Novel modular quasi-zero stiffness vibration isolator with high linearity and integrated fluid damping

Passive vibration isolation systems have been widely applied due to their low power consumption and high reliability.Nevertheless,the design of vibration isolators is usually limited by the narrow space of installation,and the requirement of heavy loads needs the high supporting stiffness that leads to the narrow isolation frequency band.To improve the vibration isolation performance of passive isolation systems for dynamic loaded equipment,a novel modular quasi-zero stiffness vibration isolator(MQZS-VI)with high linearity and integrated fluid damping is proposed.The MQZS-VI can achieve high-performance vibration isolation under a constraint mounted space,which is realized by highly integrating a novel combined magnetic negative stiffness mechanism into a damping structure:The stator magnets are integrated into the cylinder block,and the moving magnets providing negative-stiffness force also function as the piston supplying damping force simultaneously.An analytical model of the novel MQZS-VI is established and verified first.The effects of geometric parameters on the characteristics of negative stiffness and damping are then elucidated in detail based on the analytical model,and the design procedure is proposed to provide guidelines for the performance optimization of the MQZS-VI.Finally,static and dynamic experiments are conducted on the prototype.The experimental results demonstrate the proposed analytical model can be effectively utilized in the optimal design of the MQZS-VI,and the optimized MQZS-VI broadened greatly the isolation frequency band and suppressed the resonance peak simultaneously,which presented a substantial potential for application in vibration isolation for dynamic loaded equipment.

Physicochemical properties,antimicrobial activity and oil release of fish gelatin films incorporated with cinnamon essential oil

Fish skin gelatin films incorporated with various concentrations of cinnamon essential oil(CEO)were prepared and characterized.The results showed that tensile strength(TS),elongation at break(EAB),and water content(WC)of the gelatin based film decreased with the increasing concentrations of CEO,but water vapor permeability(WVP)increased.Addition of CEO improved light barrier property of the film.The Scanning electron microscope(SEM)showed that the heterogeneous surface and porous formation appeared in gelatin-CEO films.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analyses(FTIR-ATR)spectra indicated the interactions existed between gelatin and CEO.The gelatin-CEO films exhibited good inhibitory effects against the tested microorganisms(Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,Aspergillus niger,Rhizopus oryzae,and Paecilomyces varioti)and their antifungal activity seemed to be more effective than the resistance to bacterial growth.In vitro release studies showed an initial burst effect of CEO release and that subsequently slowed down at 40℃,but the initial burst release was not obvious at 4℃.The obtained results suggested that incorporation of CEO as a natural antimicrobial agent into gelatin film has potential for developing as active food packaging.

Design of a combined magnetic negative stiffness mechanism with high linearity in a wide working region

Combining magnetic negative stiffness mechanism(NSM) in parallel with positive stiffness has been considered to be an effective approach to realize the quasi-zero stiffness(QZS) characteristic,thus resolving the contradiction between high load capacity and(ultra-) low-frequency vibration isolation capability.However,the remarkable stiffness nonlinearity of common magnetic NSMs restricts the displacement region with reliable negative stiffness,resulting in considerable nonlinear behavior,poor vibration attenuation performance,and probable instability under large amplitude vibrations.A novel combined negative stiffness mechanism(CNSM) with attractive magnetic NSM(ANSM) and repulsive magnetic NSM(RNSM) in parallel is proposed in this paper.The stiffness nonlinearities of the ANSM and RNSM in the CNSM are counteracted through the parallel configuration such that the displacement region with reliable linear stiffness of the CNSM is widened by several times.An analytical model of the CNSM is established by the magnetic charge model and verified by simulation on ANSYS Maxwell.Parametric studies are then conducted to investigate the effects of design parameters on the stiffness characteristic,providing guidelines for the optimal design of the CNSM.Meanwhile,the stiffness and nonlinearity of the CNSM are compared with that of a single ANSM and RNSM.Static and dynamic experiments are finally conducted on the proposed test prototypes.Experimental results demonstrated the validity of the established model and the effectiveness of the CNSM in generating high linear stiffness within a wide displacement region and lowering the resonance frequency.Thus,the proposed CNSM can be applied in(ultra-) low-frequency vibration isolation under large amplitude excitations.

