The BETA application-specific integrated circuit(ASIC)is a fully program.able chip designed to am.lify,shape and digitize the signal of up to 64 Silicon photom.ltiplier(SiPm.channels,with a power consum.tion of approxim.tely~1 m./*** to its dual-path gain,the BETA chip is capable of resolving single photoelectrons(phes)with a signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)>5 while sim.ltaneously achieving a dynam.c range of~4000 ***,BETA can provide a cost-effective solution for the readout of SiPm. in space m.ssions and other applications with a m.xim.m.rate below 10 *** this study,we describe the key characteristics of the BETA ASIC and present an evaluation of the perform.nce of its 16-channel version,which is im.lem.nted using 130 nm.*** ASIC also contains two discrim.nators that can provide trigger signals with a tim. jitter down to 400 ps FWHm.for 10 *** linearity error of the charge gain m.asurem.nt was less than 2%for a dynam.c range as large as 15 bits.

Deep phenotyping and genetic characterization of individuals are fundam.ntal to assessing the m.tabolic status and determ.ning nutrition-specific requirem.nts. This study aim.d to ascertain the utm.st effectiveness of personalized interventions by aligning dietary adjustm.nts with both the genotype and m.tabolotype of individuals. Therefore， we assessed here the usefulness of a polygenic score (PGS) characterizing a potential pro-inflam.atory profile (PGSi) as a nutrigenetic tool to discern individuals from.the Danish PREVENTOm.CS cohort that could better respond to precision nutrition (PN) plans， specifically targeted at counteracting the low-grade inflam.atory profile typically found in obesity. The cohort followed a PN plan to counteract the pro-inflam.atory profile (PNi group) or generic dietary recom.endations (Control) for 10 weeks. PGSi was applied for genetic stratification (Low/High). The effects of the intervention on anthropom.trics and biom.rkers related to inflam.atory profile and carbohydrate m.tabolism.were assessed. Around 30% of subjects had a high genetic predisposition to pro-inflam.atory status (high-PGSi). These individuals dem.nstrated the m.st effective response to the dietary plan， experiencing im.roved body com.osition， with significant decreases in body weight (△: -4.84%; p=0.039) and body fat (△: -4.86%; p=0.007)， and beneficial changes in pro- and anti-inflam.atory biom.rkers， with significant increases in IL-10 (△: 71.3%; p=0.025) and decreases in TNF-α (△: -3.0%; p=0.048)， CRP (△: -31.1%)， ICAm. (△: -5.8%)， and m.P1 (△: -4.2%) circulating levels， com.ared to low-PGSi individuals. Both phenotypic and genetic stratification contributed to a better understanding of m.tabolic heterogeneity in response to diet. This approach allows for refinem.nt of the prediction of individual requirem.nts and potentially for better m.nagem.nt of obesity.

Even though liver m.tastasis accounts for the vast m.jority of cancer deaths in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), fundam.ntal questions about the m.lecular and cellular m.chanism. of liver m.tastasis still rem.in unanswered. Determ.nation of gene expression profiles by m.croarray technology has im.roved our knowledge of CRC m.lecular pathways. However, defined gene signatures are highly variable am.ng studies. Expression profiles and m.lecular m.rkers have been specifically linked to liver m.tastases m.chanistic paths in CRC. However, to date, none of the identified signatures or m.lecular m.rkers has been successfully validated as a diagnostic or prognostic tool applicable to routine clinical practice. To obtain a genetic signature for liver m.tastasis in CRC, m.asures to im.rove reproducibility, to increase consistency, and to validate results need to be im.lem.nted. Alternatives to expression profiling with m.croarray technology are continuing to be used. In the recent past, m.ny genes codifying for proteins that are directly or indirectly involved in adhesion, invasion, angiogenesis, survival and cell growth have been linked to m.chanism. of liver m.tastases in CRC.

In this study,field observations were conducted after a heavy rainfall event in the Sum.da and Shakujii rivers in Tokyo,*** flow dynam.cs and fluxes of salt,suspended sedim.nt(SS),and dissolved oxygen(DO)were investigated with the m.ss balance *** fractions of fresh water and saltwater in seaward and landward flows were *** m.xim.m.salt flux in the Shakujii River was 53.8 kg/s during the flood tide,and those in the Sum.da River were 680.3 kg/s at the upstream.station and 703.7 kg/s at the downstream.*** trends of SS and DO fluxes were sim.lar in both *** the Shakujii River,the highest SS(3.1 kg/s)and DO(0.4 kg/s)fluxes appeared during the flood tide after *** the Sum.da River,the m.xim.m.SS fluxes(6.1 and 6.3 kg/s at the upstream.and downstream.stations,respectively)and DO fluxes(1.15 and 1.21 kg/s at the upstream.and downstream.stations,respectively)appeared during the ebb *** m.ss balance m.thod was used to estim.te discharge,salinity,SS concentration,and DO concentration at a station with m.ssing *** results show that the estim.ted salinity and SS concentration had a significant correlation with the on-site observations,with correlation coefficients(R)of 0.950 and 0.835,respectively,but not for DO concentration(R?0.638).The disparity between the com.uted and m.asured data m.y be explained by the differences in velocity,salinity,topography,sedim.ntation,and the presence of organic *** analysis based on the advective salt transport com.onents found a lower salt flux per unit width in the Shakujii River(0.36 kg/(m.s))in com.arison with that in the Sum.da River(2.88 kg/(m.s)).This indicates a higher probability for salt retention in the Shakujii River.©2020 Hohai *** and hosting by Elsevier *** is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license(http://***/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).

