Genetically predicted waist circumference and risk of atrial fibrillation

Introduction:Observational studies have revealed an association between waist circumference(WC)and atrial fibrillation(AF).However,it is difficult to infer a causal relationship from observational studies because the observed associations could be confounded by unknown risk factors.Therefore,the causal role of WC in AF is unclear.This study was designed to investigate the causal association between WC and AF using a two-sample Mendelian randomization(MR)analysis.Methods:In our two-sample MR analysis,the genetic variation used as an instrumental variable for MR was acquired from a genome-wide association study(GWAS)of WC(42 single nucleotide polymorphisms with a genetic significance of P<5×10^(-8)).The data of WC(from the Genetic Investigation of ANthropometric Traits consortium,containing 232,101 participants)and the data of AF(from the European Bioinformatics Institute database,containing 55,114 AF cases and 482,295 controls)were used to assess the causal role of WC on AF.Three different approaches(inverse variance weighted[IVW],MR-Egger,and weighted median regression)were used to ensure that our results more reliable.Results:All three MR analyses provided evidence of a positive causal association between high WC and AF.High WC was suggested to increase the risk of AF based on the IVW method(odds ratio[OR]=1.43,95%confidence interval[CI],1.30-1.58,P=2.51×10^(-13)).The results of MR-Egger and weighted median regression exhibited similar trends(MR-Egger OR=1.40[95%CI,1.08-1.81],P=1.61×10^(-2);weighted median OR=1.39[95%CI,1.21-1.61],P=1.62×10^(-6)).MR-Egger intercepts and funnel plots showed no directional pleiotropic effects between high WC and AF.Conclusions:Our findings suggest that greater WC is associated with an increased risk of AF.Taking measures to reduce WC may help prevent the occurrence of AF.

Artificial optical microfingerprints for advanced anticounterfeiting

Artificial optical microfingerprints,known as physically unclonable functions(PUFs)offer a groundbreaking approach for anti-counterfeiting.However,these PUFs artificial optical microfingerprints suffer from a limited number of challenge-response pairs,making them vulnerable to machine learning(ML)attacks when additional error-correcting units are introduced.This study presents a pioneering demonstration of artificial optical microfingerprints that combine the advantages of PUFs,a large encoding capacity algorithm,and reliable deep learning authentication against ML attacks.Our approach utilizes the triple-mode PUFs,incorporating bright-field,multicolor fluorescence wrinkles,and the topography of surface enhanced Raman scattering in the mechanical and optical layers.Notably,the quaternary encoding of these PUFs artificial microfingerprints allows for an encoding capacity of 6.43×10^(24082) and achieves 100%deep learning recognition accuracy.Furthermore,the PUFs artificial optical microfingerprints exhibit high resilience against ML attacks,facilitated by generative adversarial networks(GAN)(with mean prediction accuracy of~85.0%).The results of this study highlight the potential of utilizing up to three PUFs in conjunction with a GAN training system,paving the way for achieving encoded information that remains resilient to ML attacks.

Harvesting bio-kinetic energy using a triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG) is one of the promising routes to solve the sustainable energy supply problem for wearable electronics. However, additional materials, complex fabricating processes or specific mechanical structures are needed for existing TENGs to harvest bio-kinetic energy. Besides, they need to be tightly attached to the human body, which may result in detachment and malfunction under tense human motion. Herein, an intrinsic epidermal electrode-based TENG(E-TENG) is proposed to harvest human walking energy. The wearing shoes and ground are used as tribo-materials, and the human epidermis is used as the back electrode of the E-TENG. Compared with the traditional TENGs,the E-TENG does not need any additional tribo-materials and complex mechanical structures. Under optimal conditions, the voltage output of E-TENG can reach 914 V. E-TENG has been used as a self-powered warning sensor and pedometer sensor for demonstration. Furthermore, E-TENG based self-powered wireless sensor system has been developed using a newly designed micro energy electronic switch(MEES). Ambient ultraviolet intensity, temperature and humidity information can be monitored and then transmitted to mobile phone every 3.5 min, demonstrating great potential for widespread wearable applications.

