ABC transporters have been suggested to be involved in insecticide detoxification in different insect species mainly based on the indirect observation of transcriptional upregulation of ABC gene expression in response to insecticide *** studies performed by us and others in the red flour beetle,Tribolium castaneum,have analyzed the function of TcABCA-C and TcABCG-H genes using RNA interference(RNAi)and demonstrated that specific TcABCA and TcABCC genes are involved in the elimination of the pyrethroid tefluthrin and the benzoylurea diflubenzuron,because gene silencing increased the beetle's susceptibility to the *** this study,we focused on the potential functions of TcABCA-C genes in detoxification of the pyrethroid cyfluthrin(CF),the organophosphate malathion(MAl)and the diacylhdyazine tebufenozide(TBF).Analysis of transcript levels of selected TcABCA-C genes in response to treatment with these three chemically unrelated insecticides revealed that some genes were particularly upregulated after insecticide *** addition,the ABC inhibitor verapamil synergized significantly the toxicity of MAl but only negligibly CF and TBF ***,silencing of two TcABCC genes by RNAi revealed a significant increase in susceptibility to *** contrast,we did not observe a significant increase in insecticide-induced mortalities when knocking down TcABC genes in larvae treated with CF or TBF,although they were upregulated in response to insecticide *** results suggest that two pleiotropic ABCC transporters expressed in metabolic and excretory tissues contribute to the elimination of MAl.

Background: Posturodynamic 6 (PDN-6) is a clinical assessment of posture that merges the Clinical Posturodynamic Test and the Pelvic Maintain Test. Current scoring system does not fulfill all our needs and requirements mostly because the same numeric score might reflect 28 different possible combinations of postural dysfunction in terms of anatomic region and laterality. Objective: We propose a new scoring method for the PDN-6 that would not change the clinical methods for the PDN-6 assessment. Specifically, new scoring method would clearly indicate specific patterns of postural dysfunction while still enabling statistical analyses. Methods: We developed a new scoring method for the PDN-6 without changing the instrument’s clinical procedures. We qualitatively assessed the validity of the new scoring system to detail specific patterns of postural dysfunction in terms of anatomic region and laterality. Results: New scoring method successfully deals with limitations of the previous scoring method. The new method enables clinicians to differentiate among 2 or more patients who might have very different patterns of postural dysfunction while still having the same numeric score using the previous scoring. The new scoring method provides quantitative data that are easily translated in terms of anatomic region and laterality for the postural dysfunctions that are present. Patient behavioral improvements are quantified, documented and interpreted with a change in score, and the exact nature of the improvements can be determined in terms of anatomic location and laterality. Rash analyses can also be used for statistical analyses. Conclusion: PDN-6 new scoring method provides quantitative data that provide more specific information about a patient’s postural deficits and any changes in their postural dysfunction over time without changing the clinical assessment methods.

The ACTIF project was launched in 2001 by the French Ministry of Transport to build a national frame for the deployment of ITS around the coun- *** a first phase of modelisation inspired by the foreign architectures (USA,Japan,European) it appeared that a specific method was needed to as- sist the authorities in charge of the deployment of real systems to precise their needs and their organisation.A tool has been develop to create architectures ap- propriate to these *** is now a combination of a conceptual model describing the whole domain of ITS,at a high level but including all modes of transport,a method to use it and a set of tools available without charge from the web site ***-actif,*** method is illustrated by case studies in vari- ous domains.

Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of orthopaedic soles on the body posture. Methods. Forty-eight runners (21 men and 28 women) maintained a standing-up position on both feet with bare feet with neutral soles and orthopedic soles which contained bilaterally a podiatrist element of 3 mm height behind the metatarsal heads (Metatarsal Retro Capital Bar, MRCB). Stabilometric, plantar pressure and kinematic data in the sagittal plane on both sides were measured at 40 and 60 Hz, respectively. The position of the center of pressure on the anteroposterior axis (YCoP), the forefoot plantar pressure (FPP) and the anteroposterior position of the knee (Yk), the hip (YH), the shoulder (YS) and the ears (YE) with respect to the vertical axis passing through the joint of the ankle were determined for each experimental condition. Findings. The addition of a MRCB orthopedic element induced in backward displacement of CoP, hip, shoulder and ears (p CoP and FPP changes were significantly correlated with YH, YS and YE changes (p Conclusion. These results suggest that the addition of an orthopedic element located behind the metatarsal heads influences the overall position of the body and can help podiatrist in the care of their patients.

The family of voltage-gated （Shaker-like） potassium channels in plants includes both inward-rectifying （Kin） channels that allow plant cells to accumulate K＋ and outward-rectifying （Kout） channels that mediate K＋ efflux. Despite their dose structural similarities, Kin and Kout channels differ in their gating sensitivity towards voltage and the extracellular K＋ concentration. We have carried out a systematic program of domain swapping between the Kout channel SKOR and the Kin channel KAT1 to examine the impacts on gating of the pore regions, the S4, S5, and the S6 helices. We found that, in particular, the N-terminal part of the S5 played a critical role in KAT1 and SKOR gating. Our findings were supported by molecular dynamics of KAT1 and SKOR homology models. In silico analysis revealed that during channel opening and closing, displacement of certain residues, especially in the S5 and S6 segments, is more pronounced in KAT1 than in SKOR. From our analysis of the S4-S6 region, we conclude that gating （and K＋-sensing in SKOR） depend on a number of structural elements that are dispersed over this -145-residue sequence and that these place additional constraints on configurational rearrangement of the channels during gating.

In fifty years, laser technology has made great progress, and its many applications make it essential in everyday life. However, this technology is still open to numerous developments. Across multiple applications, there is particular focus in the field of medicine, for diagnosis for tailored therapies, and as a research tool in biology. Whereas its use is now well-demonstrated in ophthalmologic and dermatologic treatments, and surgery, one of the most fascinating aspects of laser technology in the field of biology emerged in the late 1990s with the development of devices able to perform fine dissections of biological tissues using a laser beam. The so-called laser-associated microdissection offers a rapid, precise method of isolating and removing targeted cells or groups of cells from complex biological tissues. It represents the missing link between clinical observations and the intrinsic physiological mechanisms of biological tissues. The molecular examination of pathologically altered cells and tissues for DNA, RNA, and protein expression has revolutionized research and diagnosis in pathology, enabling assessment of the role of the cell type in the normal physiological or disease process. Alongside conventional diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, another field of application contribute to the development of targeted treatments at the nanoscale level of laser technology, mainly in the field of cancer, leading to design new and innovative strategies in drug delivery and image-guided surgery. Most of these approaches, but although not exhaustively, will be presented here.
