Traumatic or iatrogenic metallic foreign body retained in the heart is not a rare entity. Infective endocarditis associated with a retained nonmetallic foreign body is exceptionally rare. This report describes what we believe is the case of a special nonmetallic foreign body （a bamboo stick） retained in the heart, complicated by delayed Serratia marcescens endocarditis in a boy who had previously unrecognized injury of his heart.

The SEBAL （surface energy balance algorithm for land） model provides an efficient tool for estimating the spatial distribution of evapotranspiration, and performs a simple adjustment procedure to calculate sensible heat flux using the wind speed data set from only one weather station. This paper proposes a simplified method to modify the traditional SEBAL model for calculating the 24-hour evapotranspiration （ ETduly ） in the Haihe Basin with data from 34 weather stations. We interpolated the wind speeds using the inverse distance weighting method to establish a wind field and then used it to calculate the friction velocity directly. This process also simplifies the iterative computation process of sensible heat flux. To validate the feasibility of this simplified method, we compared the results with those obtained with an appropriate but more complex method proposed by Tasumi, which separates a vast area into several sub-areas based on the weather conditions, and runs the SEBAL model separately in each sub-area. The results show good agreement between the evapotranspiration generated by the two methods, with a coefficient of determination （r2） of 0.966, which indicates the feasibility of estimating evapotranspiration over a large region with the simplified method.

Background Rapid reexpansion of collapsed lungs leads to reexpansion pulmonary edema （RPE）. We aimed to investigate the effect of melatonin in the prevention of RPE formation. Methods We used a Wistar rat model in which the left lung was collapsed by ligating the left bronchus for 48 hours and then reexpanded and ventilated for an additional 2 hours. Thirty minutes before reexpansion, we injected melatonin （10 mg/kg） or vehicle intraperitoneally. We compared the wet/dry ratio, oxygenation index, myeloperoxidase （MPO） activity, nitric oxide （NO）, malondialdehyde （MDA） and interleukin 8 （IL-8） levels in the reexpanded lungs between untreated and treated animals. Results We found that the wet/dry ratio of the melatonin group was significantly lower than that of the vehicle group, and the oxygenation index was higher in the melatonin group. Compared with the control, melatonin pretreatment significantly decreased the activities of IL-8, NO, MDA levels and MPO in lung tissues. Histopathology of reexpanded lungs showed that the melatonin pretreatment group had less pulmonary edema and less inflammatory cell infiltration. Conclusion Melatonin decreases pulmonary edema and improves oxygenation after reexpansion by attenuating oxidative stress and inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Background： Excess mucus production is an important pathophysiological feature of chronic inflammatory airway diseases. Effective therapies are currently lacking. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects ofcurcumin （CUR） on lipopolysaccharide （LPS）-induced mucus secretion and inflammation, and explored the underlying mechanism in vivo and in vitro. Methods： For the in vitro study, human bronchial epithelial （NCI-H292） cells were pretreated with CUR or vehicle for 30 min, and then exposed to LPS for 24 h. Next, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 （Nrf2） was knocked down with Nrf2 small interfering RNA （siRNA） to confirm the specific role of Nrf2 in mucin regulation of CUR in NCI-H292 cells. In vivo, C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned to three groups （n = 7 for each group）： control group, LPS group, and LPS ＋ CUR group. Mice in LPS and LPS ＋ CUR group were injected with saline or CUR （50 mg/kg） intraperitoneally 2 h before intratracheal instillation with LPS （ 100 μg/ml） for 7 days. Cell lysate and lung tissue were obtained to measured Mucin 5AC （MUC5AC） and Nrf2 mRNA and protein expression by a real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid （BALF） was collected to enumerate total cells and neutrophils. HistopathologicaI changes of the lung were observed. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance. Student＇s t-test was used when two groups were compared. Results： CUR significantly decreased the expression ofMUC5AC mRNA and protein in NCI-H292 cells exposed to LPS. This effect was dose dependent （2.424 ± 0.318 vs. 7.169 ± 1.785, t = 4.534, and 1.060 ± 0.197 vs. 2.340 ± 0.209, t = 7.716; both P 〈 0.05, respectively） and accompanied by increased mRNA and protein expression of Nrf2 （1.952 ± 0.340 vs. 1.142 ± 0.176, t = -3.661, and 2.010 ± 0.209 vs. 1.089 ±0. 132, t = -6.453; both P 〈 0.05, respectively）. The chain dynamics heterogeneity of the poly(vinyl butyral)(PVB) plasticized by triethylene glycol bis(2-ethylhexa noate)(TEG-EH) was investigated by various solid-state NMR *** plasticized PVB shows two domains in distinct molecular dynamics differences,namely,rigid and soft domains,where the latter is the plasticizer-rich *** time domain low field NMR was first used to investigate the dynamics heterogeneity of the plasticized PVB,and the results show the decreasing activated energy of components in the soft domain of plasticized PVB(E_a=20.2 kJ/mol) as compared with that of the pristine one(E_a=24.3 kJ/mol).Detailed dynamics heterogeneity was obtained by high-field NMR with site-specific *** quadrupole-echo ~2H-NMR was adopted to elucidate the dynamics heterogeneity of the vinyl alcohol(VA) units,where only the hydroxyl group of VA is *** ~1H-^(13)C WISE NMR spectra show that there is not much difference in the mobility of the VB unit in PVB with and without plasticizer,whereas the glass transition temperature differed by approximately 53℃.This is further supported by Torchia's T_1 relaxation *** origin of such an unusual phenomenon is attributed to the critical role of the remaining VA(~22%) in the soft domain,where the VA units locally aggregate through hydrogen ***,the existence of a mobility gradient in the VB unit has been ***,the mobility difference for VB with different stereo-geometry(meso or racemic conformation) is observed for the first *** indicates the importance of modulating the ratio of meso over racemic VB for controlling the macroscopic perfo rmance of PVB.

In the railway system,fasteners have the functions of damping,maintaining the track distance,and adjusting the track ***,routine maintenance and inspection of fasteners are important to ensure the safe operation of track ***,assessment methods for fastener tightness include manual observation,acoustic wave detection,and image *** are limitations such as low accuracy and efficiency,easy interference and misjudgment,and a lack of accurate,stable,and fast detection *** at the small deformation characteristics and large elastic change of fasteners from full loosening to full tightening,this study proposes high-precision surface-structured light technology for fastener detection and fastener deformation feature extraction based on the center-line projection distance and a fastener tightness regression method based on neural ***,the method uses a 3D camera to obtain a fastener point cloud and then segments the elastic rod area based on the iterative closest point algorithm *** component analysis is used to calculate the normal vector of the segmented elastic rod surface and extract the point on the centerline of the elastic *** point is projected onto the upper surface of the bolt to calculate the projection ***,the mapping relationship between the projection distance sequence and fastener tightness is established,and the influence of each parameter on the fastener tightness prediction is ***,by setting up a fastener detection scene in the track experimental base,collecting data,and completing the algorithm verification,the results showed that the deviation between the fastener tightness regression value obtained after the algorithm processing and the actual measured value RMSE was 0.2196 mm,which significantly improved the effect compared with other tightness detection methods,and realized an effective fastener tightness regression.
