ABSTRACT This paper discusses the adoption of Artificial Intelligence-based techniques to estimate seismic damage,not with the goal of replacing existing approaches,but as a mean to improve the precision of empirical *** such,damage data collected in the aftermath of the 1998 Azores earthquake(portugal)is used to develop a comparative analysis between damage grades obtained resorting to a classic damage formulation and an innovative approach based on Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs).The analysis is carried out on the basis of a vulnerability index computed with a hybrid seismic vulnerability asssment methodology,which is subsequently used as input to both *** results obtained are then compared with real post-earthquake damage observation and critically discussed taking into account the level of adjustment achieved by each ***,a computer routine that uses the ANN as an approximation function is developed and applied to derive a new vulnerability curve *** general terms,the ANN developed in this study allowed to obtain much better approximations than those achieved with the original vulnerability approach,which has revealed to be quite ***,the proposed vulnerability curve expression was found to provide a more accurate damage prediction than the traditional analytical expressions.

The biocompatibility of orthopedic implants is closely related to their elastic modulus and surface *** objective of this study was to determine the effects of cold rolling,recrystallization and laser surface melting(LSM)on the microstructure and mechanical properties of a biphase(α″+β)Ti-30Nb-4Sn alloy.X-ray diffraction(XRD)texture analysis of the cold-rolled substrate revealed the[302]α″//ND texture component,while analysis of the recrystallized substrate showed the[302]α″//ND and[110]α″//ND ***β-phase texture could not be directly measured by XRD,but the presence of the[111]β//ND texture component was successfully predicted by considering the orientation relationship between theα″andβ*** measurements showed that the elastic modulus of the cold-rolled substrate(63Gpa)was lower than that of the recrystallized substrate(74Gpa).Based on the available literature and the results presented here,it is suggested that this difference is caused by the introduction of crystal defects during cold *** combined nanoindentation/EBSD analysis showed that the nanoindentation results are not affected by crystal *** of the deformed alloy produced changes in hardness,elastic modulus and crystallographic texture similar to those produced by recrystallization heat treatment,creating a stiffness gradient between surface and substrate.

Tectona grandis L.f. （teak） is native to the Indian subcontinent and southeast Asia, and today is grown in almost every tropical region, for the physical and mechanical properties of its wood. Also, important qualitative aspects render it one of the most expensive wood species in the world. This work presents a study about the physical properties and heat transfer of T. grandis wood from plantations in ***, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Six trees planted at three different intervals were used--two from each planting density--selected at random and with good phytosanitary characteristics, as well as having representative diameters and heights. The following properties were determined： basic and apparent densities, volume contraction, heat transfer and fiber saturation point. The basic and apparent mean general density of the samples was 0.48 g/cm3 and 0.55 g/cm3, respectively. The mean volume contraction of the teak wood was 8.57%. With decreased levels of wood humidity, loss of volume and planting effects were not significant at 5% probability. Mean heat transfer was 7.3 h/cm and the wood fiber saturation point was 17.25%, below the range found in literature, and there was no influence of the planting density on this property. According to the results, it was concluded that planting density significantly influenced the base density of the wood; the same effect does not occur for the other physical properties, and with respect to heat transfer, the wood was considered difficult to dry.

With the expansion of eucalyptus crops to areas with severe water limitations,physiological studies involving eucalyptus clones to identify those that are tolerant to water stress become *** objective of this study was to assess morphological and physiological responses by eucalyptus clones subjected to drought stress and *** experiment consisted of three eucalyptus clones:VC865,I224 and I144 and two water regimes:control and water stress followed by rehydration,with six *** water potential,gas exchange,maximum quantum efficiency of photo systemⅡand plant height and stem diameter were evaluated under drought stress and ***6 d of rehydration,the number of leaves,leaf area and dry mass of root,leaf,stem and their total were *** clones showed intense reduction of gas exchange during the drought stress period,and only VC865 and 1144 showed rapid recovery with 3 d of *** 1224 showed greater reduction in height,stem diameter,number of leaves,water potential at midday(Ψ_(w)_(Midday)),and maximum quantum efficiency of photosystemⅡ(F_(v)/F_(m)).Clones VC865and T144 showed lower reductions inΨ_(wMidday)and F_(v)/F_(m) under ***865 had lower reductions in leaf number,leaf area and higher leaf dry mass,while clone I144 had higher height and lower reduction in root dry mass *** these clones showed higher water use efficiency with 3d of *** different phenotypic plasticities gave the clones VC865 and 1144 efficient mechanisms of acclimatization to stress and more drought tolerance,enhancing their greater capacity for recovery after stress,which allowed lower dry mass *** 1224,however,was more susceptible to drought stress,undergoing greater physiological damage with only partial recovery during rehydration.