目的:探究钙镁钾盐对低钠盐薏米淀粉-肌原纤维蛋白复合凝胶特性的影响。方法:在前期研究基础上,分别以CaCl_(2)、MgCl_(2)和KCl替代NaCl,综合分析钙镁钾盐替代钠盐对薏米淀粉-肌原纤维蛋白复合凝胶的凝胶强度、持水力、流变特性、表面疏水性、巯基、凝胶微观结构及感官特性的变化。结果:CaCl_(2)替代组的质构和流变特性优于对照组,KCl替代组的持水力和白度值与3%NaCl对照组无显著差异,但MgCl_(2)和KCl的替代使凝胶强度下降。CaCl_(2)替代组和MgCl_(2)替代组的总巯基含量显著低于对照组,CaCl_(2)替代组的表面疏水性显著高于对照组、MgCl_(2)和KCl替代组。MgCl_(2)的加入促进氢键的形成,增强了疏水相互作用,CaCl_(2)的替代起到相反作用。此外,1.0%CaCl_(2)和0.5%MgCl_(2)的替代可达到与3%NaCl相似的咸味感知,但综合感官评分结果显示3种氯盐的替代对薏米淀粉-肌原纤维蛋白复合凝胶的感官特性没有显著差异。结论:钙镁钾盐对低钠盐薏米淀粉-肌原纤维蛋白复合凝胶特性起到不同程度的改善作用,本研究结果为开发低钠盐复合鱼糜凝胶制品提供理论基础。

Cobalt doping amount determines dominant reactive species in peroxymonosulfate activation via porous carbon catalysts co-doped by cobalt and nitrogen

Switching the reaction routes in peroxymonosulfate(PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes have attracted much attention but remain challenging.Herein,a series of Co-N/C catalysts with different compositions and structures were prepared by using bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks based on ZIF-8 and ZIF-67(x Zn/Co-ZIFs).Results show that Co doping amount could mediate the transformation of the activation pathway of PMS over CoN/C.When Co doping amount was less than 10%,the constructed x Co-N/C/PMS system(x≤10%)was singlet oxygen-dominated reaction;however further increasing Co doping amount would lead to the generation and coexistence of sulfate radicals and high-valent cobalt,besides singlet oxygen.Furthermore,the nitrogen-coordinated Co(Co-NX)sites could serve as main catalytically active sites to generate singlet oxygen.While excess Co doping amount caused the formation of Co nanoparticles from which leached Co ions were responsible for the generation of sulfate radicals and high-valent cobalt.Compared to undoped N/C,Co doping could significantly enhance the catalytic performance.The 0.5%Co-N/C could achieve the optimum degradation(0.488 min^(-1))and mineralization abilities(78.4%)of sulfamethoxazole among the investigated Co-N/C catalysts,which was superior to most of previously reported catalysts.In addition,the application prospects of the two systems in different environmental scenarios(pH,inorganic anions and natural organic matter)were assessed and showed different degradation behaviors.This study provides a strategy to regulate the reactive species in PMS-based advanced oxidation process.

The unfolded protein response(UPR)is a cellular stress response pathway activated when the endoplasmic reticulum,a crucial organelle for protein folding and modification,encounters an accumulation of unfolded or misfolded proteins.The UPR aims to restore endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis by enhancing protein folding capacity,reducing protein biosynthesis,and promoting protein degradation.It also plays a pivotal role in coordinating signaling cascades to determine cell fate and function in response to endoplasmic reticulum stress.Recent research has highlighted the significance of the UPR not only in maintaining endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis but also in influencing various physiological processes in the nervous system.Here,we provide an overview of recent findings that underscore the UPR’s involvement in preserving the function and viability of neuronal and myelinating cells under physiological conditions,and highlight the critical role of the UPR in brain development,memory storage,retinal cone development,myelination,and maintenance of myelin thickness.

