mapping theme trends and knowledge structures for human neural stem cells:a quantitative and co-word biclustering analysis for the 2013-2018 period

Neural stem cells,which are capable of multi-potential differentiation and self-renewal,have recently been shown to have clinical potential for repairing central nervous system tissue ***,the theme trends and knowledge structures for human neural stem cells have not yet been studied *** this study,we retrieved 2742 articles from the PubMed database from 2013 to 2018 using "Neural Stem Cells" as the retrieval ***-word analysis was conducted to statistically quantify the characteristics and popular themes of human neural stem cell-related *** data matrices were generated with the Bibliographic Item Co-Occurrence matrix *** identified 78 high-frequency Medical Subject Heading(MeSH)terms.A visual matrix was built with the repeated bisection method in gCLUTO software.A social network analysis network was generated with Ucinet 6.0 software and GraphPad Prism 5 *** analyses demonstrated that in the 6-year period,hot topics were clustered into five *** suggested by the constructed strategic diagram,studies related to cytology and physiology were well-developed,whereas those related to neural stem cell applications,tissue engineering,metabolism and cell signaling,and neural stem cell pathology and virology remained *** stem cell therapy for stroke and Parkinson’s disease,the genetics of microRNAs and brain neoplasms,as well as neuroprotective agents,Zika virus,Notch receptor,neural crest and embryonic stem cells were identified as emerging hot *** undeveloped themes and popular topics are potential points of focus for new studies on human neural stem cells.

Dried Rehmannia root protects against glutamate-induced cytotoxity to PC12 cells through energy metabolism-related pathways

Rehmannia has been shown to be clinically effective in treating neurodegenerative diseases; however, the neuroprotective mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we established a model of neurodegenerative disease using PC12 cytotoxic injury induced by glutamate. The cells were treated with 20 mM glutamate in the absence or presence of water extracts of dried Rehmannia root of varying concentrations（70%, 50% and 30%）. The different concentrations of Rehmannia water extract significantly increased the activity of glutamate-injured cells, reduced the release of lactate dehydrogenase, inhibited apoptosis, increased the concentrations of NADH, NAD and ATP in cells, ameliorated mitochondrial membrane potential, and reduced the levels of light chain 3. Taken together, our findings demonstrate that Rehmannia water extracts exert a cytoprotective effect against glutamate-induced PC12 cell injury via energy metabolism-related pathways.

Intensive insulin therapy has been extensively used to control blood glucose levels because of its ability to reduce the risk of chronic complications of *** to current guidelines,intensive glycemic control requires individu-alized glucose goals rather than as low as *** intensive therapy,rapid blood glucose reduction can aggravate microvascular and macrovascular complications,and prolonged overuse of insulin can lead to treatment-induced neuropathy and retinopathy,hypoglycemia,obesity,lipodystrophy,and insulin antibody ***,we need to develop individualized hypoglycemic plans for patients with diabetes,including the time required for blood glucose normalization and the duration of intensive insulin therapy,which deserves further study.

Lightweight infrared stealth and absorption-dominant electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding materials are highly desirable in areas of aerospace,weapons,military and wearable ***,lightweight and high-efficiency dual-functional segregated nanocomposite foams with microcellular structures are developed for integrated infrared stealth and absorption-dominant EMI shielding via the efficient and scalable supercritical CO_(2)(SC-CO_(2))foaming combined with hydrogen bonding assembly and compression molding *** obtained lightweight segregated nanocomposite foams exhibit superior infrared stealth performances benefitting from the synergistic effect of highly effective thermal insulation and low infrared emissivity,and outstanding absorption-dominant EMI shielding performances attributed to the synchronous construction of microcellular structures and segregated ***,the segregated nanocomposite foams present a large radiation temperature reduction of 70.2℃ at the object temperature of 100℃,and a significantly improved EM wave absorptivity/reflectivity(A/R)ratio of 2.15 at an ultralow Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) content of 1.7 vol%.Moreover,the segregated nanocomposite foams exhibit outstanding working reliability and stability upon dynamic compression *** results demonstrate that the lightweight and high-efficiency dual-functional segregated nanocomposite foams have excellent potentials for infrared stealth and absorption-dominant EMI shielding applications in aerospace,weapons,military and wearable electronics.

