Chandra archival study of (U)LIRGs with a double nucleus:binary AGNs?

We present our initial results from a study of 14 （U）LIRGs with a doublenucleus （z 〈0.15） and an AGN signature in the Chandra *** goals of our study are to search for more possible cases of binary AGNs and to investigate the X-ray properties and energy sources of these energetic objects,a major effort devoted specifically to searching for binary AGNs from （U）*** studies suggest that Mrk 266 might be a new candidate in hosting binary AGNs supported by X-ray *** analysis shows that most （U）LIRGs are essentially weak X-ray sources and are not dominated by AGNs,due to both the lack of Fe K line detections and weak emission in the hard X-ray *** find evidence for thermal emission with temperature kT ～ 0.7keV in seven nuclear regions,and this component is possibly associated with the nuclear or circumnuclear *** soft and hard X-ray to far-infrared ratios also suggest that most （U）LIRGs are not energetically dominated by ***,this study only provides one additional candidate of binary *** cannot rule out the existence of low luminosity AGNs and thus binary AGNs in all of them,particularly,those highly obscured and spatially unresolved *** of 14 （U）LIRGs,including three previously known binary AGNs and a new candidate Mrk 266,clearly have obvious X-ray counterparts to their double optical/near-IR *** only two out of 14 have one obvious X-ray counterpart ***,Arp 220 and Mrk 273 are not spatially resolved owing to their small nuclear separations （～ 1″）,and no

The primary goal of pulsar timing array projects is to detect ultra-low-frequency gravitational waves. Pulsar data sets are affected by numerous noise processes including varying dispersive delays in the interstellar medium and from the solar wind. The solar wind can lead to rapidly changing variations that, with existing telescopes, can be hard to measure and then remove. In this paper we study the possibility of using a low frequency telescope to aid in such correction for the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array （PPTA） and also discuss whether the ultra-wide-bandwidth receiver for the FAST telescope is sufficient to model solar wind variations. Our key result is that a single wide-bandwidth receiver can be used to model and remove the effect of the solar wind. However, for pulsars that pass close to the Sun such as PSR J1022＋ 1022, the solar wind is so variable that observations at two telescopes separated by a day are insufficient to correct the solar wind effect.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality *** cells(DCs)are the key factors providing protective immunity against lung tumors and clinical trials have proven that DC function is reduced in lung cancer *** is evident that the immunoregulatory network may play a key role in the failure of the immune response to terminate *** tumors likely employ numerous strategies to suppress DC-based anti-tumor ***,we summarize the recent advances in our understanding on lung tumor-induced immunosuppression in DCs,which affects the initiation and development of T-cell *** also describe which existing measures to restore DC function may be useful for clinical treatment of lung *** our knowledge of how lung cancer cells alter DC function to generate a tumor-supportive environment will be essential in order to guide the design of new immunotherapy strategies for clinical use.

In a three-dimensional spacetime with ~egative cosmological constant, general relativity can be written as two copies of SO（2,1） Chern-Simons theory. On a manifold with a boundary, the Chern-Simons theory induces a conformal field theory——Wess-Zumino-Witten theory on the boundary. In this paper, it is shown that with suitable boundary conditions for a Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli black hole, the Wess-Zumino-Witten theory can reduce to a chiral massless scalar field on the horizon.

A novel algorithm was designed and implemented to realize the numerical calculation of the solvent reorganization energy for electron transfer reactions, on the basis of nonequilibrium solvation theory and the dielectric polarizable continuum model. Applying the procedure to the well-investigated intramoleeular electron transfer in biphenyl-androstane-naphthyl and biphenyl-androstane-phenanthryl systems, the numerical results of solvent reorganization energy were determined to be around 60 k J/mol, in good agreement with experimental data. Koopman＇s theorem was adopted for the calculation of the electron transfer coupling element, associated with the linear reaction coordinate approximation. The values for this quantity obtained are acceptable when compared with experimental results.

We study the formation of quantum droplets in the mixture of a single-component bose–Einstein condensate(BEC),and a two-species Fermi superfluid across a wide Feshbach *** repulsive boson-boson and attractive boson-fermion interactions,we show that quantum droplets can be stabilized by attractive fermionfermion interactions on the Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer(BCS)side of the resonance,and can also exist in the deep BEC regime under weak boson-fermion *** map out the phase diagram for stable droplets with respect to the boson-boson and boson-fermion interactions,and discuss the role of different types of quantum fluctuations in the relevant regions of the BCS-BEC *** work reveals the impact of fermion pairing on the formation of quantum droplets in bose–Fermi mixtures,and provides a useful guide for future experiments.

Impact of chronic kidney disease on serum tumor markers concentrations

Background Serum tumor markers have always been of clinical importance in the diagnosis, monitoring disease progression and therapy efficacy for patients with malignant diseases. However, elevated serum tumor markers are found in some benign conditions, especially in chronic kidney disease （CKD）. The elevation of them in CKD might cause confusion and misuse of these tumor markers. We conducted this retrospective study to investigate which of the five widely used tumor markers including carcinoembryonic antigen （CEA）, alpha-fetoprotein （AFP）, cytokeratin 19 fragment antigen 21-1 （Cyfra21-1）, squamous cell carcinoma antigen （SCC） and neuron specific enolase （NSE） are affected markedly by CKD, in order to use them more effectively. Methods Serum tumor marker concentrations, biochemical, hematological parameters, and urinalysis were measured in CKD patients and healthy controls. The positive rate and median tumor markers＇ level in CKD patients and controls, and those in CKD patients stratified by CKD grade were compared using nonparametric rank tests. Correlation analysis of serum tumor markers and other parameters in CKD patients were performed using the Spearman correlation coefficient. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used to estimate the important variables that caused elevated serum concentrations of these markers in CKD patients. Results The overall positive rates and serum concentrations of Cyfra21-1, SCC, CEA in CKD group were significantly higher than those in control group. Positive rate and serum concentrations of those tumor markers increased as kidney function decreased. both univariate analysis and multivariate regression analysis showed that the elevations of those tumor markers were not only associated with kidney function, but also with nutritional status. Conclusions Serum concentrations of Cyfra21-1, SCC, CEA are significantly influenced by kidney function, as well as nutritional status. Therefore, in clinical work, the indices of kidney