An economic analysis of twenty light olefin production pathways

A comprehensive economic analysis of twenty light olefin production pathways has been performed,covering current and promising processes from fossil(petroleum,coal and natural gas)and renewable resources(biomass and CO_(2)).Taking steam cracking of naphtha as the benchmark,this study gives an economic perspective and points out the bottleneck in different olefin production pathways.The assessment indicates that nearly all renewable pathways are economically unattractive currently and the raw material cost accounts for dominant contribution in most pathways,especially in the oil-,natural gas-and CO_(2)-derived pathways.For the ways of methanol-to-olefins and methanol-to-propylene,fossil pathways are cost-competitive according to the date of current Chinese market prices.However,the price of feedstock hydrogen needs to be lowered by 55%to fill the cost gap between CO_(2)-derived pathways and the benchmark.For the ways of oxidative coupling of methane and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis to olefins,fossil pathways enable cost-competitive processes by feedstock price fall,but further process improvement is required to approach benchmark in renewable pathways.Conditionally,a decrease in ethanol price by45%can make ethanol dehydration pathway profitable.In addition,costs can reduce by 4%-23%in different pathways as the production scales expand from 100 to 1000 kt/a,resulting in a change from high cost to economic profit for some of the pathways.The results quantify the need for improvements on feedstock price,scale size and process improvement to achieve competitive production costs.

Anionic polymerization initiated by lithium amides for preparing high molecular weight polyacrylonitrile

Lithium amides have been proved to be effective anionic initiators for the anionic polymerization of acrylonitrile to get high molecular weight polyacrylonitrile in this study. Polyacrylonitrile with weightaverage molecular weight ranging from 1.02 × 10~6 g/mol to 1.23 ×10~6 g/mol (M_w/M_n= 1.9-2.2) could be prepared utilizing lithium amides derived from diisopropylamine, diethylamine, hexamethyldisilazane,dicyclohexylamine, and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine as initiators. The polymerization of acrylonitrile proceeded in a homogeneous manner in N,N-di methyl for mamide and insignificant contribution of side reactions was confirmed.

激光能量场表面热处理是提升金属零件表面性能、延长其使用寿命的重要技术手段之一。近30年来,国内外对该技术展开了大量研究。相较于传统的表面热处理技术,激光能量场表面热处理具有更加高效、精准和清洁的优势。本文首先探讨了激光能量场表面热处理技术的优劣以及模拟过程中温度、流体和相场的多物理场方程,接着综述了激光表面淬火、激光重熔、激光表面合金化、激光熔覆和激光冲击喷丸等5种典型激光能量场表面热处理技术的研究现状,然后根据工程应用需求对改善零件表面耐磨性、耐蚀性和残余应力的研究结果进行了总结,最后展望了激光能量场表面热处理未来潜在的研究方向。

城市污水管道是甲烷等温室气体的重要潜在来源,影响因素繁多。目前,不同水质条件对管道甲烷产排特性、底物的转化规律和微生物作用机制仍有待进一步解析。通过静态模拟试验探究了污水管道系统中不同污水浓度下(100~700 mg COD/L)挥发性脂肪酸(VFAs)含量及甲烷排放特征。结果表明:管道系统中污水COD浓度越高,VFAs和甲烷产量越高。与低浓度污水(100 mg COD/L)相比,高浓度污水管道系统中(500,700 mg COD/L)VFAs产量增长了2.4,4.1倍,甲烷排放量增加了8.1,21.0倍。机理分析发现,管道系统内高浓度污水有利于水解、酸化和产甲烷等厌氧微生物的富集,并导致与胞外水解(如dacC)、胞内代谢(如yhdR)、脂肪酸生成(如pta)和甲烷生成(ftr、fwd)等相关的功能基因表达的上调,进而提升微生物产甲烷代谢活性。偏最小二乘路径模型(PLS-PM)分析表明:功能微生物群落(λ=0.721)和相关代谢基因的表达(λ=0.640)是影响污水管道甲烷产排的主要因素,而污水COD浓度为次要因子(λ=0.623)。

黑龙江省的农业生产每年产生大量需要进行综合利用的秸秆。但传统的秸秆收集工作方式限制了综合利用工作,目前亟需建立一个新型秸秆收集体系。黑龙江省的秸秆工作面对着农民农业土地分散、规模小,秸秆离田的数量和价格不稳定,生产企业难以得到稳定的秸秆供应,部分耕地的秸秆无法收集,无法离田的根茬被露天焚烧,高附加值的秸秆产业较少等问题。文章在分析问题成因后,认为需要构建一个以政府统筹组织、国有企业和民营企业合作,以低成本运营,在完成秸秆收集的同时完成耕地整理工作的科学、高效的新型秸秆收集体系。新型收集体系可以提高秸秆收集率,降低工作成本,促进秸秆的高效综合利用,最终推进黑龙江省生态文明建设以及农业现代化建设工作。