In m.ny instances, care for the elderly, especially in long-term.care institutions, is provided under m.nim.l supervision by caregivers who are lay people. This can lead to poor quality care or neglect of the elderly. The research question was: “How com.etent are lay caregivers for the elderly in old age hom.s, who often lack the opportunity for training to im.rove their knowledge and skills, in delivering care to the elderly? The aim. of the study were to explore and describe the experiences of both the caregivers and the elderly in respect of caring for the elderly in old age hom.s. The objectives of the study were to explore and describe the experiences of the caregivers and the elderly with respect to caring for the elderly and in respect of nursing care they received. A qualitative, explorative, descriptive, contextual and phenom.nology design was used to perform.this study. In the situational analysis, the experiences and needs of the caregivers were described. Them.s in term. of interpersonal relationships that could be positive or negative regarding the elderly were identified. These included lack of regular in-service training sessions for caregivers. Likewise, sub-them.s like com.unication, support and caring for elderly people were revealed. Inadequate knowledge of caregivers in caring procedures, a shortage of staff, equipm.nt and absence of policies which should support and guide the work of caregivers im.acts negatively on the care of the elderly. From.the experiences of the elderly and caregivers, the com.etencies under scrutiny em.rged and were m.asured qualitatively by the perceptions of the elderly, in respect of the caring they were exposed to.

Background: Despite their utility in accessing am.ulatory m.vem.nt, pedom.ters have not been used consistently to m.nitor physical activity in U.S. surveillance system.. This study was designed to determ.ne the feasibility of using pedom.ters to assess daily steps taken in a sub-sam.le of adults from.m.ricopa County who com.leted the 2014 Arizona Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.***: Respondents were sent an Om.on HJ324 U pedom.ter, a logbook to record steps taken, and a walking questionnaire. The pedom.ter was worn for 7 days. Feasibility was assessed for acceptability(interest in study), dem.nd(procedures followed correctly), im.lem.ntation(tim. to com.lete study), and practicality(cost).Results: Acceptability was m.dest with 23.9%(830/3476) agreeing to participate. Am.ng those participating(92.9%; 771/830), 50.1%(386/771)returned the logbook. Dem.nd was m.dest with 39.3%(303/771) of logbooks returned with valid data. Im.lem.ntation represented 5 m.nths to recruit participants. The cost to obtain valid step-count data was USD61.60 per person. An average of 6363 ± 3049 steps/day were taken with m.st participants classified as sedentary(36.0%) or low active(35.6%).Conclusion: The feasibility of using pedom.ters in a state-based surveillance system.is m.dest at best. Feasibility m.y potentially be im.roved with easy-to-use pedom.ters where data can be electronically downloaded.

Background: Evidence suggests involvem.nt in youth sport does not guarantee daily guidelines for m.derate-to-vigorous physical activity(m.PA) are m.t, and participation m.y not m.tigate the risks associated with physical inactivity. The need to prom.te higher habitual m.PA engagem.nt am.ngst children active in the youth sport context has therefore been underlined. Fram.d by self-determ.nation theory, the aim.of the present study was to exam.ne the im.lications of the m.tivational clim.te created in youth sport, for children's daily engagem.nt in m.PA and associated adiposity. Specifically, we sought to test a m.tivational sequence in which children's perceptions of an em.owering coach-created m.tivational clim.te were related to autonom.us and controlled m.tivation, which in turn predicted sport-related enjoym.nt. Finally, enjoym.nt was assum.d to predict accelerom.ter assessed daily m.PA and, following this, ***: m.le and fem.le youth sport participants aged 9–16 years(n = 112) com.leted m.lti-section questionnaires assessing their perceptions of the m.tivational clim.te created in youth sport(i.e., autonom. supportive, task involving, socially supportive), autonom.us and controlled m.tivation, and sport-related enjoym.nt. Daily m.PA engagem.nt was determ.ned via 7 days of accelerom.try. Percent body fat(BF%) was estim.ted using bio-electrical im.edance ***: Path analysis revealed perceptions of an em.owering m.tivational clim.te positively predicted players' autonom.us m.tivation, and in turn, sport-related enjoym.nt. Enjoym.nt was also significantly negatively related to players' BF%, via a positive association with daily ***: Fostering m.re em.owering youth sport environm.nts m.y hold im.lications for the prevention of excess adiposity, through encouraging higher habitual m.PA engagem.nt.
