Experimental Investigation of Flexible Hawkmoth-like Wings on the Wing-wake Interaction in Hovering Flight

To study wing-wake interaction for various wing flexibilities, force measurements and digital particle image velocimetry were carried out on flapping hawkmoth-like wings in a water tank. Wing thickness was employed as a design variable for the wing flexi- bility distributions. Abrupt flap-down and phase delay in flexible wings influenced the behaviors of the Leading-Edge Vortex （LEV） and Trailing-Edge Vortex （TEV）, generated by the previous stroke. While the rigid wing exhibited a detached LEV at the end of the stroke, wing with specific flexibilities obtained attached LEVs. The attached LEVs induced a relatively rapid flow toward the wing surface as a result of encountering the TEV, and the flow caused a higher lift peak. On the other hand, the wings with larger wing deformations generated distinctive changes in LEV and TEV behaviors. The flap-down helped the TEV form closer to the wing surface, and it thus caused a downwash rather than wing-wake interaction. Furthermore, the most flexible wing had a newly-formed pair of LEVs above the wing during the wing reversal, thereby being not able to generate the wing-wake interaction. These results help to understand the different vortex structures generated by flexible wings during the wing reversal and the corresponding effects of wing-wake interaction.

The latest developments in bio-inspired neuromorphic vision sensors can be summarized in 3 keywords:smaller,faster,and smarter.(1)Smaller:Devices are becoming more compact by integrating previously separated components such as sensors,memory,and processing *** a prime example,the transition from traditional sensory vision computing to in-sensor vision computing has shown clear benefits,such as simpler circuitry,lower power consumption,and less data redundancy.(2)Swifter:Owing to the nature of physics,smaller and more integrated devices can detect,process,and react to input more *** addition,the methods for sensing and processing optical information using various materials(such as oxide semiconductors)are evolving.(3)Smarter:Owing to these two main research directions,we can expect advanced applications such as adaptive vision sensors,collision sensors,and nociceptive *** review mainly focuses on the recent progress,working mechanisms,image pre-processing techniques,and advanced features of two types of neuromorphic vision sensors based on near-sensor and in-sensor vision computing methodologies.

Recent advances in magnetic electrospun nanofibers for cancer theranostics application

Cancer theranostics is a recent concept that aims to combine in the same device diagnostic and therapeutic features. Magnetic nanoparticles(m nPs) are commonly used as a critical part of these systems due to their ability to respond to an external magnetic field. Consequently, m nPs can generate heat when an alternating magnetic field is applied and enhance image contrast in magnetic resonance. However, direct administration of m nPs intravenously or directly in the tumor can lead to undesired side effects because of m nP elimination by macrophages or leakage to healthy tissues. Therefore, m nPs can be retained in a polymeric nanofibrous mesh, thus preventing misplacing or loss of m nPs. Furthermore, these magnetic nanofibers can be directly implanted in the tumor site, thus ensuring high m nPs loading and higher magnetic response. In addition, polymeric nanofibers produced by electrospinning are frequently used to maintain a sustained drug release in the tumor site. Therefore,a magnetic polymeric nanofiber produced by electrospinning is an ideal nanosystem for cancer theranostics application. This review summarizes the most recent developments of magnetic nanofibers produced by electrospinning for cancer theranostics applications.

A practical prescreening method for sloshing severity evaluation

This paper aims at finding a proper way to estimate sloshing ***,the concept of sloshing severity RAO(SSR) is introduced,and the wave elevation on the liquid free surface is chosen as an initial index for the rough prediction of sloshing ***,compared with experimental data from a 3 D regular model test,this index is adjusted and a new index is *** step further,sloshing severity under irregular sea states can be achieved by nonlinear combinations of the new *** validation,the same model tank is tested under a set of irregular sea conditions,and peak pressures and impulse areas are taken as comparison *** is found that both numerical and experimental results show a similar tendency of sloshing *** a real ship application on the new index,the sloshing severity of a liquefied natural gas floating production storage and offloading(LnG-FPSO) is predicted under a low filling ***,the ship motion responses with and without sloshing effects are considered for the calculation of *** the present observation,this proposed methodology and generated new index is expected to be applicable to the selection of severe sea states for sloshing loads analysis.

