During the last decade, hundreds of studies have been pub- lished examining whether significant associations exist be- tween mitochondrial DNA （mtDNA） variants and/or haplogroups （clades） and particular diseases （generally com- mon/complex diseases）（Fig. 1）. Six soils located within the Polish Carpathians,developed on calcium carbonate–rich sedimentary parent materials and representing various reference groups,were investigated in order to detect the lithic *** propose using a multidirectional approach to assess the lithic discontinuity in these soils,one that includes grain size distribution,geochemical composition,heavy mineral content and micromorphology,supported by a traditional soil survey.A further aim of this process was to identify the possible admixture of allochthonous material of aeolian *** studied soils presented lithic discontinuities mostly at the contact of underlying calcium carbonate–rich coarsegrained slope deposits with the overlaying colluvium layer having a lower content of rock *** significant changes in grain size distribution,especially in the silt and sand content,as well as high Uniformity Values and partially,high lithological Discontinuity Index values,confirmed the occurrence of a lithic discontinuity in all studied *** heterogeneity in the soil profiles was also confirmed by the distribution of the major oxides;however,their distribution did not clearly indicate the lithic *** most visible distinctions were noted from CaO content,which resulted from the deposition of carbonate-free materials(aeolian silts)and their mixing with the calcium carbonate–rich parent ***,the analysis of heavy mineral content confirmed the allochthonous origin of the upper(and in some cases also the middle)parts of all profiles,which was manifested by the presence of highly weathering-resistant minerals such as zircon,epidote and various types of *** micromorphological features of some of the studied soils showed distinctiveness within the soil profile,manifested by changes in b-fabric pattern,the occurrence and distribution of secondary carbonate and the coarse and fine coarse and fine *** on the high content of silt within the u

The representative elementary volume （REV） for three-dimensional polydisperse granular packings was determined using discrete element method simulations. Granular mixtures of various sizes and particle size distributions were poured into a cuboid chamber and subjected to uniaxial compression, Findings showed that the minimum REV for porosity was larger compared with the REV for parameters such as coordination number, effective elastic modulus, and pressure ratio. The minimum REV for porosity and other parameters was found to equal 15,10, and 5 times the average grain diameter, respectively. A study of the influence of sample size on energy dissipation in random packing of spheres has also confirmed that the REV size is about 15 times the average grain diameter. The heterogeneity of systems was found to have no effect on the REV for the parameters of interest for the narrow range of coefficient of uniformity analyzed in this paper. As the REV approach is commonly applied in both experimental and numerical studies, determining minimum REV size for polydisperse granular packings remains a crucial issue.

The periodicity of a river expressed in cycles of various lengths(monthly, seasonal,multiannual) is a result of climatic factors and overlapping environmental conditions within its catchment. In uncontrolled or poorly surveyed catchments, it is very difficult to determine the duration of a stream’s hydrological activity. This is especially relevant for catchments with complicated water circulation in karstic rocks. The present study concerns the small catchment of the Str??yski Potok river located in the area of the Tatra National Park, in the Western Tatras. The observation period covered the 2015 hydrological year, which differed hydrologically from average conditions. This study aims to develop a simple method to explain the processes shaping the mountain stream discharge periodicity. The research employed periodic field observations linked with climatic and non-climatic factors. Environmental conditions were assessed as four classes reflecting their influence on appearance or disappearance of mountain stream water. Class boundaries were the values of quartiles. The degree of correspondence between environmental factors and stream field observations was described via the Index DC(Degree Correspondence Index) *** correspondence(Index DC =0) was found in 23% catchments, a weak relationship between conditions favouring discharge and actual condition(Index DC=-1, +1) was noted within 11 catchments,while in 9 catchments, no such relationship was found(Index DC =-2, +2). The obtained results indicate a correspondence or lack thereof between the environmental potential of the catchment and its discharge periodicity. In this article,we consider Orlicz-lorentz sequence spaces equipped with the Orlicz norm(λ_(φ,ω),‖·‖_(φ,ω)^(O))generated by any Orlicz function and any non-increasing weight *** far as we know,research on such a general case is conducted for the first *** showing that the Orlicz norm is equal to the Amemiya norm in general and giving some important properties of this norm,we study the problem of existence of order isomorphically isometric copies of l∞in the space(λ_(φ,ω),‖·‖_(φ,ω)^(O))and we find criteria for order continuity and monotonicity properties of this *** also find criteria for monotonicity properties of n-dimensional subspaces λ_(φ,ω)^(n)(n≥2)and the subspace(λ_(φ,ω))_(a) of order continuous elements of λ_(φ,ω).Finally,as an immediate consequence of the criteria considered in this article,the properties of Orlicz sequence spaces equipped with the Orlicz norm are deduced.

Branch duct intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms(BD-IPMN) are pre-malignant pancreatic cystic lesions which carry a small risk of malignant transformation within the cyst. Guidelines exist with respect to surveillance of the cysts using computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and/or endoscopic ultrasound(EUS). There are reports that patients with IPMNs are at increased risk of developing pancreatic adenocarcinoma, which arises in an area separate to the IPMNs. We present two cases of pancreatic adenocarcinoma arising within the parenchyma, distinct from the IPMN-associated cyst, identified with EUS. This case report highlights that patients with BD-IPMN are at increased risk for pancreatic adenocarcinoma separate from the cyst and also the importance for endosonographers to carefully survey the rest of the pancreatic parenchyma separate from the cyst in order to identify small pancreatic adenocarcinomas.

Exploring adherence to daytime compression in women with breast cancer related lymphedema: a multi-methods study

Aim:The objective of this follow-up study was to explore the barriers and facilitators to use of daytime compression among women with breast cancer related lymphedema who previously took part in a trial examining the efficacy of night ***:We used a multi-methods approach involving a survey and subsequent focus group *** survey questions were developed based on clinical experience and findings from the *** were framed to align with the Theoretical Domains *** the focus group data,we applied an interpretive description qualitative methodology to understand participants'experiences and views on use of daytime *** findings were mapped to the Theoretical Domains ***:Questionnaires were completed by 48 of 52 *** 15 participants(31%)reported adhering to wearing the garment for greater than 12 h each *** adherence was positively associated with perceived control of lymphedema(r=0.304;95%CI:0.051-0.564;P=0.021).Survey findings suggest that participants have good knowledge about the rationale for,and the benefits of,wearing the compression ***-three survey respondents took part in one of the five subsequent focus group *** key themes were identified representing the primary barriers to regular use of daytime compression:discomfort,negative emotions,interference with function,social situations and visibility,and use of alternative management strategies. ;Conclusion:The findings suggest less than optimal adherence to daytime compression sleeve *** research is needed to explore the relative benefit of daytime compression,optimal wear times,and implementable strategies to improve adherence.