In modern volleyball,the middle blocker is regarded as one of the most important players for the tactical organization,because he is frequently requested for both defensive and offensive *** the block action,the coach must always consider the characteristics of the middle blocker,and his intervention should contemplate the ball tempo and the zone where the opposing attack *** purpose of this study is to understand what the movements are that precede the action of the technical gesture of the *** sample consisted of n=4,895 actions representing 30 footages of games from the 1st male volleyball division in the portuguese league from season 2013/*** have analyzed the movements that each middle blocker has performed during the pre-block *** have also recorded the ball tempo on the opposing setter and the zone where the opposing attack *** have established that there is a relationship between the movements performed and the attack zones(p≤0.001),as well as between the movements and the type of setting,in each attack zone(p≤0.001 in all of them).This way,we have determined that the Crossover Step is the most frequent movement,followed by the Drive Step.

This study aimed to show that the physicochemical proprieties obtained by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, thermogravimetry （TG）, and scanning electronic microscopy （SEM） can be useful tools for evaluating the quality of active pharmaceutical ingredients （ApIs） and pharmaceutical products. In addition, a simple, sensitive, and efficient method employing HpLC-DAD was developed for simulta- neous determination of lidocaine （LID）, ciprofloxacin （CFX） and enrofloxacin （EFX） in raw materials and in veterinary pharmaceutical formulations. Compounds were separated using a Gemini Cm （250 mm×4.6 mm, 5μm） phenomenex column, at a temperature of 25℃, with a mobile phase containing 10 mM of phosphoric acid （pH 3.29）： acetonitrile （85.7：14.3, v/v） and a flow rate of 1.5 mL/min. physicochemical characterization by TG, FTIR, and SEM of raw materials of LID, CFX, and EFX provided information useful for the evaluation, differentiation, and qualification of raw materials. Finally, the HpLC method was proved to be useful for evaluation of raw material and finished products, besides satisfying the need for an analytical method that allows simultaneous determination of EFX, CFX, and LID, which can also be extended to other matrices and applications.

The Basidiomycota constitutes a major phylum of the kingdom Fungi and is second in species numbers to the *** present work provides an overview of all validly published,currently used basidiomycete genera to date in a single *** outline of all genera of Basidiomycota is provided,which includes 1928 currently used genera names,with 1263 synonyms,which are distributed in 241 families,68 orders,18 classes and four *** provide brief notes for each accepted genus including information on classification,number of accepted species,type species,life mode,habitat,distribution,and sequence ***,three phylogenetic analyses with combined LSU,SSU,5.8s,rpb1,rpb2,and ef1 datasets for the subphyla Agaricomycotina,pucciniomycotina and Ustilaginomycotina are conducted,*** time estimates are provided to the family level with 632 species from 62 orders,168 families and 605 *** study indicates that the divergence times of the subphyla in Basidiomycota are 406-430 Mya,classes are 211-383 Mya,and orders are 99-323 Mya,which are largely consistent with previous *** this study,all phylogenetically supported families were dated,with the families of Agaricomycotina diverging from 27-178 Mya,pucciniomycotina from 85-222 Mya,and Ustilaginomycotina from 79-177 *** times as additional criterion in ranking provide additional evidence to resolve taxonomic problems in the Basidiomycota taxonomic system,and also provide a better understanding of their phylogeny and evolution.
