Background: We currently have international and national guidelines regarding the assessment and monitoring of clinical signs and humane endpoints in animals used in teaching and research, which make the performance of these activities mandatory for any experiment and professional working in this area. Assigning the severity of a research experiment is the result of an analysis of records of observations of the animal’s behavior, and clinical signs. The aim of this study was to describe the importance of carrying out a severity assessment associated with clinical and behavioral monitoring of rodents and rabbits during experimentation to maintain the welfare of these animals undergoing scientific research. Methods: The literature search was carried out using the following terms: “Monitoring”;“Humane endpoints”;“Animal welfare”, “Rodents”;“Rabbits”, and as connectors “and”;“or”, in the following databases: PubMed;LILACS/BIREME and SciELo. Results: A total of 987 articles were identified in the databases, and 20 of these studies were included in this review. Conclusions: Humane endpoint protocols and procedure severity tables are of the utmost importance, both from an ethical point and to refine the results of research conducted on laboratory animals. They should be drawn up jointly by the teams responsible for the project and the maintenance of the animals during the research period, and the data obtained should be published so that the scientific community can have access to it, helping to disseminate these practices, as well as helping to draw up new procedures. Monitoring and evaluating the welfare and clinical condition of animals undergoing scientific research procedures is the responsibility of the professors, researchers, veterinarians, and animal facility coordinators. Enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of Floscopa scandens Lour

oBJECTIVE: To explore the total phenolic and flavonoid content, enzymatic, non-enzymatic antioxidant properties, anti-inflammation and anticancer activities of hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Floscopa scandens(F. scandens).METHoDS: Non-enzymatic antioxidant activity was examined by 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay, nitric oxide scavenging assay, hydroxyl radical scavenging assay, reducing power assay, hydrogen peroxide scavenging assay, superoxide scavenging assay and metal chelating assay. Enzymatic antioxidant ability was screened for the antioxidant enzymes such as ascorbate oxidase, peroxidase, catalase and polyphenol oxidase. The anti-inflammatory property was proved with the inhibition of protein denaturation and protease inhibitory assays. In vitro anticancer activity was assessed by cell viability ***: Methanol extract contained high amount of phenols(198.41 mg catechol equivalent/gram extract) and flavonoids(101.70 mg quercetin equivalent/gram extract) showed higher activity than hexane and ethyl acetate extracts in all experiments. Fresh plant showed considerable enzymatic antioxidant ***: The results revealed that the methanol extracts of F. scandens could be used as a potential source of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer bioactive compounds.

本文采用一种简单、有效的规模化溶液化学策略,在基底(如商用氟掺杂氧化锡透明导电涂层玻璃(FTo))和光活性薄膜(如赤铁矿)之间形成丰富的背接触界面,并用于低成本水氧化反应.高分辨率电子显微镜(扫描电镜、透射电镜、扫描透射电镜)、原子力显微镜、元素成像(电子能量损失谱和能量色散谱)和光电化学研究表明,可通过前驱体溶液的化学成分工程来有效降低机械应力、晶格失配、电子势垒和FTo与赤铁矿在背面接触界面之间的空隙以及FTo与电解液之间的短路和有害反应,进而提升这些低成本光阳极对水氧化反应以及PEC水分解清洁、可持续地生产氢气的整体效率.本研究对通过最小化在介孔电极的背接触界面和晶粒边界上的电子-空穴复合,进而提高电荷收集效率具有重要意义,可提高低成本PEC水裂解装置的整体效率和规模化的能力.

optimizing power oscillations in an ellipsometric system

Ellipsometry is a powerful and well-established optical technique used in the characterization of materials. It works by combining the components of elliptically polarized light in order to draw information about the optical system. We propose an ellipsometric experimental set-up to study polarization interference in the total internal reflection regime for Gaussian laser beams. The relative phase between orthogonal states can be measured as a power oscillation of the optical beam transmitted through a dielectric block, and the orthogonal components are then mixed by a polarizer. We show under which conditions the plane wave analysis is valid, and when the power oscillation can be optimized to reproduce a full pattern of oscillation and to simulate quarter- and half-wave plates.

Experimental Evaluation of Thermal Conductivity and other Thermophysical Properties of Nanofluids Based on Functionalized (-oH) Mwcnt Nanoparticles Dispersed in Distilled Water

A possible way to increase thermal conductivity of working fluids, while keeping pressure drop at acceptable levels, is through nanofluids. Nanofluids are nano-sized particles dispersed in conventional working fluids. A great number of materials have potential to be used in nanoparticles production and then in nanofluids;one of them is Multi-Walled Carbon Nano Tubes (MWCNT). They have thermal conductivity around 3000 W/mK while other materials used as nanoparticles like Cuo have thermal conductivity of 76.5 W/mK. Due to this fact, MWCNT nanoparticles have potential to be used in nanofluids production, aiming to increase heat transfer rate in energy systems. In this context, the main goal of this paper is to evaluate from the synthesis to the experimental measurement of thermal conductivity of nanofluid samples based on functionalized (-oH) MWCNT nanoparticles. They will be analyzed nanoparticles with different functionalization degrees (4% wt, 6% wt, and 9% wt). In addition, it will be quantified other thermophysical properties (dynamic viscosity, specific heat and specific mass) of the synthetized nanofluids. So, the present work can contribute with experimental data that will help researches in the study and development of MWCNT nanofluids. According to the results, the maximum increment obtained in thermal conductivity was 10.65% in relation to the base fluid (water).

