The study aims to formulate a solution for identifying the safest route between any two inputted Geographical locations.Using the New York City dataset,which provides us with location tagged crime statistics;we are implementing different clustering algorithms and analysed the results comparatively to discover the best-suited one.The results unveil the fact that the K-Means algorithm best suits for our needs and delivered the best results.Moreover,a comparative analysis has been performed among various clustering techniques to obtain best results.we compared all the achieved results and using the conclusions we have developed a user-friendly application to provide safe route to users.The successful implementation would hopefully aid us to curb the ever-increasing crime rates;as it aims to provide the user with a beforehand knowledge of the route they are about to take.A warning that the path is marked high on danger index would convey the basic hint for the user to decide which path to prefer.Thus,addressing a social problem which needs to be eradicated from our modern era.

Predictors of Co-Occurring Substance Use among Asian Americans in Residential Treatment Programs

Although severe and chronic mental disorders are common among Asian Americans in residential treatment programs, little has been known about the prevalence and predictors of co-occurring substance use in this population. The purpose of this study was to examine predictors of co-occurring substance use among Asian Americans with mental disorders in residential treatment programs. This cross-sectional study included 375 clinical records of Asian Americans from residential treatment programs between 2007 and 2011. Demographic variables, principal psychiatric diagnoses, and data on alcohol, stimulant, and marijuana use were obtained from the clinical records. Separate binary logistic regression analyses were used to examine the demographic and diagnostic contributions to the risk of each type of substance use. Findings of this study indicated that the prevalence of co-occurring substance use was about 53% in Asian Americans with mental disorders. Binary logistic regression analyses revealed that male gender, older age, and depressive disorder predicted more alcohol use, but homelessness and schizophrenia predicted less alcohol use. Male gender, homelessness, and smoking predicted more stimulant use. Male gender and younger age predicted more marijuana use. Based on the findings of this study, awareness about co-occurring substance use problems of ethnic minority psychiatric clients should be increased and appropriate substance use prevention and treatment programs should be developed and provided for high-risk groups.

Melatonin combined with exercise cannot alleviate cerebral injury in a rat model of focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury

Previous studies have demonstrated that melatonin combined with exercise can alleviate secondary damage after spinal cord injury in rats. Therefore, it is hypothesized that melatonin combined with exercise can also alleviate ischemic brain damage. In this study, adult rats were subjected to right middle cerebral artery occlusion after receiving 10 mg/kg melatonin or vehicle subcutaneously twice daily for 14 days. Forced exercise using an animal treadmill was performed at 20 m/min for 30 minutes per day for 6 days prior to middle cerebral artery occlusion. After middle cerebral artery occlusion, each rat received melatonin combined with exercise, melatonin or exercise alone equally for 7 days until sacrifice. Interestingly, rats receiving melatonin combined with exercise exhibited more severe neurological deficits than those receiving melatonin or exercise alone. Hypoxia-inducible factor la mRNA in the brain tissue was upregulated in rats receiving melatonin combined with exercise. Similarly, microtubule associated protein-2 mRNA expression was significantly upregulated in rats receiving melatonin alone. Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan 4 （NG2） mRNA expression was significantly decreased in rats receiving melatonin combined with exercise as well as in rats receiving exercise alone. Furthermore, neural cell loss in the primary motor cortex was significantly reduced in rats receiving melatonin or exercise alone, but the change was not observed in rats receiving melatonin combined with exercise. These findings suggest that excessive intervention with melatonin, exercise or their combination may lead to negative effects on ischemia/reperfusion-induced brain damage.

