Sulfur mass-independent fractionation(S-MIF)preserved in Archean sedimentary pyrite is interpreted to reflect atmospheric *** ranges in Δ^(33)S that expanded into larger fractionations leading up to the Great oxygenation Event(GoE;2.45–2.2 Ga)are disproportionately represented by sequences from the Kaapvaal and Pilbara *** patterns of S-MIF attenuation and enhancement may differ from the timing and magnitude of minor sulfur isotope fractionations reported from other cratons,thus obscuring local for global sulfur cycling *** expanding the Δ^(33)S record to include the relatively underrepresented São Francisco Craton in Brazil,we suggest that marine biogeochemistry affected S-MIF preservation prior to the *** an early Neoarchean sequence(2763–2730 Ma)from the Rio das Velhas Greenstone Belt,we propose that low δ^(13)Corg(o-0.7‰)in banded iron formation reflect the marine diagenetic process of anaerobic methane *** overlying black shale(ToC up to 7.8%)with higher δ^(13)Corg(-33.4‰to-19.2‰)and expanded Δ^(33)S(2.3‰±0.8‰),recorded oxidative sulfur cycling that resulted in enhance preservation of S-MIF input from atmospheric sources of elemental *** sequence culminates in a metasandstone,where concomitant changes to more uniform δCorg(-30‰to--25‰),potentially associated with the RuBisCo I enzyme,and near-zero Δ^(33)S(-0.04‰to 0.38‰)is mainly interpreted as evidence for local oxygen *** placed in the context of other sequences worldwide,the Rio das Velhas helps differentiate the influences of global atmospheric chemistry and local marine diagenesis in Archean biogeochemical *** data suggest that prokaryotic sulfur,iron,and methane cycles might have an underestimated role in pre-GoE sulfur minor isotope records.

The geometry and evolution of pre-existing basement in accretionary belts bordering supercontinents are often *** interpretation of long-wavelength potential field satellite data can image deep crust structure,improving our understanding of lithospheric processes that formed these margins ***,we present a multidisciplinary interpretation of the lithospheric architecture of the central southern Amazon Craton,a fragment of an accretionary belt at the southwestern Columbia supercontinent ***-borne gravity and magnetic data,airborne magnetic data,passive seismic(V_(p)/V_(s) ratio,crustal thickness)and seismic tomography data reveals that basement terranes from the interior of the craton extend into the accretionary margin of *** demonstrate a vertically heterogeneous structure with an underlying strongly reworked pre-Columbia tectonic wedge that sustained prolonged modification during the supercontinent assembly as corroborated by Nd isotope and geochronology *** isotope data suggest that the protracted orogenic wedge was influenced by subduction angle shifts over time,including addition of substantial juvenile material during slab retreat *** interplay promoted Craton growth at the supercontinent margin while keeping a subtle record of the pre-existing *** findings point to the possible misrepresentation of basement extension and geometry of supercontinent margins elsewhere.

Automatic Detection of CoVID-19 Infection Using Chest X-Ray Images Through Transfer Learning

The new coronavirus(CoVID-19),declared by the World Health organization as a pandemic,has infected more than 1 million people and killed more than 50 *** infection caused by CoVID-19 can develop into pneumonia,which can be detected by a chest X-ray exam and should be treated *** this work,we propose an automatic detection method for CoVID-19 infection based on chest X-ray *** datasets constructed for this study are composed of194 X-ray images of patients diagnosed with coronavirus and 194 X-ray images of healthy *** few images of patients with CoVID-19 are publicly available,we apply the concept of transfer learning for this *** use different architectures of convolutional neural networks(CNNs)trained on Image Net,and adapt them to behave as feature extractors for the X-ray ***,the CNNs are combined with consolidated machine learning methods,such as k-Nearest Neighbor,Bayes,Random Forest,multilayer perceptron(MLP),and support vector machine(SVM).The results show that,for one of the datasets,the extractor-classifier pair with the best performance is the Mobile Net architecture with the SVM classifier using a linear kernel,which achieves an accuracy and an F1-score of 98.5%.For the other dataset,the best pair is Dense Net201 with MLP,achieving an accuracy and an F1-score of 95.6%.Thus,the proposed approach demonstrates efficiency in detecting CoVID-19 in X-ray images.

Implementation on FPGA of Neuro-Genetic PID Controllers Auto-Tuning

The present paper studies the use of genetic algorithm to optimize the tuning of the Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) controller. Two control criteria were considered, the integral of the time multiplied by the absolute error (ITAE), and the integral of the time multiplied by the absolute output (ITAY). The time variant plant tested is a first-order plant with time delay. We aim at a real time implementation inside a digital board, so, the previous continuous approach was discretized and tested;the corresponding control algorithm is presented in this paper. The genetic algorithms and the PID controller are executed using the soft processor NIoS II in the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The computational results show the robustness and versatility of this technology.

optimizing power oscillations in an ellipsometric system

Ellipsometry is a powerful and well-established optical technique used in the characterization of materials. It works by combining the components of elliptically polarized light in order to draw information about the optical system. We propose an ellipsometric experimental set-up to study polarization interference in the total internal reflection regime for Gaussian laser beams. The relative phase between orthogonal states can be measured as a power oscillation of the optical beam transmitted through a dielectric block, and the orthogonal components are then mixed by a polarizer. We show under which conditions the plane wave analysis is valid, and when the power oscillation can be optimized to reproduce a full pattern of oscillation and to simulate quarter- and half-wave plates.

This work describes a simple yet powerful scalable solution chemistry strategy to create back‐contact rich interfaces between substrates such as commercial transparent conducting fluorine‐doped tin oxide coated glass(FTo)and photoactive thin films such as hematite for low‐cost water oxidation ***‐resolution electron microscopy(SEM,TEM,STEM),atomic force microscopy(AFM),elemental chemical mapping(EELS,EDS)and photoelectrochemical(PEC)investigations reveal that the mechanical stress,lattice mismatch,electron energy barrier,and voids between FTo and hematite at the back‐contact interface as well as short‐circuit and detrimental reaction between FTo and the electrolyte can be alleviated by engineering the chemical composition of the precursor solutions,thus increasing the overall efficiency of these low‐cost photoanodes for water oxidation reaction for a clean and sustainable generation of hydrogen from PEC water‐*** findings are of significant importance to improve the charge collection efficiency by minimizing electron‐hole recombination observed at back‐contact interfaces and grain boundaries in mesoporous electrodes,thus improving the overall efficiency and scalability of low‐cost PEC water splitting devices.