The inflammatory pattern during Helicobacter pylori(***)infection is changeable and *** childhood,it is possible to observe a predominantly regulatory response,evidenced by high concentrations of key cytokines for the maintenance of Treg responses such as TGF-β1 and IL-10,in addition to high expression of the transcription factor *** the other hand,there is a predominance of cytokines associated with the Th1 and Th17 responses among ***-positive *** the last few years,the participation of the Th17 response in the gastric inflammation against *** infection has been highlighted due to the high levels of TGF-β1 and IL-17 found in this infectious scenario,and growing evidence has supported a close relationship between this immune response profile and unfavorable outcomes related to the ***,this cytokine profile might play a pivotal role in the effectiveness of *** *** is evident that age is one of the main factors influencing the gastric inflammatory pattern during the infection with ***,and understanding the immune response against the bacterium can assist in the development of alternative prophylactic and therapeutic strategies against the infection as well as in the comprehension of the pathogenesis of the outcomes related to that microorganism.

Automatic Detection of CoVID-19 Infection Using Chest X-Ray Images Through Transfer Learning

The new coronavirus(CoVID-19),declared by the World Health organization as a pandemic,has infected more than 1 million people and killed more than 50 *** infection caused by CoVID-19 can develop into pneumonia,which can be detected by a chest X-ray exam and should be treated *** this work,we propose an automatic detection method for CoVID-19 infection based on chest X-ray *** datasets constructed for this study are composed of194 X-ray images of patients diagnosed with coronavirus and 194 X-ray images of healthy *** few images of patients with CoVID-19 are publicly available,we apply the concept of transfer learning for this *** use different architectures of convolutional neural networks(CNNs)trained on Image Net,and adapt them to behave as feature extractors for the X-ray ***,the CNNs are combined with consolidated machine learning methods,such as k-Nearest Neighbor,Bayes,Random Forest,multilayer perceptron(MLP),and support vector machine(SVM).The results show that,for one of the datasets,the extractor-classifier pair with the best performance is the Mobile Net architecture with the SVM classifier using a linear kernel,which achieves an accuracy and an F1-score of 98.5%.For the other dataset,the best pair is Dense Net201 with MLP,achieving an accuracy and an F1-score of 95.6%.Thus,the proposed approach demonstrates efficiency in detecting CoVID-19 in X-ray images.

Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha (TNF)-308G/A and Interleukin 8(IL-8)-251C/T Polymorphisms in Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients from Congo

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases. Tumor necrosis factor-Alpha (TNF-α) and Interleukin 8 (IL-8) are involved in the pathogenesis of pulmonary TB (PTB). However, the contribution of polymorphisms of these cytokines to PTB susceptibility needed more investigation across geographic regions and ethnic groups. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the association of the TNF-α-308 G/A and IL-8-251T/A polymorphisms with PTB risk in the Congolese population. Methods: This case-control study included 150 PTB patients and 160 control subjects. Blood samples were collected from all participants and were used for the TNF-α-308 G/A and IL-8-251T/A genotyping by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique. odds ratios (oR) were calculated to estimate the potential polymorphism associations. A P level of Results: A significant difference was found between PTB patients and controls regarding the TNF-α-308AA genotype (P = 0.035) distribution. Moreover, this genotype was associated with risk to TB (oR = 7.19, 95% CI = 0.85 - 60.65, P = 0.035). The A allele was significantly more frequent in PTB patients than in controls, and was associated with risk to PTB (oR = 1.68, 95% CI = 1.05 - 2.68, P = 0.014). Regarding the IL-8-251T/A gene, TA and AA genotypes were significantly more frequent in PTB patients compared to controls, and were associated with increased risk to PTB (oR = 2.64, 95% CI = 0.97 - 7.18, P = 0.031 and oR = 3.0, 95% CI = 1.13 - 7.98, P = 0.014, respectively). However, the IL-8-251 A allele was not associated to PTB susceptibility (oR = 0.27, 95% CI = 0.15 - 0.44). Conclusion: TNF-α-308G/A and IL-8-251T/A polymorphisms may be associated to PTB susceptibility in the Congolese population, and the AA genotype of both cytokines could be a risk factor.

Brazilian city beaches are public spaces favoring citizens *** studies relate built form and infrastructure with urban vitality and coastal studies underline uses as important for beach management,yet few researches relate form and infrastructure with beach *** daily life as essential for public spaces and that spatial form relates with uses,this paper assesses time-based relationships between built and natural physical attributes and social life on the beaches of joão Pessoa,a coastal city in North-east *** attributes are investigated at city scale-beach type,street network centrality and topography-and seafront scale-land uses,public/private interfaces,public infrastructure,beach sections and water *** social life was surveyed online,enquiring peoples’beach choice,visiting time and place,activities and *** and street network follow topography and help configure shore and promenade for different *** central beaches have diverse land uses,well-equipped promenades and lighting and were popular night and day,while less central beaches had less infrastructure and were visited only by *** highlight how physical attributes facilitate uses and,together with peoples’evaluation,can inform urban beach design and planning.
