High‑Defect‑Density Graphite for Superior‑Performance Aluminum‑Ion Batteries with Ultra‑Fast Charging and Stable Long Life

Rechargeable aluminum-ion batteries(AIBs)are a new generation of low-cost and large-scale electrical energy storage ***,AIBs suffer from a lack of reliable cathode materials with insufficient intercalation sites,poor ion-conducting channels,and poor diffusion dynamics of large chloroaluminate anions(AlCl4−and Al2Cl7−).To address these issues,surfacemodified graphitic carbon materials[i.e.,acidtreated expanded graphite(AEG)and base-etched graphite(BEG)]are developed as novel cathode materials for ultra-fast chargeable *** has more turbostratically ordered structure covered with abundant micro-to nano-sized pores on the surface structure and expanded interlayer distance(d002=0.3371 nm)realized by surface treatment of pristine graphite with acidic media,which can be accelerated the diffusion dynamics and efficient AlCl4−ions(de)-intercalation *** AIB system employing AEG exhibits a specific capacity of 88.6 mAh g^(−1)(4 A g^(−1))and~80 mAh g^(−1) at an ultra-high current rate of 10 A g^(−1)(~99.1%over 10,000 cycles).BEG treated with KOH solution possesses the turbostratically disordered structure with high density of defective sites and largely expanded d-spacing(d002=0.3384 nm)for attracting and uptaking more AlCl4−ions with relatively shorter penetration ***,the AIB system based on the BEG cathode delivers a high specific capacity of 110 mAh g^(−1)(4 A g^(−1))and~91 mAh g^(−1)(~99.9%over 10,000 cycles at 10 A g^(−1)).Moreover,the BEG cell has high energy and power densities of 247 Wh kg^(−1) and 44.5 kW kg^(−1).This performance is one of the best among the AIB graphitic carbon materials reported for chloroaluminate anions storage *** finding provides great significance for the further development of rechargeable AIBs with high energy,high power density,and exceptionally long life.

Nanotechnologies have been successfully applied to the treatment of various ***-derived exosome-like nanoparticles (PENs) are expected to become effective therapeutic modalities for treating disease or in drug-delivery. PENs are minimally cytotoxic to healthy tissues, with which they show excellent biocompatibility, and are biased towards tumors by targeting specific tissues through special endocytosis mechanisms. Thus, the use of these PENs may expand the scope of drug therapies while reducing the off-target *** this review, we summarize the fundamental features and bioactivities of PENs extracted from the grape, grapefruit, ginger, lemon, and broccoli and discuss the applications of these particles as therapeutics and nanocarriers.

Effect of Korean Magnolia obovata Extract on Platelet-Derived Growth Factor-Induced Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells

Objective:To investigate the effects of Korean Magnolia obovata crude extract(KME)on plateletderived growth factor(PDGF)-BB-induced proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMCs).Methods:KME composition was analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC).VSMCs were isolated from the aorta of a Sprague-Dawley rat,incubated in serum free-Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium in the presence or absence of KME(10,30,100,and 300(xg/mL),then further treated with PDGF-BB(10 ng/mL).VSMC proliferation was detected using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay and VSMC migration was determined using the Boyden chamber and scratch wound healing *** blot analysis was used to detect phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated protein kinases 1 and 2(p-ERK1/2),protein kinase B(p-Akt),and stress-activated protein kinase/c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase(p-SAPK/JNK).The antimigration and proliferation effects of KME were tested using aortic sprout ***:The HPLC analysis identified honokiol(0.45 mg/g)and magnolol(0.34 mg/g)as the major components of ***(30,100,and 300μg/m L)significantly decreased the proliferation and migration of PDGF-BB-stimulated(10 ng/mL)VSMCs and the PDGF-BB-induced phosphorylation of EKR1/2,Akt,and SAPK/JNK(P<0.05).Furthermore,PDGF-BBinduced VSMCs treated with 300μg/m L of KME showed reduction in aortic sprout ***:KME could inhibit abnormal proliferation and migration of VSMCs by down-regulating the phosphorylation of EKR1/2 and ***,KME might be a functional food for preventing vascular disorders.

Selective ischemic-hemisphere targeting Ginkgolide B liposomes with improved solubility and therapeutic efficacy for cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury

Despite exciting achievements with some malignancies,immunotherapy for hypoimmunogenic cancers,especially glioblastoma(GBM),remains a formidable clinical *** immunogenicity and deficient immune infiltrates are two major limitations to an effective cancer-specific immune ***,we propose that an injectable signal-amplifying nanocomposite/hydrogel system consisting of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor and imiquimod-loaded antigen-capturing nanoparticles can simultaneously amplify the chemotactic signal of antigen-presenting cells and the"danger"signal of *** demonstrated the feasibility of this strategy in two scenarios of *** the first scenario,we showed that this simultaneous amplification system,in conjunction with local chemotherapy,enhanced both the immunogenicity and immune infiltrates in a recurrent GBM model;thus,ultimately making a cold GBM hot and suppressing postoperative *** by excellent efficacy,we further exploited this signal-amplifying system to improve the efficiency of vaccine lysate in the treatment of refractory multiple GBM,a disease with limited clinical treatment *** general,this biomaterial-based immune signal amplification system represents a unique approach to restore GBM-specific immunity and may provide a beneficial preliminary treatment for other clinically refractorymalignancies.

To overcome the intrinsic inefficiency of the von Neumann architecture,neuromorphic devices that perform analog vector–matrix multiplication have been highlighted for achieving power-and time-efficient data *** particular,artificial synapses,of which conductance should be programmed to represent the synaptic weights of the artificial neural network,have been intensively researched to realize neuromorphic ***,inspired by excitatory and inhibitory synapses,we develop an artificial optoelectronic synapse that shows both potentiation and depression characteristics triggered only by optical *** design of the artificial optoelectronic synapse,in which excitatory and inhibitory synaptic phototransistors are serially connected,enables these characteristics by spatiotemporally irradiating the phototransistor channels with optical ***,a negative synaptic weight can be realized without the need for electronic components such as *** such attributes,the artificial optoelectronic synapse is demonstrated to classify three digits with a high recognition rate(98.3%)and perform image preprocessing via analog vector-matrix multiplication.

Human Rights and Social Stigma Review for Leprosy Patients in Korea

Leprosy is a chronic disease caused by a low multiplying bacillus, Mycobacterium leprae, which primarily affects the skin and the extremities. Multidrug therapy (MDT) and Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccinations are effective at treatment of the disease, but social misconceptions about the disease inhibit efficient health care for affected individuals. In South Korea, leprosy patients face social, economic, and political discrimination. Korean leprosy patients are isolated into Sorokdo island and face challenges such as difficulty receiving education and limited job opportunities. Leprosy cognitively, emotionally, and socially impacts patients’ lives, and represents a serious social inequality issue. To raise awareness, dispel myths about the disease, and to end patient discrimination that destroys families, we conducted case studies based on scientific journals. The paper specifically focuses on difficulties faced by Korean leprosy patients, and subsequent initiatives by the government to aid patients. To reach the WHO’s target of health and wellbeing for all by 2030, we need to educate the masses about leprosy and address relevant social inequality issues.