The retention of dense and well-functioning microbial biomass is crucial for effective pollutant removal in several biological wastewater treatment *** solids retention is often achieved through aggregation of microbial communities into dense,spherical aggregates known as granules,which were initially discovered in the *** granules have since been widely applied in upflow anaerobic digesters for waste-to-energy ***,granular biomass has been applied in aerobic wastewater treatment and anaerobic ammonium oxidation(anammox)*** mechanisms underpinning the formation of methanogenic,aerobic,and anammox granules are the subject of ongoing *** each granule type has been extensively studied in isolation,there has been a lack of comparative studies among these granulation *** is likely that there are some unifying concepts that are shared by all three sludge *** these unifying concepts could allow a unified theory of granulation to be ***,we review the granulation mechanisms of methanogenic,aerobic,and anammox granular sludge,highlighting several common concepts,such as the role of extracellular polymeric substances,cations,and operational parameters like upflow velocity and shear *** have then identified some unique features of each granule type,such as different internal structures,microbial compositions,and quorum sensing ***,we propose that future research should prioritize aspects of microbial ecology,such as community assembly or interspecies interactions in individual granules during their formation and growth.

A novel Goodness of Fit Test Spectrum Sensing Using Extreme Eigenvalues

The existing Goodness of fit(GoF) test based spectrum sensing algorithms mostly use samples or energies as observations to make decisions,which can hardly achieve satisfactory performance especially when the Primary user(PU) signals are highly ***,the eigenvalue of covariance matrix can reflect signal correlations *** by this,we study the distribution of eigenvalue and propose an eigenvalue based GoF spectrum sensing *** the proposed scheme,we use the ratios of maximum to minimum eigenvalue as observations and thus it can bring performance improvements through capturing correlation of PU *** also provide the related theoretical analysis for the proposed *** results show that the proposed method overcomes the problem of noise uncertainty and achieves performance improvement over the classical samples-based GoF test.

The Development of Aerobic and Anaerobic Fitness with Reference to Youth Athletes

Pattern and antibiogram of urinary tract infection at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital

Objective:To explore the prevalence,pathogenicity,and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of urinary tract infections at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching ***:Samples from 400 patients with a presumptive diagnosis of urinary tract infection including 250 non pregnant females and 150 males were used for this *** were distributed into two groups: children aged 2 to 17(Croup A) and adults aged 18 to 75(Croup B).The standard wire loop and agar diffusion technique were employed for culture and susceptibility testing,*** obtained were analysed using SPSS,version ***:30.0%of Group A and 41.0%of Group B had significant bacteriuria with 66.7%and 79.3%as females,*** commonest isolates cultured were Escherichia coli(32.8%),Staphylococcus aureus(17.2%),and Klebsiella spp.(16.4%).About 76.6%of isolates were sensitive to the fluorinated quinolones,31.2%to the aminoglycosides,and 22.7%to the urinary antiseptic,*** isolates were nonsensitive to tetracycline(93.8%),cotrimoxazole(92.2%),and nalidixic acid(86.7%).Most isolates showed non-uniform sensitivity patterns to the cephaloporins(cefuroxime and ceftazidime). Pseudomonas *** were generally resistant to the fluorinated ***: though the fluorinated quinolones are still largely effective for empirical therapy in urinary tract infections,the importance of prior sensitivity testing in checking the emergence of bacterial antibiotic resistance can not be overemphasized.

Chitosan and Carboxymethylchitosan as High Turbidity Water Biocoagulants

Biocoagulants emerges as a promising technology in water treatment,in order to exploit renewable and biodegradable *** present work aims to study the coagulant action of chitosan and carboxymethylchitosan on water with very high turbidity(above 300 nTU),contrasting the physicochemical results with those obtained for aluminum *** was produced by the Williamson’s ethers synthesis and characterized by potentiometric titration,FTIR and 1 *** coagulant tests were performed using synthetic water in a Jar-test equipment,through the induction of high and low velocity gradients,followed by *** results showed turbidity and color removal efficiencies above 99%for the biocoagulants,by applying dosages much lower than those used for aluminum sulphate;the volume of sedimentable solids obtained at the end of the water treatment process was much lower when chitosan and carboxymethylchitosan were used as coagulants(reduction of 25%when compared to aluminum sulphate).In summary,carboxymethylchitosan is a non-toxic,renewable,biodegradable material with high efficiency as a coagulant for waters with very high turbidity,showing promise for in natura applications.

Viral infections have haunted humankind since times ***,globalization,and extensive deforestation have created an ideal environment for a viral spread with unknown and multiple shedding *** viruses can infect the male reproductive tract,with potential adverse consequences to male reproductive health,including infertility and ***,some genital tract viral infections can be sexually transmitted,potentially impacting the resulting offspring's *** have summarized the evidence concerning the presence and adverse effects of the relevant viruses on the reproductive tract(mumps virus,human immunodeficiency virus,herpes virus,human papillomavirus,hepatitis B and C viruses,Ebola virus,Zika virus,influenza virus,and coronaviruses),their routes of infection,target organs and cells,prevalence and pattern of virus shedding in semen,as well as diagnosis/testing and treatment *** pathophysiological understanding in the male genital tract is essential to assess its clinical impact on male reproductive health and guide future research.
