Investigation of Galactic open cluster remnants： the case of NGC 7193

Galactic open clusters （OCs） that survive the early gas-expulsion phase are gradually de- stroyed over time by the action of disruptive dynamical processes. Their final evolutionary stages are characterized by a poorly populated concentration of stars called an open cluster remnant （OCR）. This study is devoted to assessing the real physical nature of the OCR candidate NGC 7193. GMOS/Gemini spectroscopy of 53 stars in the inner target region were obtained to derive radial velocities and at- mospheric parameters. We also employed photometric and proper motion data. The analysis method consists of the following steps：（i） analysis of the statistical resemblance between the cluster and a set of field samples with respect to the sequences defined in color-magnitude diagrams （CMDs）; （ii） a 5-dimensional iterative exclusion routine was employed to identify outliers from kinematical and posi- tional data; （iii） isochrone fitting to thes× （J - Ks） CMD of the remaining stars and the dispersion of spectral types along empirical sequences in the （J - H） × （H - Ks） diagram were checked. A group of stars was identified for which the mean heliocentric distance is compatible with that obtained via isochrone fitting and whose metallicities are compatible with each other. Fifteen of the member stars observed spectroscopically were identified together with another 19 probable members. Our results indi- cate that NGC 7193 is a genuine OCR, of a once very populous OC, for which the following parameters were derived： d = 501±46 pc, t = 2.5±1.2 Gyr, （[Fe/H]） = -0.17±0.23 and E（B-V） = 0.05±0.05. Its luminosity and mass functions show depletion of low mass stars, confirming the OCR is in a dynam- ically evolved state.

Total Knee Arthroplasty:Patellar Replacement’s Influence in Patient Quality of Life Postoperatively

Objective: To study the influence of patellar resurfacing on quality of life under a standardised score. The chosen score was the Knee Society Score (KSS), which considers range of motion, pain, contractors, alignment and stability. Methods: Retrospective review of 60 patients submitted to total knee arthroplasty (TKA) was divided into two groups: with patellar resurfacing (PR) and without patellar resurfacing (NPR). We reviewed data from these patients containing the KSS, which are routinely used in our service. Data were analysed from 2013 to 2014, with a minimal patient follow-up of 18 months. Results: There were no unsatisfactory scores in our study. Total scores (KSS) were similar between the groups (mean KSS: PR = 88.36 ± 9.64;NPR = 84.26 ± 9.44 [p = 0.1]). While stratifying into groups (poor, fair, good, excellent), we found excellent results in 84.8% of PR versus 59.3% NPR (p = 0.056). These data did not reach statistical significance and can therefore be considered a coincidental result. Conclusion: Although these results did not show statistical significance (p = 0.056), patellar resurfacing patients tend to get more “excellent” results after 18 months of follow-up in quality of life when evaluated by KSS. Perhaps a larger amount of patients would suffice to acquire statistical significance in a future study.

Clinical,Laboratory and Echografic Evaluation of Patients with Deep Vein Thrombosis Following Total Knee Arthroplasty

Introduction: Total knee arthroplasty, being a major surgery, carries a risk of post-operative deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The main objective of the present study was to elucidate the association of clinical, laboratory, and echographic findings with the occurrence of DVT. Patients and Methods: The present study was prospective and non-randomized, with restricted exclusion criteria. Forty patients were submitted to total knee arthroplasty due to osteoarthritis. Patients were clinically evaluated by laboratory tests, assessment of pain and calf circumference, and the presence of Homans’ sign. Echo Doppler was performed in each patient on postoperative day 7. The echographic evaluation divided the patients into two groups: positive (G1) and negative for thrombosis (G2). All patients received prophylactic heparin during the 7-day hospital admission. Results: Eleven patients complained of pain (analgesic medication was used during the entire admission). Leg circumference variation from the pre-operative period to post-operative day 7 was: G1, 1.70 ± 1.12 cm and G2, 0.68 ± 1.25 cm (p = 0.03). Homans’ sign was considered positive in 10 patients. Echographic evaluation was positive in 11 patients (27.5%). No cases of pulmonary embolism, infection, or death were observed. Conclusions: The incidence of DVT was 27.5%, with an increase in leg circumference being the main predictive factor (p = 0.03).

Organomineral Phosphorus Fertilization in the Production of Corn,Soybean and Bean Cultivated in Succession

The use of organic waste in agriculture has been used aiming at greater productivity, decrease in the cost of production and sustainable use of resources. The present study aimed at evaluating the effect of phosphate fertilization with the maintenance of organomineral fertilizers, combining poultry manure and soluble or reactive phosphate, in the production of grains in corn culture and the residual effect for subsequent crops of beans and soybeans. The experiment was conducted in Sete Lagoas, MG, in 2015, using three fertilizers with sources of different phosphorus sources (triple super phosphate—STP, organomineral with STP and organomineral with Bayovar phosphate) applied at the doses of 65, 130, 195 and 260 kg·ha¯1 of P2O5 total, and compared to the control without phosphate fertilization. We evaluated the contents of foliar P, P accumulation in the grains, yields of corn grains, beans and soy, accumulated productivity and export of accumulated P of the three cultures. The three cultures assessed presented higher productivity when compared to the average of the factorial treatments that received phosphate fertilization relative to the control. Organomineral fertilizers increased grain production, obtaining average productivity equal to or greater than those obtained with the exclusive use of STP.

Idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy in pregnancy

The aim of this study was to highlight the importance of knowledge of idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC) in pregnancy and its complications, with the order to establish early diagnosis and treatment. We report the case of a primigravida aged 17, previously healthy, 18 weeks of gestation with dyspnea at rest, which started 2 weeks ago. During the investigation, the echocardiogram (ECO) showed left ventricle (LV) dilation with impaired systolic and diastolic function, LV ejection fraction of 20%. We did not identify a cause for the patient’s clinical condition, being diagnosed with IDC. The patient remained in obstetrics and cardiology monitoring for up to 23 weeks of gestation, when it was decided by the interruption of pregnancy by caesarean section due to hemodynamic instability. The newborn came to death four days after the procedure. The patient evolved to clinical improvement, 16 days after the resolution of gestation, was discharged for outpatient monitoring.

The Behavior of Zeta Potential of Silica Suspensions

Zeta potential is one of the most relevant parameters controlling the rheological behavior of ceramic suspensions. In this work, it was observed that for pH values below the isoelectric point (IEP), the positive value of zeta potential of water suspensions of α-quartz and α-cristobalite, experiences a sudden steep increase with the increase in specific surface area of the powders. For pH values above the IEP, the zeta potential values of crystalline forms of silica (α-quartz and α-cristobalite), get gradually more negative with the increase in pH. Conversely in the case of vitreous silica, for pH values above 6, there occurs a steep change towards more negative values of zeta potential than those presented by quartz and cristobalite. These findings have not yet been accounted for in the DLVO theory but may provide subsidies for better understanding of how to stabilize and destabilize crystalline and vitreous silica water suspensions.

Application of NURBS for Obtaining Free Form Curves and Surfaces in Spur and Helical Gears by Using CMM （Coordinate Measurement Machine）

Currently, engineering processes require reduced manufacturing time and low cost, in addition to the growing demand for workpieces with high accuracy. Workpieces with complex geometries and free forms has been a common practice in industries from different sectors such as： automotive, aeronautics, bioengineering among others. One way to satisfy the market requirements satisfactorily is making measurements more efficient to make the production process faster, in other words, it is necessary to make the inspection system more accurate and flexible. The coordinate measuring evolved over the past three decades and today it is the technology that best meets the requirements of modem manufacturing through CMMs （coordinate measurement machines）. The CMMs are important tool for design, fabrication and inspection of manufactured products, also used in the application of reverse engineering. These machines are also used by engineers in order to produce an accurate digital model in a virtual space for later use in CAD （computer-aided design）/CAM （computer-aided manufacturing）. It is worth mentioning that the accuracy of the modeling process of given piece depends on the number of control points that are captured on the workpiece surface. Consequently, the laser inspection systems are the best tools for use in reverse engineering, but more expensive when compared to contact measurement systems that use the TTP （touch trigger probe）, also used by CMMs. In this case, this paper aims to present an approach based on NURBS （non-uniform rational B-splines） to obtain free form curves and surfaces from a group of points obtained by using a contact sensor, the touch trigger probe. NURBS is an important mathematical tool and consists of generalizations of Bezier curves and surfaces and B-splines. ^(99m)Tc in the evaluation of microleakage of composite resin restorations with SonicFill^(TM).An in vitro experimental model

Introduction: The composite SonicFillTM (Kerr/Kavo) is indicated for posterior restorations, with a single increment up to 5 mm due to reduced polymerization shrinkage, thus reducing working time. Aim: Evaluation of marginal microleakage with SonicFillTM. Method and Materials: There were sectioned sixty noncarious human molars in the occluso-cervical direction. Class V cavities were prepared on each tooth with gingival margin walls in a standardized way. The specimens were divided into 4 groups: group 1—restored with SonicFillTM (Kerr/Kavo), group 2—restored with FiltekTM SupremeXTE (3M ESPE), group 3—the cavities were not restored;group 4—restored with SonicFillTM (Kerr/Kavo). In groups 1, 2 and 4 the enamel was conditioned with 37% orthophosphoric acid and applied the self-etch adhesive system Clear- fillTM SE BOND (Kuraray). The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37?C for 7 days. After, the specimens, were immersed in a solution of 99mTc-Pertechnetate and the radioactivity was assessed with a gamma camera. The nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney test with Bonferroni correction at a significance level of 5% were used for the statistical analyses. Results: There are significant differences between the positive and negative control groups and between these and experimental groups (p TM and FiltekTM SupremeXTE. Conclusion: The new composite SonicFillTM and FiltekTM SupremeXTE showed no difference concerning dye penetration. The Sonic- FillTM restorative system showed no influence in concerning microleakage.
