Developing efficient energy storage for sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)by creating high-performance heterojunctions and understanding their interfacial interaction at the atomic/molecular level holds promise but is also challenging.Besides,sluggish reaction kinetics at low temperatures restrict the operation of SIBs in cold climates.Herein,cross-linking nanoarchitectonics of WS_(2)/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) heterojunction,featuring built-in electric field(BIEF),have been developed,employing as a model to reveal the positive effect of heterojunction design and BIEF for modifying the reaction kinetics and electrochemical activity.Particularly,the theoretical analysis manifests the discrepancy in work functions leads to the electronic flow from the electron-rich Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) to layered WS_(2),spontaneously forming the BIEF and“ion reservoir”at the heterogeneous interface.Besides,the generation of cross-linking pathways further promotes the transportation of electrons/ions,which guarantees rapid diffusion kinetics and excellent structure coupling.Consequently,superior sodium storage performance is obtained for the WS_(2)/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) heterojunction,with only 0.2%decay per cycle at 5.0 A g^(-1)(25℃)up to 1000 cycles and a high capacity of 293.5 mA h g^(-1)(0.1A g^(-1)after 100 cycles)even at-20℃.Importantly,the spontaneously formed BIEF,accompanied by“ion reservoir”,in heterojunction provides deep understandings of the correlation between structure fabricated and performance obtained.

Error-based adaptive optimal tracking control of nonlinear discrete-time systems

In this paper,for the output tracking problem of nonlinear discrete-time systems,a performance index is newly defined using the adaptive dynamic programming(ADP) technique to completely eliminate tracking errors in theory.In contrast to traditional definitions of performance indices in other ADP-based methods,the proposed performance index is not only designed from the perspective of output tracking errors but also introduced errors of system states and control inputs at adjacent stages,which is suitable for practical situations in many industrial applications,such as the alumina production,the flotation process,and the mineral grinding process.We proved that the obtained controller can make the system output fully track the given reference trajectory by applying the iterative criteria of the ADP technique.In addition,the proposed algorithm was implemented using a data-driven technique and neural networks to avoid analyzing and deducing the complicated dynamics of actual industrial processes.Finally,using historical data for a forced-circulation evaporation system in the alumina production process,the effect of the proposed approach was verified through a numerical simulation and compared with that of the proportional-integral controller.

Derivative Spectroscopy and its Application at Detecting the Weak Emission/Absorption lines

The development of spectroscopic survey telescopes like Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope(LAMOST),Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment and Sloan Digital Sky Survey has opened up unprecedented opportunities for stellar classification.Specific types of stars,such as early-type emission-line stars and those with stellar winds,can be distinguished by the profiles of their spectral lines.In this paper,we introduce a method based on derivative spectroscopy(DS)designed to detect signals within complex backgrounds and provide a preliminary estimation of curve profiles.This method exhibits a unique advantage in identifying weak signals and unusual spectral line profiles when compared to other popular line detection methods.We validated our approach using synthesis spectra,demonstrating that DS can detect emission signals three times fainter than Gaussian fitting.Furthermore,we applied our method to 579,680 co-added spectra from LAMOST Medium-Resolution Spectroscopic Survey,identifying 16,629 spectra with emission peaks around the Hαline from 10,963 stars.These spectra were classified into three distinct morphological groups,resulting in nine subclasses as follows.(1)Emission peak above the pseudo-continuum line(single peak,double peaks,emission peak situated within an absorption line,P Cygni profile,Inverse P Cygni profile);(2)Emission peak below the pseudo-continuum line(sharp emission peak,double absorption peaks,emission peak shifted to one side of the absorption line);(3)Emission peak between the pseudo-continuum line.

Enhanced Electrical Properties of Styrene-grafted Polypropylene Insulation for Bulk Power Transmission HVDC Cables

Polypropylene(PP)is considered to be a rather promising material for HVDC cable insulation.Grafting modification has proved to be an effective method on the electrical property improvements of PP.This paper reports on the highlyenhanced electrical properties of styrene-grafted polypropylene(PP-g-St)and their related mechanism.The influence of grafting styrene on crystallization structures,thermal properties and electrical properties of PP-g-St are characterized and analyzed.These results show that PP-g-St exhibits remarkably enhanced DC volume resistivity,suppressed space charge accumulation and improved DC breakdown strengths as compared to PP.Crystallization observation shows PP-g-St has small,imperfect spherulites with indistinct boundaries,which is strongly correlated to enhanced electrical properties.This study provides an effective grafting strategy to design high-performance HVDC cable insulation materials for bulk power transmission systems.

The slow reaction kinetics,combined with the relatively large radius of K-ion,makes it challenging to develop acceptable electrode materials for reversible insertion/deinsertion of potassium ions,thus reducing the cycle stability and reversible capacity of aqueous potassium-ion batteries(PIBs)[1].Given this,there is still a long way to go in developing high-performance electrode materials for PIBs with a stable cycle life and high energy density.According to a literature study on PIB electrode materials,the electrochemical performance of cathode materials can be easily achieved through various structural modifications[2–4].Nevertheless,the study of cathode material optimization and operating mechanisms is insufficient,hindering the energy density of PIBs from reaching a satisfactory level.In this context,the performance of cathode material becomes the decisive factor for the performance of PIBs.

