Aims We analyse here the variations in species composition and richness and the geographic ranges of the tree species occurring in south american subtropical atlantic and Pampean *** goals were to assess(i)the floristic consistency of usual classifications based on vegetation physiognomy,climate and elevation;(ii)the leading role of temperature-related variables on the variations in species composition and richness;(iii)the predominance of species with tropical-subtropical ranges,possibly as a result of forest expansion over grasslands after the last glacial maximum(LGM);(iv)the restriction of most subtropical endemics to stressful habitats as a possible result of past forest refuges during the *** The region was defined by the Tropic of capricorn to the north,the rio de la Plata to the south,the atlantic shoreline to the east and the catchment areas of the upper Paranáand uruguay rivers to the *** analyses,multiple regression modelling and variance partition analyses were performed on a database containing 63994 occurrence records of 1555 tree species in 491 forest sites and 48 environmental *** species were also classified according to their known geographic *** Findingsa main differentiation in species composition and richness was observed between the eastern windward coastlands(rain and cloud forests)and western leeward hinterlands(Araucaria and semi-decid-uous forests).Pre-defined forest types on both sides were consistent with variations in tree species composition,which were significantly related to both environmental variables and spatial proximity,with extremes of low temperature playing a chief *** species rich-ness declined substantially towards the south and also from rain to seasonal forests and towards the highland summits and sandy *** richness was significantly correlated with both minimum temperature and actual *** 91%of the subtropical flora is shared with the

The stone marten(Martes foina)is a carnivorous mammal that often consumes fleshy fruits,thus potentially promoting seed *** present study was developed in Bussaco National Forest,central Portugal,and aimed to assess the potential role of the stone marten in dispersing native and exotic plants in different forest landscape *** from stone marten scats and fleshy fruits were collected monthly and were thereafter identified and sowed in a nursery,following a randomized experimental *** emergence was monitored *** linear models were used to test for differences in time and success of emergence between seeds from scats and fruits of 3 native species(Rubus ulmifolius,Arbutus unedo and celtis australis)and 1 exotic plant species with invasive behavior(Prunus laurocerasus).Fruit consumption by the stone martens significantly increased and accelerated the germination of the native *** but had no effect on the other 2 native species or on the invasive *** suggested that stone martens contribute to gene flow and forest regeneration by dispersing native plant ***,although the germination was not enhanced in the invasive species,the preference of stone martens for these fruits may potentially contribute to the proliferation of *** study represents a contribution to better understanding the fauna and flora interactions,enabling for a more conscious and effective decision-making in forest management.

This work investigates the effect of cerium substation into strontium cobalt perovskites(ceSrcoo)for the oxidative degradation of orangeⅡ(oII)in dark ambient conditions without the aid of any external stimulants such as light,heating or chemical *** oII degradation rate by ceSrcoo reached 65%in the first hour,whilst for the blank sample without cerium(Srcoo)took over 2 hr to reach the same level of oII ***,the cerium substitution improved the catalytic activity of the perovskite material,mainly associated with the ce0.1Sr0.9coo3 perovskite *** contacting ceSrcoo,the-N=Nazo bonds of the oII molecules broke down resulting in electron donation and the formation of *** electrons are injected into the ceSrcoo and resulted in a redox pair of co3+/co2+,establishing a bridge for the electron transfer between oII and the ***,the electrons also formed reactive species(·oH)responsible for oII degradation as evidenced by radical trapping *** species were formed via the reaction between 02 and donated electrons from oII with the aid of cobalt redox *** the prepared materials dispensed with the need for light irradiation and additional oxidants,it opens a window of environmental applications for treating contaminated wastewaters.

Introduction: In the Pacific Northwest of North America, research addressing lentic-breeding amphibian populationvulnerability has emphasized aquatic habitats, frequently neglecting terrestrial habitats. consequently, wetlandprotection and restoration often fails to preserve or restore adjacent uplands required by lentic-breeding *** to the juxtaposition and connectivity of uplands to wetlands could locally extirpate lentic-breedingamphibians. The objective of this research is to identify the relative importance of juxtaposed terrestrial and aquatichabitats in a lentic-breeding amphibian, the northern red-legged frog (Rana aurora), by evaluating the relationshipbetween its occurrence and abundance with its aquatic and terrestrial habitats. To accomplish this, egg mass countswere used to quantify R. aurora populations in 30 stillwater habitats across an urbanization gradient. Using aGeographic Information System, seven descriptors of aquatic and surrounding terrestrial habitats were measured toevaluate their relationships to R. aurora occurrence and ***: Rana aurora occurrence and breeding abundance both reflect the forested area around wetland breedingsites and forest connectivity to those sites. Rana aurora breeding abundance also strongly reflects the percent offorested perimeter around wetland breeding sites. The forest habitat most important for R. aurora breeding abundanceseems to be > 200 m from the breeding wetlands. The American bullfrog presence and the two aquatic parametersmeasured, wetland area and vegetated area, were unrelated to R. aurora occurrence and breeding ***: Area and connectivity of juxtaposed forested terrestrial habitat may represent a basic control on R. aurorapresence and population size. Urban development policies should consider preservation and restoration of uplandforest habitats beyond current fixed-width buffers and wetland habitat area at landscape scales.

