The geometry and evolution of pre-existing basement in accretionary belts bordering supercontinents are often *** interpretation of long-wavelength potential field satellite data can image deep crust structure,improving our understanding of lithospheric processes that formed these margins ***,we present a multidisciplinary interpretation of the lithospheric architecture of the central southern Amazon Craton,a fragment of an accretionary belt at the southwestern Columbia supercontinent ***-borne gravity and magnetic data,airborne magnetic data,passive seismic(V_(p)/V_(s) ratio,crustal thickness)and seismic tomography data reveals that basement terranes from the interior of the craton extend into the accretionary margin of *** demonstrate a vertically heterogeneous structure with an underlying strongly reworked pre-Columbia tectonic wedge that sustained prolonged modification during the supercontinent assembly as corroborated by Nd isotope and geochronology *** isotope data suggest that the protracted orogenic wedge was influenced by subduction angle shifts over time,including addition of substantial juvenile material during slab retreat *** interplay promoted Craton growth at the supercontinent margin while keeping a subtle record of the pre-existing *** findings point to the possible misrepresentation of basement extension and geometry of supercontinent margins elsewhere.

Uniform flow regime and constant effective thermal conductivity inside packed beds are commonly accepted in the evaluation of the fluid dynamics and heat transfer in such systems. However, several authors have confirmed the presence of an oscillatory velocity profile caused by the effective contribu~ tion of porosity profile in the fluid dynamic behavior of packed beds, which directly influences the heat transfer inside the beds. This paper describes the application of a pseudo-homogeneous mathematical model for describing heat transfer in packed beds with oscillatory profiles of velocity and porosity, using a radius-dependent model for effective thermal conductivity kr. Several temperature profiles were obtained in a packed bed system with thermal source located on the wall. The simulated temperature and effective thermal conductivity obtained from simulations were compared with experimental data and calculation from a model based on uniform kr fitting. The results indicate that the proposed mathematical modeling was capable of better reDresenting the heat transfer in the packed bed.

This critical review of the literature shows that there is a close link between the microbiome,the gut,and the brain in Parkinson's *** vagus nerve,the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system,is involved in the regulation of immune response,digestion,heart rate,and control of *** can detect microbiota metabolites through its afferents,transferring this gut information to the central nervous *** and clinical studies have shown the important role played by the gut microbiome and gut-related factors in disease development and progression,as well as treatment *** findings suggest that the gut microbiome may be a valuable target for new therapeutic strategies for Parkinson's *** studies are needed to better understand the underlying biology and how this axis can be modulated for the patient's benefit.

Galectin-3 is a member of the lectin family that binds β-galactosides and plays an important role in several types of tumors. Melanoma is an invasive cancer responsible for 80% of deaths associated to skin cancers. There are some evidences that galectin-3 interacts with β-catenin, a molecule involved with Wnt signaling pathway. Here, we evaluate the role of galectin-3 intumor growth and metastasis, as well as its interaction with β-catenin. Murine melanoma cells (B16F10) were injected subcutaneously and intravenously in male C57BL/6 wild-type (WT) and galectin-3 knock-out (Ko) mice. Tumor growth and lung melanoma colonies were assessed. The expression of galectin-3 and β-catenin was evaluated by immuno-histochemistry. We observed that tumor growth did not differ between the groups. However, to metastasis, the number of lung colonies in WT mice was significantly increased in comparison to that observed in Ko mice. The cytoplasm expression of galectin-3 was observed in subcutaneous and metastatic tumors,w in both groups. We observed its nuclear expression in some of subcutaneous tumors of Ko mice. The expression of β-catenin was detected in cell membrane of all subcutaneous tumors analyzed, whereas in the metastatic tumors we observed both cytoplasm and cell membrane staining. Altogether, our data suggest that galectin-3 favors the metastasis of melanoma cells and this process is not associated with β-catenin.

Although the scientific knowledge about some associations between physical parameters of the soil is consolidated,studies focused on investigating the dynamics of forest restoration processes and the structure of soils remain *** study area is located in Cerrado and is called as Private Natural Heritage Reserve(RPPN)Águas Perenes Forest(perennial water forest)and was selected as a“High Conservation Value Forest”,provides scope to investigate the soil physical properties recovery on passive restoration sites,with different ages but with the same land use ***,the aim was to investigate the soil density,moisture,penetration resistance and infiltration rate with long-term from old(FA,46 year-old),medium(FB,11 year-old)and young(FC,8 year-old)passive restoration *** was observed differences in soil density,as well as in soil moisture,resistance to penetration and infiltration *** densities recorded for FA,FB and FC were 1.38,1.48 and 1.53 g cm^(-3),*** recorded higher mean soil moisture(14.9%)than FB(11.5%)and FC(10.0%),whereas mean soil resistance to penetration was increased from FA(0.87 MPa)to FB(0.91 MPa)and FC(1.10 MPa).The average infiltration rate was almost similar in FA and FB(FA=76.43 mm h^(-1);FB=77.48 mm h^(-1))and approximately 39%higher than FC(55.79 mm h^(-1)).Thus,although soil density and moisture were different in each passive restoration site,11 year-old passive restoration site showed similar resistance to penetration and infiltration rate to the old(46 years)passive restoration *** features allowed seeing improvements in hydrological maintenance in the soil and revealed that passive restoration in Cerrado is able to improve the physical features on a soil presenting similar texture,climate and management history.

Raman Spectroscopy Analysis of Wollastonite/Tricalcium Phosphate Glass-Ceramics after Implantation in Critical Bone Defect in Rats

In this work wollastonite/tricalcium phosphate (W/TCP) glass-ceramics with three W/TCP weight ratios (20/80;60/40 and 80/20) were implanted in rat calvaria and the modifications taking place during implantation were studied by Raman spectroscopy. The experimental glass-ceramics were composed of different contents of βW, αW, βTCP, αTCP, and glassy phases. Materials were implanted for 7-, 15-, 45- and 120-day periods after which the implanted materials were recovered and analyzed by FT-Raman spectroscopy. The results suggested that the αW phase reabsorbs fast during implantation in the glass-ceramics 60/40 and 80/20, whereas βTCP and αTCP glass-ceramic are gradually attenuated and replaced by biological apatite-like bands. In the glass-ceramic 20/80, the bands related to the βTCP phase remained unvaried in all analyzed periods. New bands associated with the deposition of collagenous material appeared during implantation for all 60/40 and 80/20 glass-ceramics experimental groups, but important differences in intensities between both groups. The spectra corresponding to implants of 60/40 glass-ceramic at the 120-day period were very similar to those of the control group (normal cortical bone), with regards to Raman shifts and intensities, as well as in the FWHM value of the 962 cm-1 apatite band (ν1 Po4 in hydroxyapatite), evidencing that apatite deposited at the implant site has the same crystallinity than biological apatite in normal bone mineral. The glass-ceramic 20/80 behaved just as an osteoconductive filling material, while glass-ceramics 60/40 and 80/20 were able to induce deposition of organic matrix mineralized new tissue. The 60/40 glass-ceramic showed the best performance and the most similar Raman spectrum to normal cortical bone.