LONP1 ameliorates liver injury and improves gluconeogenesis dysfunction in acute-on-chronic liver failure

Background:Acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF)is a severe liver disease with complex pathogenesis.Clinical hypoglycemia is common in patients with ACLF and often predicts a worse prognosis.Accumulating evidence suggests that glucose metabolic disturbance,especially gluconeogenesis dysfunction,plays a critical role in the disease progression of ACLF.Lon protease-1(LONP1)is a novel mediator of energy and glucose metabolism.However,whether gluconeogenesis is a potential mechanism through which LONP1 modulates ACLF remains unknown.Methods:In this study,we collected liver tissues from ACLF patients,established an ACLF mouse model with carbon tetrachloride(CCl 4),lipopolysaccharide(LPS),and D-galactose(D-gal),and constructed an in vitro hypoxia and hyperammonemia-triggered hepatocyte injury model.LONP1 overexpression and knockdown adenovirus were used to assess the protective effect of LONP1 on liver injury and gluconeogenesis regulation.Liver histopathology,biochemical index,mitochondrial morphology,cell viability and apoptosis,and the expression and activity of key gluconeogenic enzymes were detected to explore the underlying protective mechanisms of LONP1 in ACLF.Results:We found that LONP1 and the expressions of gluconeogenic enzymes were downregulated in clinical ACLF liver tissues.Furthermore,LONP1 overexpression remarkably attenuated liver injury,which was characterized by improved liver histopathological lesions and decreased serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT)and aspartate aminotransferase(AST)in ACLF mice.Moreover,mitochondrial morphology was improved upon overexpression of LONP1.Meanwhile,the expression and activity of the key gluconeogenic enzymes were restored by LONP1 overexpression.Similarly,the hepatoprotective effect was also observed in the hepatocyte injury model,as evidenced by improved cell viability,reduced cell apoptosis,and improved gluconeogenesis level and activity,while LONP1 knockdown worsened liver injury and gluconeogenesis disorders.Conclusion:We demonstrated that gluconeogenesis dysfunc

Ballistic performances of the hourglass lattice sandwich structures under high-velocity fragments

In this paper,the numerical simulation method is used to study the ballistic performances of hourglass lattice sandwich structures with the same mass under the vertical incidence of fragments.Attention is paid to elucidating the influences of rod cross-section dimensions,structure height,structure layer,and rod inclination angle on the deformation mode,ballistic performances,and ability to change the ballistic direction of fragments.The results show that the ballistic performances of hourglass lattice sandwich structures are mainly affected by their structural parameters.In this respect,structural parameters optimization of the hourglass lattice sandwich structures enable one to effectively improve their ballistic limit velocity and,consequently,ballistic performances.

Resilience-incorporated seismic risk assessment of precast concrete frames with“dry”connections

A resilience-incorporated risk assessment framework is proposed and demonstrated in this study to manifest the advantageous seismic resilience of precast concrete frame(PCF)structures with“dry”connections in terms of their low damage and rapid recovery.The framework integrates various uncertainties in the seismic hazard,fragility,capacity,demand,loss functions,and post-earthquake recovery.In this study,the PCF structures are distinguished from ordinary reinforced concrete frame(RCF)structures by characterizing multiple limit states for the PCF based on its unique damage mechanisms.Accordingly,probabilistic story-wise pushover analyses are performed to yield story-wise capacities for the predefined limit states.In the seismic resilience analysis,a step-wise recovery model is proposed to idealize the functionality recovery process,with separate considerations of the repair and non-repair events.The recovery model leverages the economic loss and downtime to delineate the stochastic post-earthquake recovery curves for the resilience loss estimation.As such,contingencies in the probabilistic post-earthquake repairs are incorporated and the empirical judgments on the recovery parameters are largely circumvented.The proposed framework is demonstrated through a comparative study between two“dry”connected PCFs and one RCF designed as alternative structural systems for a prototype building.The results from the risk quantification indicate that the PCFs show reduced loss hazards and lower expected losses relative to the RCF.Particularly,the PCF equipped with energy dissipation devices at the“dry”connections largely reduces the expected economic loss,downtime,and resilience loss by 29%,56%,and 60%,respectively,compared to the RCF.

Gene therapy for monogenic disorders: challenges, strategies, and perspectives

Monogenic disorders refer to a group of human diseases caused by mutations in single genes. While disease-modifying therapies have offered some relief from symptoms and delayed progression for some monogenic diseases, most of these diseases still lack effective treatments. In recent decades, gene therapy has emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy for genetic disorders. Researchers have developed various gene manipulation tools and gene delivery systems to treat monogenic diseases. Despite this progress, concerns about inefficient delivery, persistent expression, immunogenicity, toxicity, capacity limitation, genomic integration, and limited tissue specificity still need to be addressed. This review gives an overview of commonly used gene therapy and delivery tools, along with the challenges they face and potential strategies to counter them.