Remote heteroepitaxy of transition metal dichalcogenides through monolayer hexagonal boron nitride

As a very promising epitaxy technology,the remote epitaxy has attracted extensive attention in recent years,in which graphene is the most used interlayer material.As an isomorphic of graphene,two-dimensional(2D)hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN),is another promising interlayer for the remote epitaxy.However,there is a current debate on the feasibility of using h-BN as interlayer in the remote epitaxy.Herein,we demonstrate that the potential field of sapphire can completely penetrate monolayer h-BN,and hence the remote epitaxy of ZrS_(2) layers can be realized on sapphire substrates through monolayer h-BN.The field of sapphire can only partially penetrate the bilayer h-BN and result in the mixing of remote epitaxy and van der Waals(vdWs)epitaxy.Due to the weak interfacial scattering and high crystalline quality of ZrS_(2) epilayer,the ZrS_(2) photodetector with monolayer h-BN shows the best performance,with an on/off ratio of more than 2×10^(5) and a responsivity up to 379 mA·W^(-1).This work provides an efficient approach to prepare single-crystal transition metal dichalcogenides and their heterojunctions with h-BN,which have great potential in developing large-area 2D electronic devices.

Photon counting technique as a potential tool in micro-defect detection of epoxy insulation pull rod in gas-insulated switchgears

The micro-defects in epoxy-based insulation materials generate a local high electric field which results in continuous degradation,seriously endangering the insulation system of gas-insulated switchgears.A highly sensitive detection technique is reported for micro-defects of insulation pull rods based on the photon counting(PC)technique.The re-sults demonstrated that for an epoxy-based insulation pull rod,the photons released during electroluminescence and ionisation at 2 kV,which is less than the partial discharge inception voltage,can be clearly detected.The findings presented a strong correlation between photon counts and defect severity.Discourse has been conducted to elucidate the mechanism behind defect-induced PC,employing the amplification of ionising luminescence through electric field distortion induced by micro defects and the augmentation of electroluminescence through the aggregation of trap charge.In this regard,the authors verified that PC can serve as a potential tool in the detection of micro-insulation defects,which also has huge potential in online insulation condition monitoring.

Imaginary filtered hindsight experience replay for UAV tracking dynamic targets in large-scale unknown environments

As an advanced combat weapon,Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)have been widely used in military wars.In this paper,we formulated the Autonomous Navigation Control(ANC)problem of UAVs as a Markov Decision Process(MDP)and proposed a novel Deep Reinforcement Learning(DRL)method to allow UAVs to perform dynamic target tracking tasks in large-scale unknown environments.To solve the problem of limited training experience,the proposed Imaginary Filtered Hindsight Experience Replay(IFHER)generates successful episodes by reasonably imagining the target trajectory in the failed episode to augment the experiences.The welldesigned goal,episode,and quality filtering strategies ensure that only high-quality augmented experiences can be stored,while the sampling filtering strategy of IFHER ensures that these stored augmented experiences can be fully learned according to their high priorities.By training in a complex environment constructed based on the parameters of a real UAV,the proposed IFHER algorithm improves the convergence speed by 28.99%and the convergence result by 11.57%compared to the state-of-the-art Twin Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient(TD3)algorithm.The testing experiments carried out in environments with different complexities demonstrate the strong robustness and generalization ability of the IFHER agent.Moreover,the flight trajectory of the IFHER agent shows the superiority of the learned policy and the practical application value of the algorithm.

Inclusion of forestry offsets in emission trading schemes:insights from global experts

Emissions trading schemes(ETSs)have been a central component of international climate change policies,as a carbon pricing tool to achieve emissions reduction targets.Forest carbon offset credits have been leveraged in many ETSs to efficiently meet emission reduction targets,yet there is little knowledge about the perceptions,experiences,and challenges associated with the forest carbon offsetting in existing and pilot ETS.Given that the future inclusion of forest carbon offset in ETS management activities and policies will require strong support and acceptability among the institutions and experts involved in ETS,this study explores the experiences and lessons learned with 16 globally engaging experts representing major existing ETSs(North America,Europe,and New Zealand)and Chinese pilot ETSs towards the inclusion of forestry offsets,major concerns and challenges with existing implementation models.Findings revealed that many respondents particularly from North America,New Zealand,and Chinese pilot systems portrayed positive attitudes toward the inclusion of forestry carbon offsets and its role in contributing to a viable ETS,while European experts were not supportive.Respondents cited leakage,permanence,additionality,and monitoring design features as the major challenges and concerns that inhibit the expansion and inclusion of forest carbon offsetting.Respondents from Chinese pilot schemes referenced a unique set of challenges related to implementation,including the increasing cost of afforestation and reforestation projects,the uncertainty in the future supply and demand for their national Certified Emissions Reduction(CER)scheme and landowner engagement.Existing and future ETSs should learn from and address the challenges experienced by global experts and carbon pricing mechanisms to design,evaluate,or enhance their forest carbon offset programs for an effective and viable system that successfully contributes to GHG mitigation practices globally.We recommend inclusion of forest carbon offsets at the early stage

Graphite Anode for Potassium Ion Batteries: Current Status and Perspective

With the increased demand from the storage of renewable energy sources,some safe and inexpensive energy storage technologies instead of li-ion batteries become urgently needed.Therefore,K-ion batteries(KIBs)have attracted much attention and evolved significant development because of the low price,safety,and similar property compared with li-ion batteries.Due to the high reversibility,stability,and low potential plateau,graphite becomes a current research focus and is regarded as one of the most promising KIB’s anode materials.In this review,we mainly discuss the electrochemical reaction mechanism of graphite during potassiation-depotassiation process and analyze the effects of electrode/electrolyte interface on graphite for Kion storage.Besides,we summarize several kinds of methods to improve the performance of graphite for KIBs,including the design of graphite structure,selection of appropriate binder,solvent chemistry,and salt chemistry.Meanwhile,a concept of“relative energy density”is raised,which can be more accurate to evaluate the genuine electrochemical performance of graphite anode involving the specific capacity and potential.In addition,we also summarize the considerable challenges to current graphite anode in KIBs and we believe our work will offer alterative solutions to further explore high-performance graphite anode of K-ion storage.
