Theoretical insight into methanol steam reforming on indium oxide with different coordination environments

Indium oxide(In_2O_3) has demonstrated to be an effective non-noble metal catalyst for methanol steam reforming reaction(MSR).However, the reaction mechanism of MSR and crucial structure-activity relations determining the catalytic performance of In_2O_3 are still not fully understood yet. Using density functional theory(DFT) calculation, we systematically investigate the MSR process over a high-index In_2O_3(211) and a favoured catalytic cycle of MSR is determined. The results show that In_2O_3(211) possesses excellent dehydrogenation and oxidizing ability, on which CH_3 OH can readily adsorb on the In4 c site and be easily activated by the reactive lattice oxygens, resulting in a total oxidation into CO_2 rather than CO, while the H_2 formation through surface H–H coupling limits the overall MSR activity because of the strong H adsorption on the two-coordinated lattice O(O_(2c)). Our analyses show that the relatively inert three-coordinated lattice O(O_(3c)) could play an important catalytic role. To uncover the influence of the local coordination of surface In atoms and lattice O on the catalytic activity, we evaluate the activity trend of several types of In_2O_3 surfaces including(211),(111), and(100) by examining the rate-limiting, which reveals the following activity order:(211)>(111)>(100). These findings provide an in-depth understanding on the MSR reaction mechanism over In_2O_3 catalysts and some basic structure-activity relations at the atomic scale, could facilitate the rational design of In_2O_3-based catalysts for MSR by controlling the local coordination environment of surface active sites.

Novel satellite transport protocol with on-board spoofing proxy

As a result of the exponential growing rate of worldwide Internet usage, satellite systems are required to support broadband Internet applications. The transmission control protocol （TCP） which is widely used in the Internet, performs very well on wired networks. However, in the case of satellite channels, clue to the delay and transmission errors, TCP performance degrades significantly and bandwidth of satellite links can not be fully utilized. To improve the TCP performance, a new idea of placing a TCP spoofing proxy in the satellite is considered. A Novel Satellite Transport Protocol （NSTP） which takes advantage of the special properties of the satellite channel is also proposed. By using simulation, as compared with traditional TCPs, the on-board spoofing proxy integrated with the special transport protocol can significantly enhance throughput performance on the high BER satellite link, the time needed to transfer files and the bandwidth used in reverse path are sharply reduced.

Cortical Organoid-on-a-Chip with Physiological Hypoxia for Investigating Tanshinone IIA-Induced Neural Differentiation

Cortical organoids represent cutting-edge models for mimic human brain development during the early and even middle stage of pregnancy, while they often fail to recreate the complex microenvironmental factors, such as physiological hypoxia. Herein, to recapitulate fetal brain development, we propose a novel cortical organoid-on-a-chip with physiological hypoxia and further explore the effects of tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA) in neural differentiation. The microfluidic chip was designed with a micropillar array for the controlled and efficient generation of cortical organoids. With low oxygen, the generated cortical organoids could recapitulate key aspects of early-gestational human brain development. Compared to organoids in normoxic culturing condition, the promoted neurogenesis, synaptogenesis and neuronal maturation were observed in the present microsystem, suggesting the significance of physiological hypoxia in cortical development. Based on this model, we have found that Chinese herbal drug Tan IIA could promote neural differentiation and maturation, indicating its potential therapeutic effects on neurodevelopmental disorders as well as congenital neuropsychiatric diseases. These results indicate that the proposed biomimetic cortical organoid-on-a-chip model with physiological hypoxia can offer a promising platform to simulate prenatal environment, explore brain development, and screen natural neuroactive components.

Relevance Vector Machine(RVM)is a supervised learning algorithm extended from Support Vector Machine based on the Bayesian sparsity *** Vector Machine classification suffers from theoretical limitations and computational inefficiency mainly because there is no closed-form solution for the posterior of the weight *** propose two advanced Bayesian approaches for RVM classification,namely the Enhanced RVM and the Reinforced RVM,to perfect the theoretic framework of RVM and extend the algorithm to the imbalanced data problem,which has an arresting skew in data size between ***,the Enhanced RVM conducts a strict Bayesian sampling process instead of the approximation method in the original one to remedy its theoretic limitations,especially the nonconvergence of the ***,we conjecture that the hierarchical prior makes the Reinforced RVM achieve consistent estimations of the quantities of interest compared with the non-consistent estimations of the original *** is necessary for RVM classification since it makes the model more stable and localises the relevant vectors more accurately in the imbalanced data *** two-level prior also renders the Reinforced one competitive in the imbalanced data problem by building the inner connection of parameter dimensions and alloting a more vital relevance to the small class data weight *** theoretic proofs and several numeric studies demonstrate the merits of our two proposed algorithms.

Harmony Search Algorithm Based on Dual-Memory Dynamic Search and Its Application on Data Clustering

Harmony Search(HS)algorithm is highly effective in solving a wide range of real-world engineering optimization ***,it still has the problems such as being prone to local optima,low optimization accuracy,and low search *** address the limitations of the HS algorithm,a novel approach called the Dual-Memory Dynamic Search Harmony Search(DMDS-HS)algorithm is *** main innovations of this algorithm are as follows:Firstly,a dual-memory structure is introduced to rank and hierarchically organize the harmonies in the harmony memory,creating an effective and selectable trust region to reduce approach blind ***,the trust region is dynamically adjusted to improve the convergence of the algorithm while maintaining its global search ***,to boost the algorithm’s convergence speed,a phased dynamic convergence domain concept is introduced to strategically devise a global random search ***,the algorithm constructs an adaptive parameter adjustment strategy to adjust the usage probability of the algorithm’s search strategies,which aim to rationalize the abilities of exploration and exploitation of the *** results tested on the Computational Experiment Competition on 2017(CEC2017)test function set show that DMDS-HS outperforms the other nine HS algorithms and the other four state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of diversity,freedom from local optima,and solution *** addition,applying DMDS-HS to data clustering problems,the results show that it exhibits clustering performance that exceeds the other seven classical clustering algorithms,which verifies the effectiveness and reliability of DMDS-HS in solving complex data clustering problems.

Decellularized scaffolds have an irreplaceable role in the development of tissue *** in this field are concentrated on shaping macro-scale constructs and maintaining blood ***,we establish a whole liver perfused decellularized scaffold cultured with hepatocytes for transplantable bioengineered liver *** to retained intact gross morphology of liver,geometric structure and biomechanical environment can support whole liver lobe ***,unremoved extracellular matrix(ECM)and vascular net-works can delivery continuous nutrient for cell *** on recellularized bioengineering liver scaffold,we have demonstrated its excellent hepatic functions when it orthotopic implanted in acute liver failure(ALF)rats,along with the prolonged survival rate and improved biochemical *** outstanding properties indicate that the orthotopic implantable liver scaffold has broad clinical application prospects in the treatment of ALF and other regeneration diseases.
