophthalmia in a Patient with Rheumatological Disease and Priiviary Sjogren’s Syndrome: Case Report from Northern Brazil

This case study aims to contribute to the literature in order to highlight the importance of this collaboration between medical specialties. A female patient R.N.N. F, age 66, from the city of Manaus, with a previous diagnosis of Sjogren’s syndrome in regular follow-up by the Rheumatology team at the Araujo Lima outpatient clinic and referred to the Ophthalmology sector for complementary evaluation related to visual discomfort. The fundoscopy performed in the patient was within normal limits, but the symptoms experienced by her proved to be an important clinical finding, which has ratified the need for regular and multidisciplinary follow-up. This report unequivocally demonstrates that even in the face of tests considered within the expected limits for a given population, the clinical presentation can be specific and particular for each analyzed individual. Early screening exams should contemplate the patient in a holistic and individualized way whenever possible.