Vaccination against Very Virulent Infectious Bursal Disease Virus Using Recombinant T4 Bacteriophage Displaying Viral Protein VP2

In order to develop a desirable inexpensive,effective and safe vaccine against the very virulentinfectious bursal disease virus （vvIBDV）,we tried to take advantage of the emerging T4 bacteriophagesurface protein display *** major immunogen protein VP2 from the vvlBDV strain HK46 wasfused to the nonessential T4 phage surface capsid protein,a small outer capsid （SOC） protein,resulting inthe 49 kDa SOC-VP2 fusion protein,which was verified by sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gelelectrophoresis and Western *** showed that the recombinant VP2 protein wassuccessfully displayed on the surface of the T4 *** recombinant VP2 protein is antigenic and showedreactivities to various monoclonal antibodies （mabs） against IBDV,whereas the wild-type phage T4 couldnot react to any *** addition,the recombinant VP2 protein is immunogenic and elicited specific antibodiesin immunized specific pathogen free （SPF） *** significantly,immunization of SPF chickenswith the recombinant T4-VP2 phage protected them from infection by the vvIBDV strain *** with the vvIBDV strain HK46 at a dose of 100 of 50% lethal dose (LD50) per chicken 4 weeksafter the booster was given,the group vaccinated with the T4-VP2 recombinant phage showed no clinicalsigns of disease or death,whereas the unvaccinated group and the group vaccinated with the wild-type T4phage exhibited 100% clinical signs of disease and bursal damages,and 30%—40% ***,the data herein showed that the T4-displayed VP2 protein might be an inexpensive,effective and safe vaccinecandidate against vvIBDV.

Recent advances in Pt catalysts and membrane electrode assemblies fabrication for proton exchange membrane fuel cells

Proton exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs) have been identified as a highly promising means of achieving sustainable energy conversion. A crucial factor in enhancing the performance of PEMFCs for further potential energy applications is the advancement in the field of catalyst engineering that has led to remarkable performance enhancement in facilitating the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR). Subsequently, it is important to acknowledge that the techniques used in preparation of membrane electrode assemblies(MEAs), the vital constituents of PEMFCs, also possess direct and critical influence on exhibiting the full catalytic activity of meticulously crafted catalysts. Here, a succinct summary of the most recent advancements in Pt catalysts for ORR was offered and their underly catalytic mechanism were discussed. Then, both laboratory-scale and industrial-scale MEA fabrication techniques of Pt catalysts were summarized. Furthermore, a detailed analysis of the connections between materials, process, and performance in MEA fabrication was presented in order to facilitate the development of optimal catalyst layers.

INTRODCTlONGallstone is one of the common primary diseases of bile system. Chinese researchers have done comprehensive and thorough studies on it, but there are still some problems we have not solved. It is necessary to review the achievements we have made in this field recently, to summarize the experiences and find the tendency so as to provide a sound foundation for the researches in the new century. Due to the popularization of molecular biological research methods, a rapid development of modern imaging techniques and medical equipment, the basic and clinical studies of cholelithiasis have set foot on the fast lane. Studies on the cause of cholelithiasis formation and its prevention have covered areas from epidemiological investigation at macroscopical level to molecular biological researches at microcosmic level. Clinical studies include prevention and treatment of cholelithiasis with traditional Chinese medicine, popularization of micro-injury surgery,treatment of complicated calculus of bile duct, and other aspects.

