Impact of a physical activity program on plasma concentrations of adiponectin, leptin and ghrelin in overweight and obese schoolchildren: A randomized controlled trial

Introduction: Child obesity has important consequences on the child’s health and is related to the risk of developing chronic diseases. That brings up the need for research assessing the impact of obesity-and overweight-reduction programs with close attention to methodology aspects and precise indicators of the impact of such programs. Goal: Assessing the impact of a physical activity program on the plasma concentrations of adiponectin, leptin, and ghrelin in overweight and obese schoolchildren. Methods: Randomized controlled trial, double-blind, with 6-to 9-year-old overweight and obese school-children. A sample of 79 schoolchildren randomly distributed into control and intervention groups was subjected to a physical activity program. The levels of adiponectin, leptin, ghrelin, body mass index, body fat percentage, anthropometry, lipid profile and glycemia were evaluated. The program’s impact was assessed through multivariate linear regression models. Result: When comparing the groups, a significant difference was found for adiponectin, which shows an increase in the proportion of subjects with higher adiponectin concentrations for the intervention group and a reduction in body mass index and body fat percentage. Conclusion: The impact of the intervention program was positive in increasing adiponectin levels associated with a reduction in body mass index and body fat percentage.

Comparison of methodologies for generation of future weather data for building thermal energy simulation

In the last decade,building energy simulation( BES)became a central component in building energy systems’ design and optimization. For each building location,BES requires one year of hourly weather data. Most buildings are designed to last50 + years,consequently,the building design phase should include BES with future weather files considering climate *** paper presents a comparative study of two methods to produce future climate hourly data files for BES: Morphing and typical meteorological year of future climate( F-TMY). The study uses data from a high-resolution( 9 km) regional climate atmospheric model simulation of Iberia,spanning 10 years of historical and future hourly data. This study compares both methods by analyzing anomalies in air temperature,and the impact in BES predictions of annual and peak energy consumption for space heating, cooling and ventilation in 4 ***, this study performs a sensitivity analysis of morphing method. The analysis shows that F-TMY is representative of the multi-year simulation for BES applications.A high-quality Morphed TMY weather file has a similar performance compared to F-TMY( average difference: 8% versus 7%). Morphing based on different baseline climates,low-grid resolution and/or outdated climate projections leads to BES average differences of 16%~20%.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma （OSCC） has a high incidence of cervical micrometastases and sometimes metastasizes contralaterally because of the rich lymphatic intercommunications relative to submucosal plexus of oral cavity that freely communicate across the midline, and it can facilitate the spread of neoplastic cells to any area of the neck consequently. Clinical and histopathologic factors continue to provide predictive information to contralateral neck metastases （CLNM） in OSCC, which determine prophylactic and adjuvant treatments for an individual patient. This review describes the predictive value of clinical-histopathologic factors, which relate to primary tumor and cervical lymph nodes, and surgical dissection and adjuvant treatments. In addition, the indications for elective contralateral neck dissection and adjuvant radiotherapy （aRT） and strategies for follow-up are offered, which is strongly focused by clinicians to prevent later CLNM and poor prognosis subsequently.

Mandibular Reconstruction with Autogenous Fragment of Previous Iliac Crest Associated to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy： Case Report

Early efforts at mandibular reconstruction are described from ancient China and the Etruscans to even Hippocrates, involving wooden, terracotta and metal prostheses attached to bone or teeth. Since then, modem surgery has developed more effective techniques, including no vascularized bone grafts, better alloplastic materials, vascularized loco regional grafts, soft and hard tissue compounds, bone fixation and stretching materials, and mechanisms for study models. These components have become indispensable in the surgeon＇s arsenal with regard to reconstructive surgery. A gold standard for mandibular bone reconstruction is the use of autogenous grafts. The objective of this study was to describe a clinical case of mandibular reconstruction with autogenous graft associated with adjuvant hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The clinical case presented shows the treatment performed for after-effects correction due to the non-consolidation of sagittal mandibular osteotomy performed for correction of standard III dentofacial deformity, resulting in a pseudoarthrosis with bite deviation and facial asymmetry. As a treatment plan, mandibular reconstruction was instituted with autogenous graft of anterior iliac crest associated with the use prototyping biomodel and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. After a control of 1 year and 6 months, no signs of recurrence were identified and the radiographic image showed excellent positioning, good volume and maintenance of the mandibular contour.

Evaluation of Maize Seeds Treated with Trichodermil? through Biospeckle

Background Vasospasm is a frequent complication of subarachnoid hemorrhage ( SAH) ,implicated in poor outcome,and prediction of its occurrence might be important on the therapeutic approach of this condition. Brain oxygenation in aneurysmal SAH was prospectively monitored during surgery in 28 patients,using brain tissue oxygen pressure ( PbtO 2 ) ,studying its association with the occurrence of post-operative vasospasm,detected by transcranial Doppler. Methods PbtO 2 monitoring was performed during surgery of 28 patients with aneurysmal SAH,using a polarographic microcatheter ( Licox; GMS,Kiel,Germany) ,inserted into the cerebral tissue. The aneurysms were localized in the anterior communicating artery ( AcoA) complex ( eight cases) ,in the posterior communicating artery ( Pcom) origin ( seven cases) ,and in the middle cerebral artery ( MCA) bifurcation ( 13 cases) . Basal PbtO 2 values,obtained immediately before application of temporary or definitive clips,were studied according to age,clinical status and CT findings. The association between the basal values and the occurrence of increased blood flow velocity in the post-operative transcranial Doppler ( TCD vasospasm) was investigated. Results Post-operative TCD vasospasm developed in 13 patients,all of them with basal values inferior to 10 mmHg. PbtO 2 basal value was significantly lower in cases that developed TCD vasospasm. This association was independent of age, clinical status,or CT findings. Conclusion The finding of low intraoperative basal PbtO 2 values may be an indicator for a high risk of occurrence of post-operative TCD vasospasm in cases of aneurysmatic SAH.

Impact of preformed donor-specific antibodies against HLA class Ⅰ on kidney graft outcomes:Comparative analysis of exclusively anti-Cw vs anti-A and/or-B antibodies

AIM To analyze the clinical impact of preformed antiH LA-Cw vs antiH LA-A and/or-B donor-specific antibodies(DSA) in kidney *** Retrospective study, comparing 12 patients transplanted with DSA exclusively antiH LA-Cw with 23 patients with preformed DSA antiH LA-A and/or *** One year after transplantation there were no differencesin terms of acute rejection between the two groups(3 and 6 cases, respectively in the DSA-Cw and the DSA-A-B groups; P = 1). At one year, eG FR was not significantly different between groups(median 59 mL /min in DSA-Cw group, compared to median 51 mL /min in DSA-A-B group, P = 0.192). Moreover, kidney graft survival was similar between groups at 5-years(100% in DSA-Cw group vs 91% in DSA-A-B group, P = 0.528). The sole independent predictor of antibody mediated rejection(AMR) incidence was DSA strength(HR = 1.07 per 1000 increase in MFI, P = 0.034). AMR was associated with shortened graft survival at 5-years, with 75% and 100% grafts surviving in patients with or without AMR, respectively(Log-rank P = 0.005).CONCLUSION Our data indicate that DSA-Cw are associated with an identical risk of AMR and impact on graft function in comparison with "classical" class I DSA.
