Plants optimize their growth in fluctuating environments using information acquired by different *** information is then transmitted through the rest of the plant using both short-and long-distance signals,including hormones and mobile *** a few of these signals have been characterized,long-distance signaling is not well understood in ***,the light-regulated transcription factor HY5 was reported to move from the shoot to the root to regulate root *** generated a cell-type specifically expressed HY5 fusion protein that could not be detected outside the tissue in which it was *** expressing this DOF-HY5 protein in specific cell types of the hypocotyl,we showed that its local activity was sufficient to regulate hypocotyl *** also found that,although DOF-HY5 was expressed specifically in the shoot and not detected in the roots,it could rescue hy5 growth defects in primary roots but not in lateral *** therefore conclude that HY5 protein mobility is not required in the hypocotyl or for shoot-to-root *** results indicate that a signal downstream of,or in parallel with,HY5 in the shoot is mobile and links shoot and root growth.

The neurophysiological measurement technique known as magnetoencephalography, or MEG, has been in use since the early 1970's, and applied to clinical populations since the early 1980's. However, it was not until the late 1980's and early 1990's that the technology was advanced to point where effective clinical use was achieved. This presentation will review the basic principles of MEG, discuss the progression of technology development and give an update on the current clinical applications of the technology.

Background: Interest in adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) has increased in recent years due to their multi-linagedifferentiation capabilities. while much work has been done to optimize the differentiation media, few studies havefocused on examining the influence of different expansion media on cell behavior. In this study, three basal media(low glucose Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium (DMEM), high glucose DMEM and DMEM-F12) supplementedwith or without fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF) were examined to assess their suitability for expanding ***: Flow cytometry, colony-forming unit assays (CFU-Fs) and differentiation assays were utilized to study cellbehavior. High glucose media CFU-Fs produced fewest colonies while the addition of FGF increased colony *** passage 2, the majority of cells were positive for CD44, 45, 73, 90 and 105 and negative for CD14, 31 and 45,indicating a mesenchymal phenotype. A sub-population of CD34 positive cells was present among passage 2 cells;however, by passage 4 the cells were negative for CD34. FGF has a negative effective on passage 4 ASC adipogenesisand high glucose media plus FGF-enhanced osteogenic capacity of passage 4 ASCs. FGF supplemented basal mediawere most suitable for chondrogenesis. High glucose media plus FGF appeared to be the most beneficial for primingASCs to induce a keratocyte ***: These findings demonstrate the reciprocal effect FGF and basal media have on ASCs. This research hasimplications for those interested regenerating bone, cartilage, cornea or adipose tissues.

Carcinogenesis on the background of liver fibrosis: Implications for the management of hepatocellular cancer

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is now the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally and many patients have incurable disease. HCC predominantly occurs in the setting of liver cirrhosis and is a paradigm for inflammation-induced cancer. The causes of chronic liver disease promote the development of transformed or premalignant hepatocytes and predisposes to the development of HCC. For HCC to grow and progress it is now clear that it requires an immunosuppressive niche within the fibrogenic microenvironment of cirrhosis. The rationale for targeting this immunosuppression is supported by responses seen in recent trials with checkpoint inhibitors. with the impact of immunotherapy, HCC progression may be delayed and long term durable responses may be seen. This makes the management of the underlying liver cirrhosis in HCC even more crucial as studies demonstrate that measures of liver function are a major prognostic factor in HCC. In this review, we discuss the development of cancer in the setting of liver inflammation and fibrosis, reviewing the microenvironment that leads to this tumourigenic climate and the implications this has for patient management.

Rice line 1892S is an elite thermo-sensitive genic male sterile(TGMS)line for two-line hybrid rice ***,1892S is susceptible to rice blast,bacterial blight and *** we reported the introduction of blast resistance(R)gene Pi9,bacterial blight R gene Xa21 and submergence tolerance gene Sub1A into 1892S genetic background through backcrossing and marker-assisted *** improved TGMS line 31892S and its hybrids conferred disease resistance to rice blast and bacterial blight,and showed submergence tolerance for over 14 d without significant loss of *** sterility-fertility conversion of 31892S was similar to that of 1892S.31892S and its derived hybrid rice had similar agronomic traits and grain quality with 1892S and the control hybrid rice,*** newly developed 31892S provided an improved TGMS line for two-line hybrid rice production with disease resistance to rice blast and bacterial blight,and submergence tolerance with no yield penalty or change in grain quality.

Both tryptophan （Trp） and auxin are essential for plant growth and Trp is a precursor for auxin biosynthesis. Concentrations of Trp and auxin need to be tightly con- trolled to ensure optimal growth and development. It has been very difficult to study the homeostasis of these two essential and inter-dependent compounds. Auxin is mainly synthesized from Trp via a two-step pathway using indole- 3-pyruvate （IPA） as the intermediate. Here we used a bacterial Trp oxidase RebO, which does not exist in Ara- bidopsis and which converts Trp to the imine form of IPA, to modulate IPA levels in Arabidopsis. Our results demonstrate that Arabidopsis plants use two strategies to ensure that no excess IPA is made from Trp. IPA is made from Trp by the TAA family of aminotransferases, which we show catalyzes the reverse reaction when IPA level is high. Moreover, excess IPA is converted back to Trp by the YAS1 aminotransferase. we show that the VASl-cat- alyzed reaction is very important for Trp homeostasis. This work not only elucidates the intricate biochemical mech- anisms that control the homeostasis of Trp, IPA, and auxin, but also provides novel tools for further biochemical studies on Tip metabolism and auxin biosynthesis in plants.

Perinatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy is a leading cause of neonatal death and *** hypothermia significantly reduces death and major disability associated with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy;however,many infants still experience lifelong disabilities to movement,sensation and *** guidelines,based on strong clinical and preclinical evidence,recommend therapeutic hypothermia should be started within 6 hours of birth and continued for a period of 72 hours,with a target brain temperature of 33.5 ±0.5℃ for infants with moderate to severe hypoxic-ischemic *** clinical guidelines also recommend that infants be re warmed at a rate of 0.5℃ per hour,but this is not based on strong *** are no randomized controlled trials investigating the optimal rate of rewarming after therapeutic hypothermia for infants with hypoxic-ischemic *** studies of rewarming are conflicting and results were confounded by treatment with sub-optimal durations of *** this review,we evaluate the evidence for the optimal start time,duration and depth of hypothermia,and whether the rate of rewarming after treatment affects brain injury and neurological outcomes.