The Forecast Skills and Predictability Sources of marine Heatwaves in the NUIST-CFS1.0 Hindcasts

Using monthly observations and ensemble hindcasts of the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology Climate Forecast System(NUIST-CFS1.0) for the period 1983–2020, this study investigates the forecast skill of marine heatwaves(MHWs) over the globe and the predictability sources of the MHWs over the tropical oceans. The MHW forecasts are demonstrated to be skillful on seasonal-annual time scales, particularly in tropical oceans. The forecast skill of the MHWs over the tropical Pacific Ocean(TPO) remains high at lead times of 1–24 months, indicating a forecast better than random chance for up to two years. The forecast skill is subject to the spring predictability barrier of El Nino-Southern Oscillation(ENSO). The forecast skills for the MHWs over the tropical Indian Ocean(TIO), tropical Atlantic Ocean(TAO), and tropical Northwest Pacific(NWP) are lower than that in the TPO. A reliable forecast at lead times of up to two years is shown over the TIO, while a shorter reliable forecast window(less than 17 months) occurs for the TAO and ***, the forecast skills for the TIO, TAO, and NWP are seasonally dependent. Higher skills for the TIO and TAO appear in boreal spring, while a greater skill for the NWP emerges in late summer-early autumn. Further analyses suggest that ENSO serves as a critical source of predictability for MHWs over the TIO and TAO in spring and MHWs over the NWP in summer.

Interdecadal Variations of ENSO Impacts over the Indo-Northwest Pacific Region and the Related Mechanisms

Owing to limited observations,it remains unknown whether the impact of El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)on the Indian Ocean-Northwest Pacific(IO-NWP)climate showed decadal changes in the early 20th *** multi-source reanalysis and hindcast datasets from the ECMWF and NOAA extending back to 1901,this study investigates interdecadal variations of the impact of ENSO on the IO-NWP climate from 1901 to *** is found that the influence of ENSO on the IO-NWP climate shows“strong-weak-strong”interdecadal change during *** is characterized by much weaker Indian Ocean sea surface temperature(SST)warming and a weaker NWP subtropical anticyclone(NWPSA)in the following summer of El Ni?o during 1946-1967,compared with those in the other two periods(1901-1945 and 1968-2009).Analyses of the datasets indicate that the interdecadal variation is mainly associated with the change in ENSO *** contrast to the period of 1946-1967,a greater SST variance occurred in the central-eastern equatorial Pacific during 1901-1945 and 1968-2009.A stronger El Ni?o tends to generate more significant anticyclonic anomalies over the southeast Indian Ocean through *** northwesterly anomalies to the south of the anticyclone weaken the southeast trade winds and warm the south Indian Ocean SST via wind-evaporation-SST feedback,and the positive south Indian Ocean SST anomalies trigger westward-propagating oceanic Rossby waves to induce stronger warming of the southwest Indian Ocean,leading to a significant asymmetric wind pattern across the equator in *** profound northeastward winds on the north side weaken the southwest monsoon,leading to a“second warming”over the north Indian Ocean in summer,which anchors the eastward-propagating warm Kelvin waves and results in a stronger NWPSA by inducing surface divergence and suppressing deep convection.

SDCC: software-defined collective communication for distributed training

Communication is crucial to the performance of distributed training. Today's solutions tightly couple the control and data planes and lack flexibility, generality, and performance. In this study, we present SDCC, a software-defined collective communication framework for distributed training. SDCC is based on the principle of modern systems design to effectively decouple the control plane from the data *** abstracts the operations for collective communication in distributed training with dataflow operations and unifies computing and communication with a single dataflow graph. The abstraction, together with the unification, is powerful: it enables users to easily express new and existing collective communication algorithms and optimizations, simplifies the integration with different computing engines(e.g., Py Torch and Tensor Flow) and network transports(e.g., Linux TCP and kernel bypass), and allows the system to improve performance by exploiting parallelism exposed by the dataflow graph. We further demonstrate the benefits of SDCC in four use cases.