Transcriptome sequencing assisted discovery and computational analysis of novel SNPs associated with flowering in Raphanus sativus in-bred lines for marker-assisted backcross breeding

The sequencing of radish genome aids in the better understanding and tailoring of traits associated with economic importance.In order to accelerate the genomics assisted breeding and genetic selection,transcriptomes of 33 radish inbred lines with diverse traits were sequenced for the development of single nucleotide polymorphic(SNP)markers.The sequence reads ranged from 2,560,543,741 bp to 20,039,688,139 bp with the GC(%)of 47.80–49.34 and phred quality score(Q30)of 96.47–97.54%.A total of 4951 polymorphic SNPs were identified among the accessions after stringent filtering and 298 SNPs with efficient marker assisted backcross breeding(MAB)markers were generated from the polymorphic SNPs.Further,functional annotations of SNPs revealed the effects and importance of the SNPs identified in the flowering process.The SNPs were predominantly associated with the four major flowering related transcription factors such as MYB,MADS box(AG),AP2/EREB,and bHLH.In addition,SNPs in the vital flowering integrator gene(FT)and floral repressors(EMBRYONIC FLOWER 1,2,and FRIGIDA)were identified among the radish inbred lines.Further,50 SNPs were randomly selected from 298 SNPs and validated using Kompetitive Allele Specific PCR genotyping system(KASP)in 102 radish inbred lines.The homozygosity of the inbred lines varied from 56 to 96%and the phylogenetic analysis resulted in the clustering of inbred lines into three subgroups.Taken together,the SNP markers identified in the present study can be utilized for the discrimination,seed purity test,and adjusting parental combinations for breeding in radish.

ACUPUNCTURE STIMULATION IMPROVES MEMORY IMPAIRMENT INDUCED BY SCOPOLAMINE IN RATS

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine whether acupuncture stimulation at the Baihui(GV20) improves memory defects caused by administration of scopolamine(SCO) to the rats.The effects of acupuncture stimulation at the GV20 on the cholinergic system as well as the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) and cAMP-response element-binding protein(CREB) in the hippocampus were also investigated.Methods: Male rats were administered with SCO(2 mg/kg, i.p.) once daily for 14 days.Acupuncture stimulation at GV20 was performed for 5 min before SCO injection.Results: Acupuncture stimulation at GV20 improved memory impairment as measured by the passive avoidance test(PAT) and reduced the escape latency for finding the platform in the Morris water maze(MWM) test.Acupuncture stimulation at the GV20 significantly alleviated memory-associated decreases in the expression levels of choline acetyltransferase(ChAT), BDNF and CREB proteins in the hippocampus.Additionally, acupuncture stimulation at the GV20 significantly restored the expression of choline transporter 1(CHT1), vesicular acetylcholine transporter(VAChT), BDNF and CREB mRNAs in the hippocampus.Conclusion: These results demonstrated that acupuncture stimulation at the GV20 has significant neuroprotective effects against neuronal impairment and memory dysfunction caused by SCO in rats.Thus, these findings suggested that acupuncture stimulation at the GV20 might be a useful therapy in various neurodegenerative diseases for the improvement of cognitive functioning via stimulating cholinergic enzyme activities and regulating BDNF and CREB expression in the brain.

＜正＞ The purpose of the study is to observe the neuroprotective components of herbs which have been used to treat stroke in traditional Korean medicine. For global cerebral ischemia,male wister rats weighing 180 ± 10 g were used and common carotid arteries and vertebral arteries were occluded for 10 min. For focal cerebral ischemia,male SD rats weighing 300 ± 10 g were used and the right middle cerebral artery were occluded for 2 hrs. As the results,decursin （10 mg/kg） showed 36.46% , gomisin A. （30 mg/kg） showed 41.18% of neurorprotection in global cerebral ischemia. Nodakenin （30 mg/kg）. wogonin （30 mg/kg） showed 61. 33% and 42.67% of neuroprotection effect compared with control,respectively. Gomisin A showed the highest effect as 64.67 % of neuroprotection in focal cerebral ischemia. In conclusion,it could be suggested that gomisin A in Schizandra chinensis. decursin and nodakenin in Angelica gigas. wogonin and baicalein in Scutellaria baicalensis are effective components for the treatment of stroke.