Multi-principal element alloys usually exhibit outstanding strength and toughness at cryogenic temperatures,especially in crMnFecoNi and crcoNi *** remarkable cryogenic properties are attributed to the occurrence of deformation twins,and it is envisaged that a reduced stacking fault energy(SFE)transforms the deformation mechanisms into advantageous properties at cryogenic temperatures.A recently reported high-strength VcoNi alloy is expected to exhibit further notable cryogenic ***,no attempt has been made to investigate the cryogenic properties in detail as well as the underlying deformation ***,the effects of cryogenic temperature on the tensile and impact properties are investigated,and the underlying mechanisms determining those properties are revealed in terms of the temperature dependence of the yield strength and deformation *** the strength and ductility were enhanced at 77 K compared to 298 K,while the charpy impact toughness gradually decreased with *** planar dislocation glides remained unchanged at 77 K in contrast to the crMnFecoNi and crcoNi alloys resulting in a relatively constant and slightly increasing SFE as the temperature decreased,which is confirmed via ab initio ***,the deformation localization near the grain boundaries at 298 K changed into a homogeneous distribution throughout the whole grains at 77 K,leading to a highly sustained strain hardening *** reduced impact toughness is directly related to the decreased plastic zone size,which is due to the reduced dislocation width and significant temperature dependence of the yield strength.

To investigate whether the arrangement of componentsin multi-composite photocatalysts may affect their photocatalytic properties,due to different charge-transfer routes,two ternary-nanocomposite photocatalysts with different component arrangements,comprising N-doped carbon quantum dots(NcQDs),g-c3N4(cN),and Bi2Wo6(BWo)(hereafter referred to as NcQDs/cN/BWo),were developed,and the photocatalytic degradation of model hazardous vapors under visible-light illumination was *** I NcQDs/cN/BWo,which was developed by the combination of NcQDs/BWo and cN,exhibited photocatalytic ability superior to that of type II NcQDs/cN/BWo,which was developed by the combination of cN/BWo and NcQDs;the superior photocatalytic ability corresponded to the dual properties of NcQDs:charge mediation and upconversion ***,the photocatalytic ability of NcQDs/cN/BWo was greater than those of the reference catalysts;in addition,this photocatalyst exhibited outstanding photochemical ***,the effects of cN/(BWo+cN)weight ratio of the cN/BWo dual nanocomposites and the NcQDs/(BWo+cN+NcQDs)weight percentage of NcQDs/cN/BWo ternary nanocomposites on the pollutant removal efficiency were *** plausible mechanisms over the two NcQDs/cN/BWo photocatalysts for the degradation of hazardous vapors were *** component arrangement approach proposed herein afforded a technique toward the perceptive development of novel multi-component heterostructures for the photocatalytic degradation of hazardous vapors.

cutaneous presentation of gastric cancer is very rare. This case report is about a patient with a metastatic gastric cancer in which the diagnosis was made by a cutaneous biopsy. Following this unusual diagnostic tool, the patient had an intracardiac thrombus, during the chemotherapy regimen, which wasn’t a contraindication for pursuing chemotherapy treatment for over 12 months. This case report is presented to make clinicians aware of a possible atypical sign of presentation of gastrointestinal tract cancer, as well as the importance of clinical suspicion of a well-known problem affecting cancer patients such as venous thromboembolism and its repercussions in the treatment options.

Intensive agricultural and industrial activities are often considered major sources of water ***,riparian vegetation(RV)is increasingly being promoted as a solution to balance the potentially adverse effects that agriculture may have on water ***,existing RV is often overlook in recent modelling efforts,failing to capture the current amount of ecosystem services ***,we used the Soil and Water Assessment Tool ecohydrological model to simulate the influence of ground-true RV on i)nutrient(nitrate and total phosphorus)and sediment exports from agricultural areas and ii)its effect for in-stream *** results are further compared against a set of hypothetical scenarios of different RV widths and different *** results point to a great rele-vance of existing RV in controlling in-stream concentration of sediments and nutrients where pressure from agriculture is highest,preventing them to surpass limits set in the EU Water Framework *** the other hand,in areas with industry discharges,the role of RV is limited and model results suggest that restoring RV would have limited *** illustrate how existing RV may already provide strong but not acknowledged water quality regulation services,how these services can differ substantially between nearby streams,and that effective strategies to improve water quality using RV must acknowledge existing patterns of vegetation,land use and contamination sources.

Natural frequencies of single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWcNTs)obtained using a model based on Eringen’s nonlocal continuum mechanics and the Timoshenko beam theory are compared with those obtained by molecular dynamics *** goal was to determine the values of the material constant,considered here as a nonlocal property,as a function of the length and the diameter of *** present approach has the advantage of eliminating the SWcNT thickness from the computations.A sensitivity analysis of natural frequencies to changes in the nonlocal material constant is also carried out and it shows that the influence of the nonlocal effects decreases with an increase in the SWcNT *** matching of natural frequencies shows that the nonlocal material constant varies with the natural frequency and the SWcNT length and diameter.
